Regulus of Hogwarts: Lord of the Stars
Chapter 17: Is this even possible?
Narcissa's tone turned serious: "Bella already knows, and she will contact you soon, perhaps by letter, or perhaps in person at Hogwarts."
She will test you, evaluate you, and then decide whether to recommend you to that adult.
Regulus remained silent for a few seconds.
"So what's your suggestion?" he asked.
"Tone it down a bit, at least in public. You can show your talent, but not to that extent."
At Hogwarts, especially with a professor like Slughorn who loves to collect geniuses, your reputation will spread very quickly.
Whether your reputation reaches the ears of the wrong people or brings trouble or opportunity depends on your perspective.
"I've already restrained myself," Regulus thought to himself. "And this is exactly what I'm after, but it's still early."
Eleven years old is only suitable for being observed. Even Voldemort wouldn't let an eleven-year-old do anything. He's not an African warlord who needs child soldiers.
Narcissa's tone softened: "I'm not saying this to lecture you. You're smarter than me, Regulus."
I've known this since you were five, but intelligent people sometimes overestimate themselves and tend to ignore their surroundings.
Regulus nodded: "Thank you for reminding me, cousin, but I have my own considerations."
"I knew you'd say that," Narcissa sighed. "Fine, but remember, last night's events aren't over yet, and Travers won't let it go so easily."
He might not bother you personally, but he'll send someone else—someone from the upperclassmen, or one of his cronies—which is in accordance with Slytherin rules.
"I'm always welcome." Regulus's attitude was more casual when facing his cousin, with whom he was relatively close.
Narcissa stared at him for a long time, then suddenly laughed: "You know what?"
Sometimes I feel that you and Sirius are actually quite similar, not just in appearance, but in that reckless spirit deep down. He just used it for rebellion, while you use it for something else.
She turned to leave, but stopped: "There's one more thing, Lucius Malfoy, he's very interested in you—not that kind of interest."
If he wants to see you, remember to be polite and cautious.
Regulus nodded. "I know, your fiancé."
After saying that, she quickly left, the hem of her robe drawing an elegant arc on the stone floor.
Regulus turned and headed to the next classroom, History of Magic, Professor Binns's class, which would be the easiest one of the day.
......
The skies over the Scottish Highlands were crystal clear on Friday.
On the training lawn for flight lessons, twenty flying brooms are neatly arranged, each one old and with uneven branches, teaching tools accumulated by Hogwarts over many years.
Mrs. Hooch stood at the front of the line, her short gray hair and sharp eyes sweeping over each student.
"Alright, everyone stand to the left of the broom!" Her voice was loud and clear. "Extend your right hand, hovering above the broom, and say clearly, 'Get up!'"
The students did as instructed, and shouts of varying pitches echoed across the lawn.
"stand up!"
In the front row of the Gryffindor line, there was a red-haired boy with freckles all over his face. He was probably from the Weasley family; Regulus had seen him when he first enrolled, but Regulus hadn't bothered to remember his name.
He almost instantly let the broom jump into his palm, grinning triumphantly, which drew whispers from several Gryffindors nearby.
On Slytherin's side, Avery Cuthbert's broom rolled half a circle on the ground before reluctantly rising, and he clicked his tongue in annoyance.
Hermes Murseb tried twice, and on the second attempt, the broom suddenly sprang up, nearly hitting his chin.
Regulus lowered his gaze to the old sweeper at his feet.
"Get up." His voice was steady, without urging or hesitation.
The broom trembled slightly on the ground, hesitated for a second, and then fell into his outstretched palm.
"Very good!" Mrs. Hooch walked briskly between the two rows of people.
"Mr. Weasley, quick thinking! Now everyone listen up. When I count to three, gently push off the ground to raise the broom to a height of one foot off the ground, and then keep it suspended."
"Don't go above my shoulder! One, two... three!"
Chaos arrived as expected.
The sound of brooms whizzing through the air, the girl's exclamation, and the boys' defiant shouts mingled together.
At least four brooms went out of control and shot upwards. A Gryffindor girl screamed and clung to the broom handle, but was saved by Mrs. Hooch in time to slow down and lower her down.
Regulus, meanwhile, hovered steadily in the air, exactly one foot above the ground, without moving an inch.
His body was almost still, with only the hem of his black robe fluttering rhythmically in the cold wind.
"Merlin's beard, look at that Slytherin..." In the Gryffindor group, a tall, thin boy named Benji Fenwick whispered to his companion, "He's as steady as if he's glued to the sky."
Not far away, a brown-haired Gryffindor girl, Sarah Burns, also noticed the unusual situation.
Her own levitation was quite good, with slight swaying and undulation, like swaying in the wind.
But Regulus's steadiness was another matter entirely; there were no superfluous movements, and every shift of his center of gravity was so precise that it seemed he already knew the broom's next move.
"Look straight ahead, don't look down!" Madam Hooch shouted, tapping her wand to straighten several students who had started spinning.
"Now, try moving forward slowly!" Mrs. Hodge demonstrated a gentle pushing motion: "Feel the broom's response, as if it were a living companion!"
The line began to move clumsily, with most of the new students veering off course and moving at varying speeds.
Regulus glided forward about fifteen feet at a constant speed and along a straight path before turning left as instructed.
"Hmph, all pretentious!" A sturdy boy with dark hair and thick eyebrows grumbled in dissatisfaction from the Gryffindor group.
His broom was waving wildly from side to side, a stark contrast to Regulus's composure.
"He definitely controls the flight better, Alpha," the girl next to him said matter-of-factly.
"Standing still like logs!" Alphad raised his voice, deliberately letting the wind carry his words toward the Slytherin ranks. "Not moving an inch, as if they're afraid of falling! Flying takes courage!"
Several Gryffindors chuckled softly.
On Slytherin's side, Avery Cuthbert frowned, Hermes Moorseber gave Alphad a gloomy look, and Alex Rozier looked at Regulus with concern.
Regulus seemed not to hear.
Alfard Pwett's expression darkened further.
In the latter half of the course, Mrs. Hooch allowed the students to practice basic controls freely, while she went to instruct a few students who were particularly struggling. The training ground quickly dispersed into more than a dozen small groups.
Alphad deliberately steered his broom toward the vicinity of Slytherin, with his two friends following behind.
“So, Blake,” Alphad hovered a few feet away from Regulus, “does your family train people to ride brooms like statues? After all, you have to maintain a noble image.”
Avery immediately spurred his broom forward: "Watch your mouth, Pewter."
"I'm talking to Black, Cuthbert," Alfard said, raising his chin defiantly. "Or does he need someone else to speak for him?"
Regulus slowly turned his head, his gray eyes calmly looking at Alphad.
"Prewitt," his voice was low, "what are you trying to prove? Gryffindor courage? Or Prewitt's manners?"
"A Slytherin brat talking to me about manners?" Alphad's voice rose in anger.
Regulus simply watched him silently until his face flushed red, then slowly asked, "Do you?"
Alphad was enraged; he knew that if he didn't do something, he would become a laughingstock.
He suddenly drew his wand, and his two friends, Colin Macmillan and Gareth Diggory, immediately followed suit, pointing their wands toward Slytherin.
"Want to fight?" Avery Cuthbert drew his cane almost simultaneously, his face a mixture of wariness and excitement.
Hermes Murseb, his face grim, slid his wand into his hand and silently took a half-step forward with his broom, standing shoulder to shoulder with Avery.
Alex Rozier turned pale, hesitated for a moment, and then shakily raised his wand, though his aim was clearly at the empty space.
Alphad shouted, "Disarm you!"
Regulus pointed his wand and said, "Disarm you."
His incantation was faster and more solid, striking first despite being slower. The two red lights collided precisely in the air, exploding into a shower of sparks.
The disarming spells collide and cancel each other out.
"What?!" Not only Alphad, but all the students around him were stunned.
The disarming spell can be used like this?
