Helping the Defenders solve crime in New York, defeating Osborn's bio-engineered monsters, joining the Avengers to handle global crises, and sometimes even venturing into the multiverse to deal with Spider-Verse events.
Oh, and most importantly, to prevent all the misfortunes from happening.
The key point is that Peter Parker always chose to become Spider-Man, not the spider that chose him.
