Chapter 499 Father Arrives
"Waaaaah! Waaaaah—"
A muffled protest came from the corner.
Loki wriggled like a fish out of water, trying to get attention.
Thor looked down at him.
Loki's two penetrating wounds on his thighs were still bleeding, making him look rather pitiful.
I felt a pang of pity.
He stepped forward and ripped the gag off Loki's mouth.
"Hoo—!" Loki greedily inhaled the air inside the cabin.
"Damn it! This stuff tastes awful, I feel like throwing up!"
Then Thor grabbed the buckles of Loki's shackles, and with a burst of strength, tore off the chains binding him.
Loki rubbed his aching wrists and slumped onto the deck.
"Listen, Loki," Thor said sharply, "from now on, I advise you to behave yourself."
"Your best outcome right now is to obediently come back to Asgard with me and be put in solitary confinement."
"Or, I'll just leave you in this garbage dump to fend for yourself."
"You'd better not make me choose the latter."
Loki glanced out the window at the outside of the spaceship.
He knew perfectly well that the Celestial Venerable must be wishing he could melt him alive right now.
Staying on Sakaar is a sure way to die.
The best solution is to escape with these people.
"Of course, brother." Loki immediately put on a sincere smile and obediently lowered his gaze. "I completely agree with your suggestion. Returning to Asgard and facing a just trial is what I deserve."
After saying that, he staggered to his feet and faced Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon.
"Thank you so much for rescuing me. I am Loki, of the Asgardian royal family." He bowed slightly. "Believe me, I can offer you much assistance on your journey ahead."
"Shut up, you greasy-haired guy." Rocket Raccoon ignored him, pointing his gun at his nose. "Say one more word and I'll slit a hole in your third leg."
"Hey, relax, bunny..."
"My name is Rocket!"
"Alright, Rocket." Loki raised his hands in surrender, limped to the bulkhead, and remained silent.
Just then, the Valkyrie Brunhilde roared from the cockpit.
"boom!"
The spaceship jolted and tilted violently to the left.
Everyone immediately lost their balance, and Star-Lord stumbled and fell towards the cockpit due to inertia.
"What's going on?" Star-Lord steadied himself and looked at the radar screen.
On the screen, countless red dots were rapidly approaching from behind.
"The Grandmaster's pursuers, prepare to engage them," Brunhilde replied calmly.
The spaceship's exhaust plume surged, tracing a sharp curve in the air.
Through the porthole at the rear, the group saw dozens of uniquely designed Sakaar attack craft relentlessly pursuing them.
Energy barrages rained down, grazing the spaceship as it passed.
"Damn it!" The rocket immediately slammed into the ship's weapons control panel. "Quail! Starboard is yours!"
"Don't try to order me around, you raccoon!" Star-Lord leaped onto the gunner's seat on the starboard side. "I've shot down way more planes than you!"
"Keep dreaming, Quill!" Rocket pulled back the stick. "Ten thousand credits! I bet I'll take down more than you!"
"make a deal!"
The two quickly took their positions.
"Da da da da da—!"
The machine guns on both sides of the spacecraft opened fire simultaneously.
Blue energy beams tore through the air, hurtling straight at the pursuers behind.
Immediately, many attack craft were shot down.
But more attack craft came from all sides, and the Celestial Venerable was clearly enraged.
Piloted by Brunhilde, the spaceship maneuvered between buildings.
Enemy planes pursued relentlessly, with some high-speed attack craft tailing the aircraft and getting closer and closer.
Laser projectiles intertwined to form a dense barrage of fire, while the ship's shield alarms screamed wildly.
"Shield energy down to 30%!" Brunhilde roared. "We can't hold out much longer!"
The words had barely left his mouth when the spaceship jolted violently as an energy cannon struck its right wing.
"The right stabilizer is malfunctioning!" Brunhilde pulled the joystick with all her might.
The spaceship's speed dropped sharply.
In the sky outside, the Grandmaster's pursuing fleet had already formed an encirclement.
Hundreds of attack craft hovered all around, their cannons locked onto the teetering spaceship.
"It's over." Loki closed his eyes.
Star-Lord stepped away from the side gun, opened his mask, and pulled out his dual pistols: "Guys, get ready for hand-to-hand combat."
Brunhilde pressed the button.
The hatch at the tail of the spacecraft slowly descended, and a gust of wind rushed into the cabin.
Thor strode to the edge of the hatch, facing the howling wind, lightning crackling around him.
Just as the Grandmaster's fleet was preparing to unleash their combined fire.
The sky above suddenly darkened.
This is not the sun being obscured by dark clouds, but rather the shadow cast by a colossal object.
Everyone looked up.
A colossal interstellar warship appeared in the sky above Sakaar.
It is like a colossal cosmic beast, blotting out the sky and the sun.
"That's?!" Star-Lord's eyes widened.
"Thanos's spaceship..." Loki's face turned ashen.
His wounds from being tortured by Proxima Midnight were still aching; what if Thanos caught him...?
Proxima Midnight, which had been in a coma, has now awakened.
"Your time to die has come," Proxima Midnight sneered. "Father has come, and no one can escape his judgment."
At this moment, the armor of the massive warship slowly opened, revealing a dense array of heavy artillery.
The next second, destruction struck.
A barrage of energy projectiles rained down from the sky like a torrential downpour!
"Boom boom boom boom—!"
The explosions continued incessantly.
This was an indiscriminate carpet bombing.
"Dodge! Dodge!" Star-Lord shouted.
But the barrage of comments was so dense that there was nowhere to hide.
"Hold on tight!" Brunhilde yelled, shoving the joystick all the way down.
The spaceship was diving almost vertically downwards, attempting to use the complex terrain to evade the deadly barrage overhead.
"Bang--!!!"
A heavy energy projectile grazed the left wing of the spaceship.
The left engine was destroyed on the spot, billowing black smoke and flames shooting out.
The spaceship completely lost its balance and spun around in the air.
"Engine malfunction! We've lost control!"
Brunhilde struggled to regain control, but to little avail, and the out-of-control spaceship crashed to the ground.
"Prepare for the impact!" she roared.
"Bang--!"
With a loud bang, the spaceship plunged into the ruins.
The immense impact threw everyone inside the cabin violently into the air before slamming them back down.
Moments later, the explosions outside stopped.
"Is everyone... alright?" Thor was the first to stand up and ask loudly.
"Not dead yet." Rocket pushed aside a metal plate that was pressing down on him, cursing as he got up. "But my back feels like it's been trampled by an elephant."
"I am Groot." Groot shook off the debris and reached out to help the Mantis woman beside him up.
Thor kicked open the deformed hatch, and sunlight and smoke rushed into the cabin.
