Regulus of Hogwarts: Lord of the Stars
Chapter 18: Can I change dorm rooms?
Further away, several Slytherins who had been practicing saw this scene and immediately gathered around, three, five, and more and more.
Alfard's expression changed, and his two friends, Colin and Gareth, exchanged a tense glance.
Just then, Regulus, with his back to all the Slytherin students, slowly raised his left hand.
With his palm raised and fingers joined, he made a perfectly clear stop gesture.
Avery paused for a moment, then lowered his raised wand without retracting it.
Hermes squinted, staring intently at Regulus's back, his wand still raised, the tip gradually shifting.
Alex breathed a sigh of relief.
The Slytherins who had surrounded them hesitated, their brooms hovering in mid-air, and they did not continue forward.
Regulus did not turn around; a subtle smile appeared on his lips.
Compliance test.
These Slytherin students, who were proud, gloomy, timid, and herd-like, now stopped at Regulus's command.
Getting them to obey as a group is not easy, but if one person stops, the others will follow.
This stemmed from the absolute domination of fifth-graders Travers on the first night of school, establishing a preliminary authority.
Seeing this, the Gryffindors who had also gathered around stopped moving forward, and everyone exchanged knowing glances.
"What's wrong, Blake?" Alphad asked, trying to sound calm. "Afraid your henchmen will embarrass you?"
"On the contrary," Regulus said doubtfully, "I'm afraid they'll act too quickly, and you won't have a chance to demonstrate your...courage?"
"Eliminate your weapon!" Alphad roared in fury, unleashing another burst of red light.
This time, Regulus didn't even chant a spell. He flicked his wand lightly, and a faint light struck the ribbon at the tip of Alphad's broom.
That's a repair spell, something you learn in the first year, used to repair stool legs or mend robes.
"Click." The straps suddenly tightened, and the front of the broom sank sharply downwards.
Alphad's disarming spell shot towards the ground as the broom suddenly dropped, blasting a small crater in the sand. He screamed and grabbed the broom handle to avoid being thrown off.
"A repair spell... a bandage?!" Gryffindor exclaimed in surprise.
"Exquisite!" Slytherin exclaimed.
Seeing this, Colin quickly stepped in to help: "Grinn wide!"
A silver light shone towards Regulus's side.
Regulus didn't even look, and pointed his wand to the lower left: "Clear Water Like a Spring."
Water sprayed onto the ground beneath Colin's broom, splashing everywhere and making the ground muddy.
The old broom still had wheels, but Colin's broom wheel got stuck in the mud, the whole broom jerked suddenly, and his spell went astray.
Gareth attempted a sneak attack from the other side: "Knock out!"
This time Regulus finally glanced at him, but only once.
He tapped his wand on the ground at Gareth's feet: "Burning Flames."
A small flame ignited on the dry turf.
Gareth's broom had a wicker base, which was very vulnerable to fire. He was so frightened that he quickly pulled it up, and the spell went astray again.
Three attacks from three directions, Regulus used three of the most basic spells, all aimed at the environment and the broom, which caused the opponent to lose balance and miss.
Once is a coincidence, twice is luck, but three times is an overwhelming difference in skill.
Alphad's face turned deathly pale. He had barely managed to steady the broom when Regulus's voice rang out: "Want to continue? Or do you want to demonstrate something else?"
The surrounding Slytherin students were stunned.
"He never attacked anyone..." a Slytherin girl whispered.
"It's all about sweeping and cleaning the floor," another boy muttered, "but that's more humiliating than hitting someone directly."
"The key point is that he used only the first thirty pages of 'Standard Spells: Beginner'!"
"I don't believe he can't do anything else."
Avery stared at Regulus's retreating figure, his eyes filled with complex emotions. He knew every spell, but he couldn't produce the same effect.
Hermes silently put away his wand, thoughtfully looking at the spots that had been precisely hit, each choice maximizing the effect while minimizing the cost.
"What are you doing?!" Madam Huoqi's angry roar finally rang out.
She stormed into the arena like a whirlwind, her face ashen as she surveyed the entire space: "Put down your wands! Now!"
Alphad and his two companions hurriedly put away their wands, jumped off their brooms, and were covered in sweat.
"Pewter! Macmillan! Diggory!" Mrs. Hodge shouted sternly, "Unauthorized use of spells during flight lesson! Students! Thirty points deducted from Gryffindor! Each of you will be confined for a week!"
"But Professor!" Alphad exclaimed urgently, "He used it too—"
"What did Black use?" Mrs. Hodge's sharp gaze turned to Regulus.
"Repairing Charm, Professor." Regulus looked directly at her, his gaze open and honest. "To reinforce the bandages; Water Charm to reduce dust on the ground; Fire Charm to prevent the ground from becoming slippery."
Lady Hooch stared at Regulus for a few seconds, then looked at the marks on the ground. The straps were indeed tightened, there was water on the ground, and the grass did show signs of burning.
"Pwett," she said coldly, "are you going to accuse Black of attacking you with a healing charm?"
A few suppressed snickers rang out from the surrounding area.
Alpha opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.
"Gryffindor loses another ten points for falsely accusing a classmate." Madam Hooch showed no mercy. "Now, everyone back to the castle!"
As the Slytherin students packed up their brooms and left, almost everyone who passed Regulus glanced at him.
Those eyes held surprise, awe, and recognition. Slytherins recognized power, but even more so, they recognized the wisdom in using power.
That evening, in the Slytherin common room.
The emerald green flames in the fireplace burned quietly, reflecting off the dark green curtains and silver decorations. The first-year students gathered in the sofa area, and the main topic of conversation was naturally the afternoon's events.
"Why won't you let us help?" one of the boys couldn't help but ask Regulus. "We outnumber them, we could easily—"
"What can?" Regulus interrupted him, looking up at everyone. "Can Gryffindor be given a reason to appeal?"
"Everyone gathers together to attack Gryffindor?"
He put down his quill and said in a low voice, "Slytherin has lost the House Cup for three years in a row. Every ten points can decide the final outcome. Is it worth losing dozens of points to the House?"
Several students remained silent.
The House of Descent is a special attack on Slytherin, and the younger the student, the more they care about it.
"Furthermore," Regulus continued, "your involvement will be a brawl. When Madam Hooch arrives, she'll see Slytherins attacking three Gryffindors, and now—"
"What she saw was three Gryffindors besieging a Slytherin, who didn't even fight back, but just repaired brooms, cleaned the ground and dried the turf."
Someone chuckled softly.
Regulus looked around and noticed that some older students were also looking in their direction, so he raised his voice.
"And the result?" He stood up, facing the entire common room: "Gryffindor lost forty points, Slytherin lost none, and the three Prewitts are in detention until next week."
He slightly raised his chin, his voice slightly impassioned: "And we have earned respect."
Madam Hooch saw Slytherin's restraint and discipline, while the other houses saw that provoking Slytherin would come at a price.
Prefect Lucretius Burke then came over and looked at all the younger students: "Impulsiveness, ganging up, point deductions, that's Gryffindor's way."
Slytherin craves victory, profit, and glory. Black demonstrated today how to maximize damage to the opponent within the rules while minimizing his own losses.
He turned to Regulus and said formally, "You've earned the Academy's respect and avoided a disastrous penalty. Well done, Blake."
Several older students nodded in agreement, while the younger students looked at Regulus with a mixture of admiration and envy.
Soon after enrolling, he gained public recognition from the class monitor and upperclassmen.
Regulus nodded slightly: "I simply made the choice that was in the best interest of the academy."
Back in his dorm room, Avery was writing his paper when he suddenly stopped and asked Regulus, "You did this on purpose, didn't you?"
Regulus cast a curious glance at him: "Deliberately what?"
Unlike some pure-blooded fools, Avery does think.
Hermes also looked up from his book and stared at Regulus, and he too noticed that something was amiss during the day.
Before Avery could answer, Regulus asked Hermes in a declarative tone, "You wish to cast a spell on me?"
Hermes' eyes narrowed slightly. He did have the thought at the time, but only for a moment.
How could they detect that? Are they trying to scam me?
He doesn't speak.
Avery squinted, looking back and forth between Regulus and Hermes.
Alex held his breath, trying not to attract attention.
Can I change dorm rooms?
This place is terrifying!
