American comics: Praising the sun, starting from Gotham!
Chapter 153 Gotham's skies have become tainted once again.
This isn't a no-go, it's a recommendation for the treasure book "American Comics: Praising the Sun Starting from Gotham!"
As the compressed biscuits crunched in his mouth, Xiu En let out a long sigh that sounded like his soul had been redeemed.
"This is the kind of food a normal person should eat."
He commented with a look of rapture, while tossing a dark, square object to the sunflower perched on his shoulder, which kept trying to poke his cheek with its leaves.
"It's not sweet, it's hard, and what exactly did Ah-Fu add to this flavor? I think if it were ground into powder, it could be used as my backup energy bar."
"Well, this isn't really normal food. It was a prototype ration developed for long-distance space travel, but the project was later canceled because the test pilots said it tasted like chewing some kind of radioactive soil."
Bruce was sitting on the sofa opposite him. The plane had entered the stratosphere, and outside the window was the bustling night view of the metropolis, which was gradually shrinking into dots of light.
"But after the sugar storm, the taste of soil is like a delicacy."
Xiu En bit off the half-eaten mud brick in his hand, and his eyes regained a little clarity. He finally remembered something he had deliberately forgotten.
Shouldn't we sign for it?
"That was just an excuse to take you away."
"Wait a minute, you're saying that's an excuse?"
He pointed out the window towards the ruins below, which were almost invisible.
"That was an entire Kryptonian warship! It had engines! It was made of metal! Seeing that thing being taken away by some other department made me feel a little uneasy."
"No one will take anything from you, Shuen."
On the tablet screen in Bruce's hand, countless dismantling plans and ownership transfer documents for the warship were scrolling rapidly.
Without exception, the senders were all Wayne Enterprises.
"Ah Fu completed all the legally required signing procedures ten minutes ago, and also, on your behalf, strongly rejected the Metropolitan City Hall's claim for compensation for urban light pollution. Some of those components will be delivered to Gotham's underground warehouse before dawn tomorrow."
Xiu En smiled awkwardly upon hearing this.
"So, just to get me out of that pink, hormone- and sugary room?"
Xiu En popped the last crumbs of biscuit into his mouth. Although he was complaining, his relaxed eyebrows betrayed his extreme comfort.
He had to admit that the feeling of watching others engage in a cross-species romance while he could only stand by as a third wheel was even more suffocating than facing the simulated gravity suppression of the Zod spaceship.
Especially that pie, it was too sweet, he couldn't stand it.
"As you can see, this is Clark's current condition."
Bruce put down his coffee cup.
"Although we won a battle, a beautiful one, even an incredible one, in the end, for many oddballs like you and me, a quarter of an hour of peace, undisturbed by the world, even if it's just filled with that tooth-aching sweetness, is a rare treat."
He looked at Xiu En, a hint of mockery in his eyes.
"Now that they've found their peace, I don't think high-functioning workaholics like us need to be third wheels. After all, if no one does the work, the world will still be in chaos tomorrow."
"Who are you calling a workaholic? I'm forced to work, okay?!"
Xiu En protested briefly, then slumped back into his seat in a very unladylike manner.
"Alright, considering how capable Ah Fu is, and that these cookies are really to my liking, I won't hold it against you this time."
He closed his eyes, and the little flower on his shoulder closed its petals as well, entering a mode that was called dormancy but was actually secretly laughing.
The plane sped towards the smoky, sinful Gotham City in the calm air currents.
……
The next day
Ah Fu was knocking on the door. Xiu En smelled the aroma of black tea, but he wanted to stay in bed a little longer.
Sunflower knew that Afu had arrived and tried to pry open his eyelids with its leaves, but Xiu En turned around.
Then Xiu En felt the suffocating sensation of the sun being blocked by a foreign object.
"Cough... What the hell is that?"
Xiu En, on his deathbed, was startled awake.
He walked to the French windows and pulled back the curtains.
It's not just gloom outside the window.
There was also a kind of ominous purplish-black mist, even more repulsive than the shadow cast by those Kryptonian ships in Metropolis yesterday.
From Shuen's perspective, it's as if someone poured a bucket of radioactive swill that was ten thousand years past its expiration date into Gotham's already filthy pot overnight.
"A curse, resentment, and that damned smell of sulfur..."
Xiu En frowned, running his fingers across the glass. His fingertips didn't pick up any dust, but instead hissed out a little black smoke, as if scorched by the holy light.
"Which inconsiderate villain is urinating and defecating in public?"
This time, he didn't hold back.
The golden crow's divine power surged within him due to the provocation of those filthy things.
If he shone in the Metropolis to save lives, now he's violently turning on the lights in this dim world purely because of his morning grumpiness.
As the altitude increased, the flames on Xiu En's body changed from bright yellow to blazing white.
The view above the clouds was even more terrifying than that on the ground.
Countless twisted, translucent tentacles, those not yet fully formed cursed aggregates, hovered above Gotham, greedily devouring the city's despair.
No wonder my throat felt itchy.
Xiu En snorted coldly, his body suddenly stopped in mid-air, and his arms were spread out.
The next second, the Sun God Fire erupted from him, unleashing a high-temperature tsunami that cleansed everything in its path.
There is no compassion, no discrimination, only the purest purification.
When the indescribable black energy came into contact with the golden light, it was directly reduced to the most basic harmless particles.
The originally thick, dark clouds were forcibly burned into a perfectly circular hole tens of kilometers in diameter, revealing a patch of incredibly clean, azure sky.
Thus, the citizens of Gotham witnessed once again the spectacle that should have disappeared.
The real sun, which should have struggled to show its face in the east for a while, had not yet fully risen, and the sky above the city was already so bright that it was impossible to open one's eyes.
Two suns.
One lazily prepares to check in on the horizon, while the other hangs violently overhead. Although its light looks sacred and solemn, only truly sensitive people can feel the anger contained within it.
In the basement, Bruce was awakened by the alarm. Looking at the off-the-charts radiation levels on the screen and the daytime-bright view outside the window, he silently lay back down on his pillow. He reached for the specially made sunglasses on the bedside table, put them on skillfully, and then turned over.
"Let him be... at least this time no public property was damaged."
