Chapter 188 Will Ward Run Away?
Chapter 188 Will Ward Run Away?
Lynn only had time to turn his head to avoid the blow, but his cheek still stung. He knew things were going badly; this sudden attack was extremely disadvantageous for him. In the cramped carriage, he couldn't fully utilize his strength, while the suspect, like a raging beast, launched relentless and fierce attacks.
"Damn it, are you insane?!" Lynn roared, desperately trying to fend off the suspect's attacks.
His arm was gripped painfully by the suspect, but he did not back down and slammed his knee into the suspect's abdomen.
The suspect groaned in pain, his movements slowing slightly. Lynn seized the opportunity to break free of his grip, quickly drawing a pistol from his waist and pointing it at the suspect's head.
"Don't move! I'll shoot if you move again!" Lynn shouted sternly.
However, the suspect seemed not to hear him and continued to lunge at Lynn. Left with no other option, Lynn pulled the trigger. However, at this crucial moment, the pistol unexpectedly jammed.
"Damn it!" Lynn cursed inwardly, threw his pistol aside, and began to fight the suspect with his bare hands.
The two engaged in a fierce hand-to-hand combat inside the carriage. Although Lynn was agile and highly skilled in fighting, the suspect's strength and ferocity made it extremely difficult for him. Each impact made him feel as if his bones were about to shatter.
However, Lynn had no intention of giving up. He knew he couldn't lose; he had to bring this dangerous criminal to justice. He gritted his teeth and fought with all his might to deal with the suspect.
Time ticked by, and the battle inside the carriage intensified. Both Lynn and the suspect were drenched in sweat and panting heavily. Neither side showed any sign of giving up, continuing their relentless attacks and defenses.
Finally, in a fierce confrontation, Lynn seized an opening in the suspect's defenses and delivered a powerful punch to his temple. The suspect only had time to let out a scream before collapsing limply into his seat.
Lynn, panting heavily, looked at the suspect slumped in his seat. He knew the battle was over; he had finally defeated this dangerous criminal. A wave of weakness washed over him, but he forced himself to pull over and call for help.
Shortly after, backup police cars arrived at the scene. Lynn's colleagues were shocked to see her covered in blood and disheveled. But when they saw the suspect already subdued in her seat, they all showed expressions of admiration.
"Lynn, you're amazing! You subdued this dangerous criminal all by yourself!" A colleague patted Lynn on the shoulder and exclaimed in admiration.
Lynn shook his head with a wry smile. "Don't even mention it, this was a near-death experience." He felt utterly exhausted, as if his body had been hollowed out. "Let's take him back to headquarters first; I need to rest."
With the help of his colleagues, Lynn escorted the suspect back to FBI headquarters and received basic medical treatment.
He then returned to his office, sat down in his chair, and let out a long sigh of relief. He was still shaken by the fierce battle he had just fought, but at the same time, he felt proud and gratified of his victory.
Inside the interrogation room, the lights were pale and cold. Lynn sat at one end of the table, his gaze fixed intently on the suspect opposite him. This was a battle of wits and intellect, and he, as an elite FBI agent, had to uncover the truth within this contest.
The suspect sat in the chair, his expression seemingly calm, but a hint of unease lurked in his eyes. Lynn knew perfectly well that this was the crucial moment for a breakthrough.
"Speak, who instructed you to commit this crime?" Lynn's voice was calm and firm, as if it could penetrate the suspect's soul.
The suspect smirked, revealing a disdainful smile. "No one ordered me to do it. I did it all myself."
Lynn frowned slightly; he didn't believe the suspect's story. Based on his years of experience, he was certain someone was manipulating this case. He took a deep breath and decided to use a different strategy.
"Do you think you can take all the blame? We have enough evidence to know you're not the mastermind." Lynn's tone carried a hint of threat. "Tell the truth now, and you might get some leniency."
The suspect's eyes wavered slightly, but quickly regained their composure. "I really don't know what you're talking about."
Seeing this, Lynn knew this interrogation wouldn't be simple. He decided to try a different approach. "Alright, since you won't talk, I'll guess." He paused deliberately, observing the suspect's reaction. "Was it Ward who instructed you?"
A flicker of surprise crossed the suspect's eyes upon hearing the name "Ward." Though it was only for a brief moment...
But Lynn noticed this detail.
"Looks like I guessed right," Lynn continued. "What did Ward give you? Money? Status?"
Or something else?
"I don't know what you're talking about," the suspect remained defiant, but his eyes began to gleam.
Lynn was secretly delighted, knowing he had found a breakthrough. He decided to press his advantage, "Stop pretending,"
We've got contact information between Ward and you. He might have already escaped, leaving you to take the blame. Are you really willing to sacrifice yourself for him?
These words seemed to touch a nerve with the suspect. He lowered his head, remained silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up, his eyes flashing with anger. "That bastard Ward! He promised me a lot of money and a better life, but now he's just dumped me here!"
Seeing this, Lynn knew he had successfully opened the suspect's heart. He remained calm and continued to guide the suspect to reveal more of the truth, "So, what exactly did Ward make you do?"
The suspect took a deep breath and began to recount his deal with Ward and the entire criminal plan. As he spoke, Lynn gradually learned the truth of the case. It turned out that Ward had exploited the suspect's greed and weaknesses, drawing him into the crime.
After the interrogation, Lynn felt a sense of relief. He had finally uncovered the truth of the case and provided crucial clues for the subsequent manhunt. He knew the battle was far from over, but he was confident he could bring Ward to justice.
However, just as Lynn was about to leave the interrogation room, the suspect suddenly called out to him, "Detective, can I ask you a question?"
Lynn stopped and turned to look at the suspect. "You speak."
"Will Ward really escape? Will he come back to save me?" A hint of hope appeared in the suspect's eyes.
Lynn looked at the suspect, understanding his thoughts. He sighed. "I don't know if Ward will come back to save you. But I can tell you that whether he returns or not, you must pay the price for your crimes." With that, he turned and left the interrogation room, leaving the suspect standing there in silence. The interrogation was over, but for Lynn, this was only the beginning of the hunt for Ward.
Night fell, and the city's neon lights flickered with a cold light. Lynn and Hans wandered through the streets and alleys.
Their only goal was to capture Ward, who had fled.
"Lynn, are you sure Ward would be hiding here?" Hans asked, gazing at the towering skyscraper before him.
That was Ward's company, and also the location of their operation.
Lynn's eyes were resolute. "According to the clues we have, Ward frequently visited this place before his escape. Moreover, there have been rumors that his company is involved in illegal activities. I believe there must be a secret hideout for him here."
The two quickly entered the building, avoiding the patrolling security guards, and headed straight for Ward's office. However, when they pushed open the office door, they found it empty.
"It seems Ward has escaped." Hans looked around, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
Lynn wasn't angry. "He can't escape. Let's split up and search. There must be clues he left behind here."
The two split up, carefully searching every corner of the office. Suddenly, Lynn discovered a hidden entrance to a secret room. Overjoyed, he immediately called Hans over.
"Looks like we've found it." Lynn pushed open the door to the secret room, and a chilling aura rushed out. The interior of the secret room was dark and cramped, filled with all sorts of strange instruments and medicines.
Hans frowned as he looked at the scene before him. "Where exactly is this place?"
Lynn didn't answer; his gaze was drawn to several test tubes in the center of the room. Those test tubes contained the new type of drug they had been tracking.
"We found it!" Lynn excitedly picked up a test tube. "This is the new drug Ward has been secretly developing. This evidence is enough to convict him!"
However, just as the two were preparing to leave with the evidence, the door to the secret room suddenly slammed shut. Immediately afterwards...
A strange laugh echoed through the secret room.
"What do you think you've found? Ha, that's ridiculous!" Ward's voice came from the hidden speaker, full of sarcasm and provocation.
Lynn and Hans exchanged glances, surprised that Ward had left a backup plan. Now, they were trapped in this secret room, while Ward was probably somewhere laughing at their incompetence.
"Ward, do you think this will stop us?" Lynn shouted. "You're wrong! We'll find a way out and bring you to justice!"
Ward's laughter abruptly stopped, replaced by a chilling voice: "Then let's see if you have the ability."
The atmosphere inside the room suddenly became tense. Lynn and Hans began searching for a way out, but the room's design was exceptionally clever, and they seemed to be trapped in a vicious cycle.
Time ticked by, and their anxiety grew. They knew that if they couldn't find a way out soon, they might be trapped here forever.
"Hans, look at this!" Lynn suddenly spotted a switch hidden in the wall. "Could this be the exit to the secret room?"
Hans quickly came over and examined it. "It's possible! Let's give it a try."
The two pressed the switch together, and one side of the secret room slowly slid open, revealing a passage. Overjoyed, they immediately followed the passage forward.
However, when they emerged from the corridor, they found themselves not back in Ward's office, but in an even darker basement. It was filled with various discarded items and broken equipment, resembling a long-abandoned laboratory.
"Where are we?" Hans looked around, a hint of confusion in his voice.
A glint flashed in Lynn's eyes. "This must be Ward's lab for developing drugs. Look at all this waste and equipment—it's all from the drug manufacturing process." He paused. "And I'm sure the exit is nearby."
The two began a thorough search of the basement. After some effort, they finally found an exit hidden in a corner. As they pushed open the exit door, a breath of fresh air rushed in, and they knew they had successfully escaped.
However, when they came out of the basement, they found that Ward had vanished without a trace. They immediately contacted the police to launch a citywide manhunt, but Ward seemed to have evaporated into thin air, disappearing without a trace.
A few days later, on a sunny afternoon, sunlight streamed through the clouds and into the city's streets and alleys. Lynn and Hans were busy investigating a robbery, analyzing the case in front of a whiteboard in their office and marking possible locations of the suspects.
Suddenly, Lynn's phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen; it was a message from his subordinate: "A new type of drug deal has occurred at the port. Please get there as soon as possible."
Lynn frowned and told Hans what the message was about. Hans immediately gathered the documents on the table. "We need to get there quickly and see if it's related to Ward."
The two quickly left the office and drove to the port. Along the way, Lynn's mind kept replaying the new drugs they had found in the secret room and Ward's escape. His unease grew stronger.
As they arrived at the port, they heard gunshots and shouts in the distance. The two cautiously approached the source of the noise and discovered a group of drug dealers engaged in a fierce firefight with several FBI agents.
"What's going on?" Hans asked in surprise.
"I don't know, but it seems these drug dealers came prepared." Lynn observed the battle and found that the drug dealers were not only well-equipped, but also had excellent tactical coordination.
Suddenly, a drug dealer spotted them and opened fire. Lynn and Hans quickly took cover.
At the same time, he drew his weapon and fought back.
"We have to find a way to support those agents!" Lynn shouted.
"Understood!" Hans replied, and the two began to split up, using the containers and stacks of goods in the port as cover, gradually moving closer to the center of the firefight.
In the fierce firefight, Lynn and Hans kept firing, trying to distract the drug dealers. However, the dealers seemed unfazed and attacked even more frantically.
"Why are these drug dealers working so hard?" Hans asked, puzzled.
"I don't know, but I have a feeling they're protecting something," Lynn guessed.
Just then, they spotted a drug dealer trying to escape with a mysterious package. Lynn and Hans exchanged a glance and immediately gave chase.
During the chase, they fired continuously, trying to stop the drug dealers from escaping. However, the drug dealers charged forward as if they didn't care about their lives, as if the package was more important to them than their own.
Finally, at a corner, Lynn and Hans successfully intercepted the drug dealers. Upon seeing this, the drug dealers immediately dropped their packages and drew their pistols, pointing them at them.
"Don't move!" Lynn shouted, pointing his gun at the drug dealer.
However, the drug dealer sneered and suddenly pulled the pin on a grenade. Lynn and Hans retreated in terror, simultaneously firing at the dealer. The grenade exploded in his hand, blasting him to pieces.
After the explosion, Lynn and Hans cautiously approached the mysterious package. When they opened it, they were astonished to find it filled with a new type of drug.
"How did these drugs get here?" Hans asked in surprise.
"I don't know, but these drugs are definitely related to Ward," Lynn said confidently. "We must take these drugs back immediately for testing to see if we can find any clues about Ward."
The two quickly gathered the drugs and prepared to leave. However, just then, they suddenly heard hurried footsteps. Turning around, they saw a group of gang members rushing towards them.
"Run!" Lynn shouted, grabbing Hans and dashing forward. The two weaved through the complex harbor environment, trying to shake off the gang members' pursuit. However, the gang members were relentless, seemingly determined to get their hands on the drugs.
During their escape, Lynn and Hans constantly used the harbor's obstacles to evade and fight back. Their coordinated actions allowed them to successfully repel several gang members. However, as the number of gang members increased, their situation became increasingly dangerous.
"We have to find a way to break out!" Lynn shouted. He looked around and saw a cargo ship loading and unloading cargo not far away. "Let's run that way!" he shouted, pointing in the direction of the cargo ship.
The two men quickly ran towards the cargo ship, firing at the gang members behind them. In the ensuing chase, they successfully boarded the ship and hid in the hold.
By the time the gang members caught up with them to the side of the ship, it was too late; they could only watch helplessly as the gangsters escaped. Lynn and Hans, panting heavily in the cabin, exchanged a knowing smile.
"We need to contact headquarters for support immediately," Lynn said, taking out his phone and starting to dial.
Shortly after, the police arrived at the scene and arrested all the remaining gang members, conducting a detailed investigation and evidence collection. Meanwhile, Lynn and Hans took the new drugs back to FBI headquarters for further testing and analysis, hoping to find clues about Ward and bring him to justice.
Although the sudden fire was extremely dangerous, it also strengthened their resolve and belief in fighting crime.
Back at FBI headquarters, the two immediately handed the drugs over to the lab for analysis. They anxiously awaited the results in their office while discussing their next move.
Soon after, the test results came back: these new drugs were indeed similar in composition to the drugs Ward had previously developed!
This meant that Ward might still be continuing his illegal activities and had even expanded them! This discovery shocked the two men but also strengthened their resolve to hunt him down. "We must find Ward and bring him to justice as soon as possible!" Lynn said, clenching his fist. "This time, we can't let him escape again!"
