Chapter 188 Slowly Awakening
The village is becoming increasingly populated.
The man was placed in an open space in the village, where a group of people surrounded him, pointing and whispering.
"These clothes don't look cheap."
"This material, is it silk?"
"Someone from outside?"
"So badly injured, did you run into bandits?"
Aro squeezed into the crowd and stood next to that person.
The elder, leaning on his cane, walked over, looked down at the man, then looked up at A'Luo:
"A-Luo, did you find this on the mountain?"
A'Luo nodded: "Over there at my parents' graves."
The elder stroked his beard and then looked at the man's wounds:
"This injury wasn't from a fall; it was from a knife or arrow. This person is no ordinary individual."
Someone nearby said:
"Judging from their clothes, they must be from a wealthy and noble family outside."
Someone else said:
"Ah Luo, you're a young lady, it's not good for you to take care of strangers like this. Let us handle it, and we'll ask you about it when you wake up."
Aro was stunned.
She looked down at the man.
In the sunlight, the bloodstains on that face didn't seem so glaring. Sword-like eyebrows, a high nose, and tightly pursed lips—even unconscious, they possessed an indescribable...beauty.
Aro's heart skipped a beat again.
She bit her lip and looked up:
"I rescued her, and I'll take care of her."
The elder frowned:
"Ah Luo, you're an unmarried girl, taking care of a stranger. It won't sound good if word gets out."
A Luo clenched the hem of her clothes, but her face didn't show any fear:
"He's injured like this, if I don't take care of him, who will? I can't just abandon him."
The women nearby exchanged glances, and one of them laughed:
"Ah Luo is a kind-hearted girl."
Some people say:
"But this person's origins are unknown..."
Aro ignored them and only looked at the clan elder:
"Elder, let me take care of him. Once he wakes up, I can find out his background and then make some plans."
The elder pondered for a moment, then finally nodded:
"Alright then. Everyone knows you're kind-hearted. But if there's anything wrong with this person, you have to tell us immediately."
Aro nodded quickly.
Several men lifted the man up and carried him toward the small house where A'Luo lived.
Aro followed behind, her eyes never leaving that face.
She didn't know who he was, where he came from, or why he was injured and collapsed on the mountain.
All she knew was that just now, in the crowd, looking at his face, a voice inside her said—
This person cannot be ignored.
......
No one knew that the man had opened his eyes once before he lost consciousness.
He lay in the grass, his mind hazy, his body wracked with pain. He thought he was going to die, that he would die in this desolate wilderness, leaving no trace of his body.
Then he saw a figure.
It was blurry, like looking through a layer of mist. But he saw it—it was a girl, dressed in coarse cloth, carrying a small basket on her back.
Sunlight shone from behind her, giving her a faint golden hue.
He didn't know who it was.
But at that moment, his heart suddenly skipped a beat.
It's not a jump of pain, it's a different kind of jump.
He wanted to see her face clearly, but his eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and his consciousness grew fainter and fainter.
Then he knew nothing more.
......
At that moment, he was carried into that small house and placed on that simple bed.
A Luo stood by the bed, looking down at him.
Sunlight streamed in through the cracks in the window, illuminating his face.
She suddenly realized that he didn't seem so disheveled anymore.
She watched for a while, then turned around to fetch water.
At the entrance of the village, the clan elder was still standing there, looking in the direction of that small house.
The person next to me asked in a low voice:
"Elder, that person..."
The clan elder waved his hand:
"That girl, A-Luo, knows what she's doing."
He paused, then added:
"However, we need to find out where that person came from."
......
It was dark.
A Luo carried a basin of hot water and pushed open the door to her little house.
A small oil lamp was lit in the room, its flame flickering and illuminating the outline of the person on the bed.
He was still unconscious, his face still pale, but his breathing was more steady than during the day.
A Luo placed the basin beside the bed, wrung out a handkerchief, and gently wiped the bloodstains from his face.
As she wiped him, she realized that he was really good-looking.
He had sword-like eyebrows, a high nose, and thin lips; his features were as rugged as rocks in the mountains.
Even with his eyes closed, he exudes an indescribable heroic spirit.
After watching for a while, A Luo suddenly felt a little silly.
She shook her head, put down the handkerchief, and reached out to unbutton his shirt.
It's time to change the medication.
She had just unbuttoned the first button—
A hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
That hand was burning hot, yet its strength was astonishing.
A Luo was startled. She looked up and met a pair of eyes.
The person woke up.
He stared at her with his eyes open, his gaze filled with wariness, confusion, and a hint of... terror?
A Luo was stunned for a moment, and before she could react, she saw the man look down at his unbuttoned clothes, and then at her hand that was still resting on his chest.
His face suddenly turned red.
"What...what are you doing?!"
The voice was hoarse and weak, yet it carried a hint of panic.
A Luo blinked and then realized what he was thinking.
She looked at him speechlessly, then pointed to the medicine bowl and strip of cloth beside her:
"Changing the dressing. What did you think I was going to do?"
The Marquis was stunned.
He looked down at his open shirt, then at the medicine and strips of cloth, his panicked expression frozen on his face, as if struck by lightning.
When A Luo saw his appearance, she suddenly found it somewhat amusing.
She pulled her hand back, crossed her arms over her chest, and tilted her head to look at him:
"Why are you covering it up? I've already seen it all."
The Marquis's face turned even redder.
"What...what did you say?!"
A Luo looked completely innocent:
"I was saying, when I was wiping your face and hands, I also checked your wound. I saw everything, things I should and shouldn't have seen. Isn't it a bit too late for you to cover it now?"
The Marquis opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.
He looked at the girl in front of him—wearing coarse cloth clothes, her hair casually tied up, with a "what's the big deal?" expression on her face, looking at him as if he were an idiot.
In all his life, this was the first time someone had ever looked at him like that.
Moreover, he was the one who was seen naked.
"You...you woman..."
He hesitated for a long time before finally managing to utter this sentence.
Aro tilted her head:
"What's wrong with me?"
The Marquis took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
He looked down at his wound—it had indeed been treated and bandaged quite carefully.
He looked at the girl in front of him again, and his wariness was gradually replaced by another emotion.
"Did you...save me?"
Aro nodded:
"Otherwise what? Is there someone else in this house?"
The Marquis was silent for a moment, then suddenly remembered something:
"Where is this?"
"The Ten Thousand Mountains, Ginseng Harvesting Village".
