Chapter 66 Making a wand for the elves

Duir was invited by Elrond's secretary, Lindir, to Elrond's palace along with Elrohir and Elradan.

Gandalf was also in the palace.

"Father," the two elf brothers bowed to Elrond.

Seeing his twins, Elrond nodded, his eyes filled with affection.

He and his wife Celebrian had two sons and a daughter. His wife was ambushed and kidnapped by orcs at Redhorn Pass in the Misty Mountains on her way to visit her parents in Lothlórien, and suffered physical and mental torture.

The twins ventured deep into the orcish lair of the Misty Mountains and rescued their mother, Celebrian.

But her spirit and soul were severely wounded, and she could only cross the sea and sail west to Valinor, the land of the immortals, hoping to heal her wounds.

The youngest daughter, Alwen, was cared for by her parents-in-law, Celeborn and Galadriel, and lived in Los Lorrain for a long time.

So only the twins stayed by his side and lived with him.

"Lord Elrond, what are your orders?" Dui asked with a puzzled look after exchanging greetings.

"Wizard Duir, may I take a look at your wand?"

Hearing this request, Dui was a little puzzled and turned his eyes to Gandalf beside him.

Gandalf smiled and nodded.

Seeing this, Dui did not hesitate and handed over the wand.

Elrond took the wand and examined it closely, his surprise growing stronger.

"What a brilliant invention! Using magical wood and magical substances, a simple combination that produces special magical effects."

"If I'm not mistaken, the staff's shaft originated from the willow tree of Hu'on? As for the staff's core..."

"The core of the staff is made from a strand of hair from the River Daughter Goldenberry and a beard from Tom Bombadil," Dui explained.

Elrond suddenly realized, and with great interest, he grasped his wand and gracefully swung it.

A gust of wind blew the waterfall outside the palace, condensing it into a tall water horse that rushed into the palace and galloped wildly, bringing a refreshing breeze. Then it rushed out of the palace again, leaped high into the air, and plunged headfirst into the valley below.

"Very good!" Elrond commented with satisfaction. "Although your wand does not greatly amplify its power, it is an excellent tool for channeling magic. Even underage elves can use your wand to cast impressive magical effects."

He returned the wand to Dui.

"Wizard Duir, would you be willing to make wands for us?"

"Of course, as a condition of the deal, we promise to give you a satisfactory return."

"This..." Dui hesitated upon hearing this, glancing at Gandalf, who remained silent and unresponsive.

"Lord Elrond, I would be very happy to make wands for elves. However, making wands is time-consuming, and I am currently on an expedition with my companions, so I am afraid I will not have the time to make wands."

This wasn't Duy making excuses; after all, he hadn't even fulfilled his promise to Gandalf about the wand yet.

Gandalf's staff shaft was already carved, but the remaining core was nowhere to be found. He had previously tried to make a wand from the nerves of trolls in the Troll Forest, but the result was completely unsuitable for Gandalf, so he had to abandon the idea.

Upon hearing Dui's reply, Elrond waved his hand.

"Time has no effect on us. We can wait for you to finish this expedition, for years, decades, or even centuries."

Dui was surprised to hear this. He had forgotten that these elves were immortal. He quickly waved his hand and said, "It doesn't have to take that long. After this mission is over, I can promise to make a wand for the Valley."

"However, the wand-making process is complicated. I wonder how many wands I need to make? If it's too many, I'm afraid I won't be able to help."

Hearing Dui's agreement, Elrond smiled.

"Don't feel embarrassed, Wizard Duir. All you need to do is make wands for my two sons."

Dui breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

"That's fine."

"However, you will need to prepare the magical wood and magical materials for making wands yourselves. I will only be responsible for making the wands."

Elrond readily agreed, then countered with a question:

"Wizard Duir, you have helped us. What do you need?"

Before Duy could answer, Gandalf winked at him, coughed, and spoke first: "Lord Elrond, Duyle desires a staff, but the magic gem for it is still missing. Do you have any information about the magic gem?"

Dui opened his mouth, not expecting Gandalf to ask for such an exorbitant sum on his behalf.

He instantly felt the dough heat up, and worried that Elrond might think it was his idea.

Magic gems are incredibly precious; even if he made a thousand wands for the Valley, they probably wouldn't be worth as much as the magic gems themselves. And now he's only making two wands for the elves.

However, to Dui's relief, Ellund did not feel that the deal was unfair, nor was he angry.

Instead, he shook his head.

"Unfortunately, the Valley doesn't have a tradition of collecting gems, so the magic gems you're looking for aren't here."

"However, I recall that Lady Galadriel of Los Lothlorion possesses several precious gems. I will contact Lady Galadriel and convey your request to her, but I cannot guarantee whether she will grant it."

His gaze then turned to Gandalf, who was standing to the side.

"However, with Gandalf added to the mix, given your relationship with Lady Galadriel, there should be a considerable chance of obtaining the Magic Gem."

Gandalf nodded upon hearing this, indicating his willingness to contribute.

After discussing the wand, Elrond turned the conversation to the dwarves.

Although Thorin and the dwarves tried to conceal the purpose of their expedition, they could not escape the eyes of Elrond, who had witnessed countless years.

Gandalf had no intention of hiding the map from Elrond, so he sent Thorin to deliver it to Elrond to decipher.

"Our affairs have nothing to do with the elves..." Even at this point, Thorin was still unwilling to show the map to Elrond; he remained hostile and distrustful of the elves.

Gandalf was somewhat angry upon seeing this.

"My God, Thorin, put away your dwarven stubbornness and show the map to Lord Elrond."

"This is a heirloom of my people, and I should protect it, including its secrets," Thorin stubbornly refused.

"Stop with your dwarven stubbornness. Your arrogance will get you one day!" Gandalf said firmly. "The man in front of you is one of the few people in Middle-earth who can read that map. Show him the map."

Thorin, head tilted back, stood frozen with Gandalf, neither giving an inch.

Dui and Elrond remained silent, observing quietly from the sidelines.

In the end, Thorin lowered his head first, took the map out of his pocket, and handed it to Elrond.

Elrond ignored Thorin's attitude and took the map to examine it carefully.
