Recently, there have been numerous reports of snake-related incidents, including a sudden and violent incident involving a snake gang. The reports have been circulating online, with many seemingly unrelated individuals posing a serious threat.

After hearing this, Vito turned off all the cameras around him. This sudden change made Carlo nervously draw his gun.

"Isn't this obvious? You have a mole in your family. This person knows quite a lot about Snake Gang."

Vito pointed out the problem.

Max had long suspected there was a mole within the family. He knew what Vito was worried about: that the mole was eavesdropping on their plans. He gestured for Carlo to put his gun away.

“I have a feeling there’s a mole within the Snake Gang, but I’m not sure who it is.”

Carlo was shocked. He knew everyone in the Snake Gang, and he couldn't imagine who would betray their brothers and sisters to the Night Wanderer.

"Then we need to catch this guy!"

"No, there's no time for spy games, Max. Let's work together. I have a plan."

Vito reached out his hand to Max.

After exchanging words and probing, Max realized that Vito was not the kind of half-baked mercenary, and he took Vito's hand.

"Tell me your plan, and I'll consider working with you."

Vito explained the first step of the plan.

"We need to go to Adcado to get some heavy firepower first. I have a small batch in my shop, but they are all custom-made and not cheap. If you want them, I can give you a discount."

"Getting back to the point, Jack and Carlo should go talk to Adcardo's people first. Just the two of you go, don't tell anyone. Go quickly, pack everything up, and come back the same day."

After Vito finished speaking, he looked at Max, who nodded to Carlo.

"Alright, you can go ahead."

After the two left, Vito continued.

“If Carlo has any problems, Jack will give him a bullet.”

Max nodded, but he was still willing to believe Carlo.

“That child is someone I raised; he wouldn’t betray his family in Snake Village.”

Vito nodded.

“Okay, the second step is that I see you have some old ammunition. I can make an electromagnetic bomb. I will take the electromagnetic bomb in and detonate it among the Night Wanderer robots. Then I will send you a signal, and your people can storm in.”

"Why not just use drones to drop the bombs first, and then you and my men go in together? Wouldn't that be safer?"

“You know there are companies colluding with the Bayonet Gang. I need to find information about their cooperation. Using an electromagnetic bomb would destroy the data, and I can’t take that risk.”

Max narrowed his eyes.

"So this is the task you received. Fine, but you're on your own. I won't send my men to their deaths if the electromagnetic bomb malfunctions or fails to detonate."

Vito laughed.

"While that's true, Max, why does your way of expressing it sound so unpleasant?"

Max also twitched the corner of his mouth.

"But one thing, how can you guarantee you'll find the Bayonet Gang's camp?"

Do you know what a hornet is?

"I know, but I've never seen it. This wasteland was wiped out a long time ago."

Vito patiently explained.

“At Dongda University, hornets are very dangerous. Like the bayonet gang, they set up their nests in hidden places and come out to hurt people from time to time.”

The people there devised a method: they used the carnivorous nature of hornets to lure them out of their nests, then tethered them with markers. After the hornets had eaten their fill, they would fly back to their nest, thus exposing the nest and wiping out the entire hornet population.

Max listened thoughtfully.

"Good, a good plan. Snake Gang is willing to cooperate with you. Although it's too early to say anything now, to avoid disputes later, we should discuss the distribution of the spoils."

Chapter 65 Who Does the Strong Wind Blow On?

"Hey, Carlo, is this a new friend?"

The people at the camp greeted Carlo, but Carlo seemed nervous. He looked everyone over and responded to the campers' enthusiasm with only nods.

Jack finally spoke after Carlo and Jack had finally managed to move out of the camp.

"Hey buddy, don't make it sound like we're going to do something sneaky without anyone even asking!"

Carlo got into the car, his hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his fingertips turned white.

"Uh, sorry."

Caro stepped on the gas, but the car didn't move. Caro then stepped on the gas a few more times.

Jack, who was in the passenger seat, couldn't stand it anymore, so he pressed the start button for Carlo.

Carlo forced a stiff smile.

Thank you.

Along the way, Carlo was in a daze, and he would occasionally veer off the road and crash into the cacti in the wasteland.

Jack broke out in a cold sweat. Good heavens, if this were in Night City, this kid Carol would definitely be mistaken for a cyber lunatic and then blown up by the terrorist squad along with his car.

"Hey, Carlo, what are you doing?"

Seeing Carlo veer off course and crash into a large rock once again, Jack couldn't help but shout a warning to Carlo, saying that if he crashed into it, the two of them would be in deep trouble.

The shout snapped Carlo out of his daze. He slammed on the brakes and then gently turned the steering wheel.

After Carlo did that, Jack refused to ride in Carlo's car no matter what.

He got out of the car, lit a cigarette, and checked the message Vito had sent him.

"If Carlo has any problems, give him a bullet."

Jack scratched his head. He now found Carlo strange, with a face like a nun's.

To avoid killing the wrong person, Jack handed Carlo a cigarette, who was staring blankly in the driver's seat.

"Dude, why aren't you focused on the task at hand? At this rate, we'll be done for before we even reach Camp Adcado."

Carlo initially accepted the cigarette as if it were a wooden doll, only realizing what was happening after hearing Adcardo's name.

"Damn it, we need to ask Adcardo's men for the location of their camp to find it!"

Jack was utterly speechless. This kid usually seemed quite reliable, so how come he's completely lost his composure now and can't even do the most basic things right?

He patted Carlo on the back.

"It's okay, it's not too late to ask now. Why don't you get out and wait a bit, and I'll drive?"

Carlo took a deep breath in the driver's seat, then slapped himself a few times, muttering something under his breath.

This startled behavior nearly made Jack draw his golden shrew and shoot Carlo.

Caro got out of the car, looking at Jack with the disdainful gaze one might give someone a fool.

"Sorry, friend, I'm just thinking about a lot of things. Please drive, I'm going to call Adcardo's people."

Carlo seems to have returned to his usual self.

Jack threw the half-burnt cigarette onto the wasteland and got into the driver's seat.

"Okay, I've uploaded the coordinates to the car. Just follow the holographic navigation."

Carlo quickly contacted Mitch of Adcado, whose leader, Saul, had already spoken to Max on the phone.

Halfway through the journey, Carlo suddenly asked Jack a question.

"Jack, how do you mercenaries deal with traitors?"

Jack thought for a moment, then replied.

"I haven't been a mercenary for long, and our squad hasn't had any traitors, but I heard back when I was in the gang that a mole was put into an oil drum and burned alive."

Carlo swallowed and asked awkwardly.

"You've been involved in gangs before?"

“I grew up in Heywood, where a lot of the kids were involved in gangs, like the Valentino gang. I quit, then met Vito and started doing gigs.”

"So you haven't known Vito for many years?"

"Not long, but how should I put it, I feel like Vito has known me for quite a while, and he's very much to my liking. The first time we drank together, we became sworn brothers and formed a small team, and the next day we went to do our first job together."

Carlo thought that Vito, such a ruthless character, had been in the business for many years, and he seemed very interested, so he continued to ask.

"I thought you two were old friends, and you got along like you'd known each other for a long time."

“Vito’s approach to making friends is just like his trademark: precise and efficient.”

"Isn't this your team's label?"

Jack smiled.

"Our team's reputation was built by Vito; I didn't contribute much."

Carlo tentatively asked.

"Do you think Vito will betray you one day?"

Upon hearing this question, Jack frowned, thinking to himself, "What kind of bullshit question is this?"

“Vito won’t betray me, and I don’t have anything worth selling.”

After asking the question, Carlo returned to silence.

Jack glanced at Carlo; he now estimated that Carlo most likely knew who the mole was.

The roads in the wilderness are in very bad condition, and even a car with a good suspension system will inevitably experience bumps when two people are driving.

When they arrived at the Adcado camp, Jack felt his back stiffen considerably.

"Hey Carlo, long time no see. You don't look too good."

"Hey Mitch, long time no see. This is Jack, a friend of the family. Is our shipment ready?"

Mitch came up and greeted Carlo.

"Everything is ready, we can set off at any time. But, is it just the two of you? I've heard that there have been ghosts causing trouble at night lately, and things aren't peaceful anywhere."

“You have to help me transport this shipment with armed escort. Max will give you extra money. Our family recently lost a group of people and can't come to collect this shipment.”

Mitch hesitated for a moment after listening, and then spoke.

"Max didn't seem to tell Thor. I'll go ask Thor."

Just then, a hooded man carried a case of beer to the side of the car and handed two bottles to Carlo and Jack.

"So rushed this time? Can't you even sit down at the camp for a bit?"

Carlo used his prosthetic arm to open the bottle cap, poured most of it into his mouth, and let out a burp.

"This is urgent. The Bayonet Gang is like mad dogs, relentlessly attacking the Snake Gang. But let's not talk about that. Scorpion, why are you dressed like this in this heat? Aren't you afraid of getting heat rash?"

The scorpion accepted the joke.

"That's still cooler than your friend wearing a leather jacket."

"To be honest, I feel the wasteland isn't as hot as Night City. My name is Jack, and what's yours, friend?"

"They all call me Scorpion, you can call me that too."

"What kind of nickname is that?"

"That was my code name in the army."

The three were drinking beer and chatting when a girl with her hair in a bun walked past them carrying a sniper rifle.

"Hey, Scorpion. Hey, Carol, what brings you to the camp?"

"I'm here to pick up a batch of goods."

"OK, I have something to do today. Let's drink together again next time. Remember to invite Sami too."
