The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 157 Increasing Production
Caesar turned around, and there stood Beth, as agile as a fawn in the forest. She stood gracefully with her hands clasped behind her back, simply smiling.
"I've come to talk to Hershel about something."
Upon hearing Caesar's reason for coming, Beth pouted slightly, seemingly a little unhappy, and said, "Fine."
"My dad is over by the peach tree, I'll take you there."
"Okay." Caesar readily agreed and said to Morales and T-boy, "You don't need to follow me. I'll be back in a bit."
After saying that, Caesar walked to Beth's side. "Let's go."
"Okay." Beth nodded and led Caesar along the field.
Walking through the fields, you see corn planted on both sides, which sway in the wind like the ocean.
The sun was shining brightly, and the sky was a clear blue.
Seeing such a beautiful sight was a rare treat, and Caesar smiled as he strolled around admiring it.
Beth, walking ahead, rolled her eyes and fidgeted nervously with her hands, thinking to herself.
Why isn't he saying anything?
Should I start a conversation? It's getting a little awkward if we stay silent like this.
Ah!
What should we talk about?
Beth frowned anxiously, her mind preoccupied with her thoughts. Lost in thought, she accidentally stepped on a slippery stone.
Oops!
Beth fell backward abruptly, closing her eyes and screaming, "Ah!"
The next second, the pain of falling didn't come; instead, Caesar's steady voice reached my ears.
"You have to watch your step when you walk."
Beth felt a surge of excitement, a subtle emotion brewing within her, but when she opened her eyes, the expression on her face instantly froze.
Unlike the TV dramas he had watched before, Caesar did not hold her tightly; instead, he carried her like a chick.
I was too excited just now and didn't notice at all.
Beth listlessly said "Oh," stood obediently, lowered her head, and walked forward while looking at the ground.
Seeing Beth's distraught appearance, Caesar chuckled and shook his head.
During adolescence, emotions come and go quickly.
Before long, Beth was back to her energetic self, happily sharing her daily life at the training camp with Caesar.
"There weren't many people in our training camp that year. I was actually one of the top girls."
Beth looked satisfied, and Caesar didn't call her out on it, but just smiled and nodded, adding a few words of praise.
Caesar, who directly managed the training camp, naturally knew about Beth's cohort. She was indeed ranked among the top, but that was only because there were only a few girls in the cohort.
After chatting for a while, Caesar asked, "Your mood has improved a lot since you went to the training camp."
Previously, Beth had nothing to do and could only help Hershel with some things, but most of her free time was filled with boredom. She was always caught in an emotional vortex and looked listless and lacked energy.
Now, she is noticeably more lively and cheerful, and Beth has made several friends, showing herself to be a true optimist.
Beth raised her little face: "Of course! I used to be all alone, but now I have a lot of good friends. Everyone is working hard to make Yellowstone a better place, and I won't hold them back."
"I help my dad with the planting now, and he has praised me several times, saying that my planting skills have improved a lot."
When the topic of planting came up, Caesar asked about what he cared about most.
"Will the yield from that plantation be enough to feed everyone in Yellowstone?"
Beth didn't even think about it, shaking her head. "It's impossible now, at least not right now."
"We lack chemical fertilizers and pesticides; it's not easy to harvest the crops we grow now intact."
"and……"
Beth's points were all valid, and Caesar realized he had been too hasty. He gradually calmed down and changed the subject with a smile.
After speaking for a short while, Beth suddenly said, "Caesar."
"Hmm." Caesar looked at Beth with some surprise, as people from Yellowstone rarely use their real names.
"I like you."
"Ah!" Caesar was stunned for a moment, completely unexpected that Beth would suddenly confess her feelings.
Seeing Caesar's stunned expression, Beth smiled, her face flushed, looking very cute.
Beth had already stopped and stood on tiptoe. "Are you surprised?"
Caesar nodded.
"Actually, many people in Yellowstone like you, you just might not have realized it. You are our leader, you have great personal charisma, and everyone's survival rests on your shoulders."
When Beth spoke, her eyes sparkled, as if there were stars in them.
"You are outstanding and strong, so it's not surprising that I like you. And... you have helped me, and I always feel cared for by you."
Caesar stood there without saying a word.
Beth continued, "Girls my age actually prefer mature men your age."
"Alright," Caesar replied with a smile.
Seeing that Beth didn't expect him to give any answer, Caesar stepped forward. "Let's go, we can talk as we walk."
On the way, Caesar suddenly asked, "Beth, I already have a girlfriend, why did you choose to confess your feelings?"
Beth glanced at Caesar and smiled. "Because I don't mind."
"My father actually had two women. My biological mother and Maggie's biological mother are not the same person. My father only got together with my mother after he divorced Maggie's mother."
"Then, Maggie's mother came back, and they lived together for a long time, but then..."
Beth didn't continue, and Caesar already knew the outcome: he had been infected with the zombie virus.
What surprised Caesar was that the Herschel family was, well, so complicated.
As if worried that Caesar wouldn't believe her, Beth explained, "Although we're close to Atlanta, there are very few locals here, and with the gender imbalance, there are actually many families like this."
"Besides, it's the end of the world, and I don't want to miss you. I'm worried that I'll die before I'm with you."
Beth's words carried a hint of sadness. She wasn't worried about death happening to her, because it was inevitable; she was only worried about having regrets before she died.
Caesar thought for a moment and nodded: "You're right. We might die tomorrow. It's best to have no regrets."
Not long after, Caesar saw Hershel working.
Herschel, seeing Caesar's arrival, asked in confusion, "Caesar? You've come to see me?"
"Yes, I'd like to talk about increasing production."
"it is good."
Herschel handed the tools to Beth, then walked a short distance away with Caesar and started chatting.
What Herschel said was pretty much the same as what Beth said.
Caesar had no choice but to ask, "Is there anything that can immediately increase production? I'll take my combat squad to collect it."
"The first is machinery. We just started planting this year, so we need machinery to do the work, which can greatly improve efficiency."
"Secondly, we need pesticides to prevent pests from eating our crops..."
Herschel said a lot, and Caesar wrote it all down.
