Chapter 251: A Surprise Seizure
Lynn sat in the interrogation room, facing Vincent, who was handcuffed to a chair. A tense atmosphere filled the air. Lynn's gaze was cold and stern. On the table were the ledgers and photos that had just been found at the hideout.
"Vincent, you know we have enough evidence to put you in jail for life." Lynn's voice was deep but carried a sense of oppression. "But I'm giving you a chance. Tell me who's behind you, and what they're planning."
Vincent looked up, a cold smile playing on his lips. "You think I'm afraid? Inspector Lynn, you're the one sitting here, not me."
Lynn clasped his hands together, his gaze sharp: "This is your last chance. If you cooperate, I can recommend to the court that your sentence be reduced. But if you continue to be stubborn, then wait and see how you get abandoned."
Vincent snorted coldly, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and looked like he refused to cooperate.
Lynn looked at him, his anger burning inside, but his face remained expressionless. He got up and left the interrogation room, going to the observation room next door, where Mark was waiting for him.
"Detective, this guy won't talk easily," Mark said in a low voice. "He's clearly prepared to not cooperate."
“No one will willingly take the blame for an organization or mastermind for their entire life,” Lynn said calmly. “His weakness isn’t here; we need to change direction.”
Mark raised an eyebrow: "You mean...his family?"
Lynn nodded: "Vincent may be a cunning old fox, but everyone has a weakness. He has a younger brother and an adult daughter, and I suspect they might know some clues, or even be involved with him. Investigate his family background, including his recent activity records, and see if you can find a breakthrough."
Mark nodded quickly: "Understood, I'll arrange it right away."
After watching Mark leave, Lynn returned to his office and reviewed Vincent's file. He knew that when someone like Vincent was cornered, his only option was to exploit anything that could threaten him. And family was usually the most effective point of attack.
A few hours later, Mark returned to the branch office with a detailed investigation report in his hand.
"Detective, I've found out about Vincent's family. His brother, Jonathan, lives in the suburbs and runs a small restaurant; he seems quite ordinary. But recently, a very suspicious sum of $100,000 flowed into his account through an offshore account."
Lynn's eyes sharpened: "One hundred thousand dollars? Does the timing of this payment coincide with Vincent's recent activities?"
Mark nodded: "It matches perfectly, and I've also discovered something else. Vincent's daughter, Lisa, has been frequenting a high-end law firm recently, possibly preparing legally for her father's 'accident'."
Lynn sneered, "It seems Vincent hasn't given up on controlling his family; he's using them as cover. His brother might be the money laundering channel, and his daughter is his backup plan."
"What do we do next?" Mark asked.
"Go find his brother Jonathan," Lynn said firmly. "If he was involved in this conspiracy, or was used by Vincent, then we need to uncover the truth as soon as possible."
Mark nodded: "I'll take some men over there to investigate right away."
"Remember, don't alert them," Lynn cautioned. "If Jonathan is truly colluding with Vincent, he will definitely try to protect his brother. We need to find solid evidence so that Vincent has no way out."
Mark and his team quickly left, while Lynn returned to the interrogation room to face Vincent again. He threw a stack of photos on the table, his tone cold: "Vincent, these photos are records of your brother Jonathan's recent activities, along with evidence of financial transfers. You don't want him involved, do you?"
Vincent's expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure: "Lynn. He has nothing to do with this."
Lynn leaned back in his chair, his gaze sharp as a knife: "Is that so? Then wait and see how he explains that $100,000 and why he's covering for you. Time is running out, Vincent. Your silence will only make them take more blame for you."
Vincent gripped the armrest tightly, a hint of struggle flashing in his eyes, but he still didn't speak.
Lynn knew that time was drawing closer to the truth, and Mark's investigation would soon break down the old fox's last line of defense.
Seeing Vincent's tense expression, Lynn knew his strategy was gradually taking effect. He spoke in a calm yet authoritative tone, "Vincent, let me paint a simple picture for you. If you don't cooperate, your brother Jonathan and your daughter Lisa will be dragged into this mess. We have enough evidence to bring them to justice. Are you willing to see them pay the price for your actions?"
Vincent's hands trembled slightly under the table. His eyes darted around for a moment, but he still gritted his teeth and said, "You have no evidence. They didn't do anything wrong!"
"No evidence?" Lynn sneered, slamming a bank transfer record on the table. "This is the evidence: $100,000, transferred directly from an offshore account to your brother's. And these are surveillance screenshots of your daughter frequently visiting the law firm. She's paving the way for your escape, isn't she?"
Vincent's expression changed completely. He looked at the evidence, his Adam's apple bobbing, but he didn't utter another sound.
Lynn continued to press: "Vincent, you're a smart man. You know that if we can find this, we can find more. If you continue to remain silent, not only you, but your family will be dragged down by the law. They shouldn't have to bear the consequences for everything you've done. Now is your only chance to tell the truth, cooperate, and save them."
Vincent's grip loosened, and cold sweat began to bead on his forehead. He took a deep breath, his eyes filled with struggle and despair, and finally he lowered his head, his voice hoarse: "You won, Lynn. I said."
Lynn showed no sign of victory, but calmly sat up straight, waiting for Vincent to continue.
Vincent's gaze darted around, his voice trembling: "This... was all orchestrated by Alan Coleman. He's the mastermind, controlling the entire network. I was just a tool, laundering funds and patching loopholes for him."
Lynn raised an eyebrow slightly. Alan Coleman—that name was well-known in his intelligence network. He was a shrewd businessman who, on the surface, ran legitimate businesses but in reality controlled a vast criminal network involved in financial fraud, illicit trade, and transnational money laundering.
"Continue," Lynn's voice was calm yet authoritative. "What did Coleman make you do?"
Vincent closed his eyes, as if gathering his thoughts: "He orchestrated the Blackwood family's bankruptcy. Decades ago, he swallowed up the Blackwood family's wealth through forged contracts and offshore accounts, and then laundered the money through us 'advisors.' He didn't want to leave any trace, so he ordered me to destroy all evidence that might point to him, including those ledgers."
"What else have you done for him all these years?" Lynn pressed.
Vincent spoke in a trembling voice, "I helped him cover up loopholes in some old cases, making sure those involved didn't show up. Recently, he became aware of your investigation, so he asked me to have things cleaned out of the hunter's cabin. Unfortunately... I failed."
Lynn sneered, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes: "You didn't just fail, Vincent, you just gave us enough reason to go straight to Coleman."
Vincent lowered his head in despair and muttered, "You have no idea how dangerous he is. He won't let you find him alive."
Lynn stood up, put away the documents on the table, and turned to Mark in the observation room, saying, "Prepare for action. Transfer all this evidence to headquarters, and issue an emergency arrest warrant for Alan Coleman."
Mark nodded and quickly left to make the arrangements. Lynn looked back at Vincent, her tone cold: "You chose this path yourself, so now enjoy the consequences."
Vincent fell silent, hanging his head as if utterly broken. Lynn, however, left the interrogation room with a cold, sharp glint in his eyes.
Lynn stood in the doorway of Coleman's luxurious office, his gaze sharp. He took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy wooden door. The interior was exquisitely furnished, with leather sofas, expensive carpets, and world-renowned paintings on the walls—all testament to Coleman's wealth and status.

Coleman sat behind his desk, looking completely at ease. He was wearing a well-tailored suit and holding a glass of red wine. When Lynn entered, he merely raised his head slightly, a hint of disdain on his lips.
"Detective, what brings you here?" Coleman asked in a flippant tone, clearly not taking Lynn seriously.
Lynn stared coldly at him, walked straight to his desk, slammed a document on it, and said, "Alan Coleman, your name has appeared in far too much evidence. The Blackwood family's bankruptcy, transnational money laundering, illegal trade—do you have anything to add?"
Coleman put down his glass, leaned back in his chair, and smiled more broadly. "Oh, Inspector, I've heard a lot about you. A strong sense of justice, unwavering will, and never afraid of difficulties. It's a pity, though, that these things aren't very valuable in the real world."
"Is that so?" Lynn's voice was as cold as ice. "We have enough evidence; your network is collapsing. Your men are starting to turn themselves in. How much longer can you sit still?"
Coleman chuckled and waved his hand dismissively. "Detective Lynn, you're a smart man, but you don't seem smart enough. You think you can bring me down with just that 'evidence'? The rules of this world are far more complex than you imagine. No matter how deep you investigate or how much you do, you'll only find yourself being used like a fool."
Lynn frowned slightly, but remained unmoved: "No matter how complicated the rules are, they cannot escape the law. I will personally take you to court."
Coleman stood up, walked over to Lynn, looked down at him with obvious contempt: "The law? The law is nothing but a plaything for the strong to use for appearances. Lynn, take my advice, don't make a futile struggle. You're a good cop, why ruin your future for this trivial matter?"
Lynn sneered, "Because it's my duty. And scum like you is exactly the kind of person I need to eliminate."
Coleman laughed as if he'd heard a ridiculous joke, then leaned closer to Lynn and whispered, "I can give you a sum of money, Inspector. A large sum, if you give up the investigation and stop interfering in my affairs. It's enough for you and your family to live a carefree life. You can choose to leave, with all your sense of justice, and enjoy true freedom."
Lynn's gaze was icy cold. He slowly raised his head and stared at Coleman: "You think I'm the kind of person who can be bribed?"
Coleman shrugged, turned back to his chair, and picked up his glass again. "Everyone has their price, Inspector Lynn. Some people just have higher prices, and I can afford them."
Lynn slowly approached the table, his voice low and menacing: "You made the biggest mistake you could ever make: you underestimated me. Your money can't buy justice, nor can it buy my conscience."
A flicker of disdain crossed Coleman's eyes, then he smiled and said, "In that case, I wish you good luck. But you'll soon find that this is a game you can't win."
Lynn remained silent, merely staring coldly at Coleman before turning and leaving the office. He knew Coleman's confidence wasn't unfounded, but this only strengthened his resolve to bring the man to justice.
After leaving the building, Lynn dialed Mark's number: "Proceed with everything according to plan. Monitor all his activities, cut off all his resources and connections. He thinks he's invincible, let him see how his empire collapses."
Mark's voice came through the phone, tinged with excitement: "Understood, Inspector. This time, we won't let him escape."
Lynn stood in the center of the police station's command room, his gaze sweeping over his agents, his tone low and firm: "Coleman's influence is vast, and his incriminating evidence is well-hidden, but we don't need to wait until we find all the evidence before taking action. Today, we'll make him understand that the net of justice is beginning to close."
He turned and drew a line on the whiteboard, marking a location: "Coleman's upscale bar 'Nightfall' is one of his illicit trading hubs. We have enough evidence to prove that this is a key location for his money laundering and cover-up of criminal activities. Tonight, we will raid this bar on suspicion of illicit trading and money laundering."
Mark, standing to the side, nodded in agreement: "Detective, we just received news from the financial analysis team that there are obvious irregularities in 'Nightfall's' accounts, which could very well be the channel Coleman is using to launder money."
Lynn turned to the other agents and continued, "This is our first warning to Coleman. His resources and networks depend on the operation of these locations, and once these places are destroyed, his empire will begin to crumble."
Several detectives responded in unison, "Understood!" (End of Chapter)
