Chapter 65 Twin Elves
He carefully read the book about the theory of guardian spirit spells, and after he had a good understanding of it, he began to try reciting the spell.
"Protect the Gods!"
He tried hard to recall happy memories, and waved his magic wand in response.
Silver mist spewed from the tip of the wand, but it remained just a cloud of silver mist, unable to take shape, and quickly dissipated due to distraction.
Dui was not disappointed and chanted the incantation again.
This time, the silver mist that was spewed out increased, converging into a large, dazzling silver light, like a cocoon of light, as if something was being nurtured inside.
But perhaps because Dui didn't have enough happy memories, the physical guardian deity's image has yet to materialize.
Dui withdrew the spell and stopped to rethink.
He thought he had thought of all the happy memories he could think of, but the guardian spirit had not yet materialized, which puzzled him.
Does the Guardian Charm require something other than happy memories?
"Guardian Spell, protect..." Dui's eyes lit up.
The Guardian Spell contains the word "guardian," so in addition to having happy memories, one must also have a firm will to protect when casting the spell.
The book only mentioned that one needs to recall happy memories when casting a spell, which caused him to overlook this simple issue.
Having found a solution, Dui did not hesitate and cast the Guardian Spell again.
"Protect the Gods!"
Many happy memories kept flashing through his mind, some from his past life and some from this one.
Then he thought about what he, Bilbo, and Gandalf were about to face, and a strong desire welled up in his heart for himself and those he cared about to live.
Silver mist gushed forth from the wand, growing ever thicker and thicker, enveloping Dui in a white haze.
Finally, the silver mist condensed into a large, silvery-white bird, flapping its wings and circling around Dui, releasing positive energy and making people feel hope and joy in its presence.
"This is... an owl?"
Dui looked at his guardian spirit with some surprise.
With its large eyes and distinctive ear-shaped feathers, it perfectly resembles an owl.
As soon as Dui reached out, the owl guardian flew down and landed on Dui's arm. It was so light that it nuzzled his face affectionately, appearing very lively and agile.
"What exquisite magic!" a voice came from behind Dui.
Dui turned around and saw two young elves approaching.
They were handsome and looked exactly alike, with the same jet-black hair. Apart from their headbands, one was gold and the other was silver, it was almost impossible to tell them apart.
The two elves looked at the silvery-white, translucent owl in Dui's hand with admiration and amazement.
"Guests from afar, we are the sons of Elrond."
The elf wearing a golden headband spoke.
"I am Elohir."
"This is my brother, Elladan."
Elladan, wearing a silver headband, nodded politely and elegantly to him.
These are Elrond's twins? The only pair of twin brothers among the elves?
Dui was surprised to see them so soon and nodded in greeting.
"Greetings to you both. I am the wizard Duir, from Windcloud Peak."
"I have long heard of your great name, Black-robed Wizard Duir," Elohir said with a smile. "Your deeds have spread throughout the wasteland. You are the tree cutter of Huon, the nemesis of the ancient tomb ghouls, the troll killer, the enemy of the Orks, and you even made the once-destroyed Tower of Amonsur reappear on the summit of Windcloud in one night."
"Such great achievements have even been heard of among us elves."
"This rumor is too exaggerated," Dui said with a wry smile.
"No need for such modesty, Wizard Duir." Elohir said disapprovingly, his blue eyes seeing through everything. "I can sense that your achievements are genuine, and that is something to be praised."
Is he truly worthy of being called the son of Elrond? His insight is so sharp.
Elladan, standing to the side, was interested in the wand in Dui's hand.
"Wizard Duir, the staff you hold is unlike any other wizard I've ever seen. Could you satisfy my curiosity?"
"This is a wand, different from the wands that Gandalf and the others have."
Dui explained, and looking at the two of them, he felt a surge of curiosity.
I wonder if the elf can use his wand.
As far as he knew, although elves were a magical race, their magic was more manifested in the creation of magical items such as the Silmarillion, the Three Rings of the Elves, and the forging of elven swords like the Sword of the Enemy, the Beastbite Sword, and Bilbo's Dagger.
Only high elves like Elrond and Galadriel, who have accumulated great power and a profound understanding of magic over many years, can unleash powerful magic.
Most elves cannot cast spells directly like wizards, and instead choose to fight using weapons such as swords and bows.
Or rather, the magic of elves is more manifested in their superior physical abilities, as well as their deeper understanding of the world and nature, and their insight into the essence of all things.
So Dui, out of curiosity, handed the wand to Elladan and taught him the simplest spell.
"Fluorescent lights!"
Elladan waved his wand and whispered a spell.
Under the watchful eyes of the three, a cluster of white light faintly emerged from the tip of the wand.
The faint light, though seemingly insignificant, instantly widened the eyes of the three people.
"I did it!" Elladan said excitedly.
As young elves, Elradan and his companions had limited experience and a shallow understanding of the world and nature, so they were naturally unable to possess the same powerful ability as their father, Elrond, to summon floods.
Successfully casting a spell for the first time was an extraordinary experience for him.
Elohir then tried it with his wand and successfully made the tip of the wand light up.
"What a wonderful experience!"
"Unfortunately, this wand seems to resist us, making it difficult to cast spells."
Elohir reluctantly returned the wand to Dui, saying...
Dui was no less surprised than the two; he hadn't expected that the two elves would actually succeed in casting a spell with his wand.
This means that if they had the corresponding wands, these elves would all have the ability to cast spells.
They might even transform from warriors into mages.
With this in mind, Dui instantly conjured up an image in his mind: on the battlefield, the elves waved their wands in unison, chanting spells such as "Expel your weapons" and "Petrify them all," routing the opposing orc army.
Dui quickly shook his head, knowing he couldn't think about it anymore.
This art style is really strange; it doesn't fit the elements of Central Continent at all.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
On another terrace in the distance,
Elrond and Gandalf also watched the whole thing.
"How are you feeling, Lord Elrond?" Gandalf asked with a chuckle. "Has my companion surprised you?"
"That's truly a wonderful surprise!" Elrond took a breath, gazing admiringly at the figure in the distance.
"It seems I need to have a formal conversation with this young wizard."
