Chapter 205 was more dangerous than she had initially imagined.

Chapter 205 was more dangerous than she had initially imagined.

Kate sat on the living room sofa, her laptop screen still lit. She was trying to organize her next reporting plan, but Lynn's warning before he left kept replaying in her mind. He said the Holy Blood Alliance was watching her and she had to be careful. She knew he wasn't exaggerating, but she still felt she should pay the price, even take the risk, for the truth.

"It's too quiet," she muttered to herself, trying to break the tension within her. But she knew that this silence itself was a dangerous sign.

Kate stood up, stretched, then walked to the window, pulled back the curtains a crack, and glanced out onto the street. She saw an unfamiliar black sedan parked across the street, its windows tinted with dark tint, obscuring the view inside. Although it seemed perfectly normal, Kate's intuition made her uneasy.

She returned to the sofa, trying to relax and tell herself it was just an ordinary car, but her hand unconsciously reached for the self-defense gun hidden in the coffee table drawer. Lynn had told her to always carry this gun.

He knew Kate wouldn't give up this fight easily, but he at least hoped she could protect herself.

Meanwhile, in the shadows not far from the apartment building, Lynn was standing in a discreet SUV

He was observing Kate's apartment by the dim streetlights. He leaned against the car door, his expression cold, and held a silenced pistol in his hand.

Ever since Kate's article was published, he knew the Holy Blood Alliance would not let her off easily. These dark organizations are always efficient and ruthless; they won't tolerate anyone exposing their secrets to the light of day. And Kate has undoubtedly become a thorn in their side.

A faint static sound suddenly came through Lynn's earpiece, followed by a familiar voice: "Lynn, this is Hans. What's your location?"

"I'm outside Kate's apartment," Lynn said in a low, calm voice. "The situation is relatively normal for now."

But I suspect they've already started.

"Is there any movement over there?" Hans asked.

"No, but there's a car parked across the street that looks suspicious." Lynn glanced at the black sedan, her gaze sharp as a knife. "I'm going to wait a bit longer."

"Alright, I'll send a support team over, but it'll take some time." Hans's voice carried a hint of worry. "If they do send people, don't confront them head-on."

Lynn didn't answer; he simply hung up. He knew he wouldn't wait for reinforcements before taking action.

Time is of the essence, and the Holy Blood Alliance will not give them many chances.

Just then, the door of the black sedan suddenly opened, and several figures stepped out. Their movements were swift and stealthy, clearly those of trained professional assassins. Dressed in dark clothing and wearing hats, they quickly dispersed; two headed straight for Kate's apartment building, while the other two remained by the car as a precaution.

Lynn's eyes instantly turned cold. He muttered a curse under his breath, then quickly turned around and took out a thermal imaging camera and a spare weapon from the car.

Kate sat on the sofa, her unease growing stronger. Suddenly, she heard soft footsteps coming from the hallway, followed by the sound of her apartment door lock being pried open. Her body stiffened, and her hand slowly reached into the coffee table drawer, pulling out the self-defense gun.

"Who?" she shouted, trying to make her voice sound more intimidating.

The only answer she received was the click of the door lock being fully opened. Kate held her breath, aiming her gun. The next second, two men dressed in black burst in, each carrying a silenced pistol.

"Finish her off now!" one of them whispered, raising his gun to point at Kate.

Kate pulled the trigger. The first shot hit the doorframe, but the second struck one of the men in the shoulder. The man groaned and fell to the ground. The other assassin quickly returned fire, the bullet grazing Kate's ear. She immediately rolled behind the sofa, using it as cover.

The bullet pierced the sofa back with a low "thud." Kate's heart pounded in her chest. She tried to steady her hand and aim to fire. But her opponent was incredibly fast, quickly circling around to her side.

"Damn it!" Kate cursed under her breath, feeling her strength being swallowed up by fear.

However, just as the assassin was about to pull the trigger, a muffled thud came from outside the window. The assassin's body lurched forward and he fell to the ground, a spray of blood erupting from his head.

Kate was stunned. She turned to look out the window and saw Lynn standing on the roof of the building opposite, holding a sniper rifle, his gaze as cold as a hawk's.

"Get down!" Lynn whispered the command through the earpiece.

Kate immediately complied, lying prone on the ground, while Lynn began to move. He swiftly slid down from the rooftop, his movements as agile as a cheetah.

At the same time, the other two assassins downstairs heard the gunshots and were preparing to rush into the apartment. After landing, Lynn aimed his gun directly at their backs, and after two muffled thuds, the two bodies fell to the ground.

Without hesitation, Lynn rushed towards the apartment, leaped up the stairs, and stormed into Kate's room. He quickly scanned the room with his gun, and only after confirming there were no other threats did he approach Kate, who was hiding behind the sofa.

"Are you alright?" His voice was cold and hard, yet it carried a hint of concern.

Kate looked up, her face etched with shock, but she shook her head. "I'm alive."

Thanks to you.

Lynn nodded and helped her up. "We have to go. This place has been exposed, and they might send more people."

Kate gritted her teeth and nodded, following Lynn out of the apartment. As they walked downstairs, she couldn't help but whisper, "Would they really stop at nothing to kill me?"

"Yes," Lynn's voice was low. "You are their target now, but you don't understand these people enough. Their methods are not just about killing; they will show you what true despair is."

Kate didn't speak again, but her gaze became even more resolute. She knew she was caught in a battle more dangerous than she had imagined, but she also understood that there was no turning back.

In the night breeze, Lynn helped Kate into the car, started the engine, and quickly drove away from the scene.

Lynn's car sped through the streets of Brooklyn. Kate sat in the passenger seat, her hands gripping the seatbelt tightly, her expression still not fully composed. The atmosphere inside the car was heavy and oppressive, filled only by the low rumble of the engine. Lynn gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his gaze as cold and sharp as a knife. His other hand rested lightly on the communicator to his ear, his voice low and tinged with impatience.

"Hans, where are your men?" Lynn asked urgently.

"We just arrived, Lynn," Hans's voice came through the earpiece, mixed with the muffled sound of sirens in the background. "We've caught a small-time boss, the team leader. He's being taken to headquarters for interrogation. You'd better be back right away."

Lynn nodded, then turned to look at Kate, who still seemed somewhat shaken. "We have to go to headquarters."

Kate looked up, took a deep breath, and tried to make her voice sound calm. "Will that little boss cooperate?"

"If he doesn't cooperate, I'll make him understand that cooperation is the only option." Lynn's gaze was like a knife, and his voice was as low as a muffled thunderclap.

Kate nodded and said nothing more. Although she still had doubts about Lynn's methods, at this moment, she could only trust this cold-blooded agent.

The atmosphere in the FBI headquarters interrogation room was tense, like a taut bowstring. The room was dimly lit, with only a single bright spotlight shining directly on the center of the table. A bearded man sat in a chair, his hands resting on the table. His face still bore traces of blood, and a cold smile played on his lips, seemingly oblivious to his predicament.

Hans stood to the side, arms crossed, his face grim. He glanced at the man sitting in the chair, then at Lynn as he entered, and nodded.

"This is our guy," Hans said, pointing to the man. "His name is Michel Reinaldo, a low-ranking leader in the Holy Blood Alliance, specializing in assassinations and 'cleaning up' missions. He was the one who led the attack on Kate tonight."

Lynn walked to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down. He didn't speak, but stared at Reinaldo with eyes so cold they seemed to pierce through one's soul.

Reinaldo raised an eyebrow, leaned back in his chair, and said lazily, "Let me guess, you're going to tell me I'm in big trouble next, right?"

"Your troubles are bigger than you think," Lynn said in a deep but intimidating voice. "But that depends on how you answer my questions next."

"A problem?" Reinaldo chuckled. "Don't bother. I won't say anything."

"Oh?" Lynn leaned forward slightly, a cold smile playing on his lips. "You think you're so smart, huh? Well, let me tell you, when we captured you, we already had your devices and communication records. We know tonight's orders came from the core of the Holy Blood Alliance. And you, you're just a messenger."

Reinaldo's smile froze for a moment, but he quickly regained his previous indifference. "If you know all this, why are you asking me? You might as well just lock me up for life."

Lynn ignored his provocation, tapping her fingers lightly on the table. "We have time, but I don't think you do. Do you think the Holy Blood Alliance would risk something as insignificant as you? If you fall into our hands, they'll only see you as a burden. They'll abandon you, even erasing all traces you left behind, including yourself."

Reinaldo's lips twitched, and a hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it. "You agents only know how to play these psychological tactics. They don't work on me."

"Then try it." Lynn stood up, looking at him coldly. "We've contacted several witnesses and the technical team to piece together your plan for tonight. How long do you think you can hold out?"

"Screw you!" Reinaldo slammed his fist on the table, clearly losing his temper. "You bunch of damn investigators, you know absolutely nothing!"

Lynn stopped and turned slightly to look at him, her tone still calm, "Then why don't you tell us, let us know more?"

Reinaldo opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately kept it closed. Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, and the chains on his wrists clinked softly with his movements.

Just then, in the observation room outside the interrogation room, Kate watched everything through the one-way glass, feeling both tense and shocked. She had witnessed Lynn's efficiency before, but now, for the first time, she was witnessing his interrogation skills firsthand—that calm yet oppressive aura seemed to thin the air.

"Do you think he'll back down?" Kate asked Hans in a low voice, who was standing next to her.

"Reinaldo is the kind of person who—" Hans shrugged, "is only loyal to his own interests. If we can make him feel that cooperating with us is safer than keeping the Holy Blood Alliance's secrets, he'll talk to us."

Kate nodded, but the tension in her heart still lingered. She knew that Reinaldo might possess crucial intelligence about the Holy Blood Alliance, intelligence that could determine the lives of many more people.

A few minutes later, Lynn sat down again, his gaze coldly fixed on Reinaldo. "This is your last chance. Tell us the Holy Blood Alliance's next objective, and we might consider sparing your life."

"What good will it do me if I tell you?" Reinaldo said through gritted teeth, his voice tinged with despair. "The Holy Blood Alliance won't let me go. No matter where you lock me up, they'll find me, and then—" He made a throat-slitting gesture.

"That depends on whether they have the opportunity." Lynn's voice remained calm, but carried an undeniable power. "If you cooperate, we can give you a full protection agreement. You will get a new identity, a new life—instead of having your throat slit in some dark corner."

Reinaldo's Adam's apple bobbed, clearly indicating some hesitation.

"The core of the Holy Blood Alliance has already been touched," Lynn continued, "and you are merely their tool. If you don't speak now, once they discover you've been captured, their purge will be even faster than ours. You will die, and die a far worse death than those men who died tonight."

Reinaldo's eyes darted around for a moment, then he finally lowered his head and said in a hoarse voice, "Alright... alright. I'll tell you... but you have to guarantee my safety."

"Speak first," Lynn's voice was as cold as a knife.

Reinaldo gritted his teeth, remained silent for a few seconds, and finally spoke, "Their next target..."

It's at the dock. They're arranging a secret shipment—some new experimental subject. It's scheduled for midnight the day after tomorrow.

A cold glint flashed in Lynn's eyes, but he didn't show his emotions, simply nodding. "Continue. The specific location?"

"The underground warehouse at Pier 7. They've made some arrangements there to cover up cargo transport," Reinaldo said, panting. "But I don't know what the specific cargo is—only the higher-ups know."

"What else?" Lynn pressed, her tone showing no sign of reassurance.

Reinaldo hesitated for a moment, then finally said in a low voice, "They sent a man named 'Caller' to lead the operation. He's a core executor of the Holy Blood Alliance. If you want to strike at the Holy Blood Alliance, you have to capture him."

Lynn nodded, stood up, and said into Hans's headset, "Recording complete. Notify the field team, we have a target." He turned to Reinaldo and added coldly, "I hope your intelligence is accurate, otherwise, you won't like the consequences."

Reinaldo lowered his head and said nothing more, but the beads of sweat on his forehead betrayed his fear.

At midnight, Pier 7 in Brooklyn was shrouded in deathly darkness. A cold wind blew in from the sea, carrying a biting chill and stirring the fog above the harbor. The occasional sound of a ship's horn in the distance sounded like a low, menacing warning. Most of the lights on the pier were off, with only a few dim chandeliers swaying from the top of the warehouses, casting a faint glow on the sea-eroded iron gates.

Lynn leaned against an inconspicuous van, his sharp gaze scanning every corner of the dock. He was dressed in black tactical gear, holding a silenced pistol, and the occasional sound of his team's communications could be heard in his ears.

"The target area is clear." Hans's voice came through the earpiece, as calm and professional as ever. "The outer security is fine, but the internal layout may be more complex than we imagined. I just received intelligence that 'Caller' has personally arrived at the scene."

Lynn's gaze instantly turned even colder. "Caller?" he repeated softly, as if chewing on the name.

“That’s right, a high-ranking executor of the Blood Alliance,” Hans continued. “He’s not just a coordinator, but a cold-blooded killer. He’s reportedly personally overseen numerous assassinations, including the ‘cleanup’ of several mutant test subjects. This man is more dangerous than any enemy we’ve encountered before.”

"Alright." Lynn's voice was deep but firm. "This time, we'll keep him here."

"Are you sure?" Hans's voice carried a hint of worry. "If the intelligence is true, he has a whole squad of mercenaries with him. This is their home turf, and we don't have enough men."

"This isn't about numbers," Lynn said coldly. "It's about speed. We must thwart their plans before they complete their deal."

Lynn looked up into the distance. Several armored trucks were parked by the dock, and a few fully armed guards patrolled around them. Their steps were neat and orderly, clearly indicating that they were not ordinary street thugs, but professionally trained assassins.

He activated his headset and issued orders to all action teams: "Everyone, take your positions. Once inside, prioritize confirming the cargo and cutting off their supply lines. Be careful of Caleb; this man cannot be underestimated."

"Understood." A few brief responses came through the communication.

Lynn took a deep breath, pulled down his hat brim, gripped his weapon, and stealthily made his way to the flank of the warehouse.

The darkness provided him cover; his footsteps were as light as a cat's, making almost no sound in the darkness.

Kate was sitting in the FBI's makeshift command vehicle, nervously watching the operation unfold on the monitor. Lynn had insisted she stay, and despite her attempts to argue, she ultimately had to give in. She knew she was no longer a bystander; her reporting was inextricably linked to the operation, and she understood that it was all far more dangerous than she had initially imagined.
