Guyver Armor: KAP-2

Chapter 27 Return, Unplanned Lay in the Dark

The morning mist had not yet dissipated the next day, and a damp breeze swirled and swept across the street corner.

After rushing back overnight, Tsubasa Kamino opened the door, quickly washed away her fatigue, changed into a clean shirt, and ate breakfast as usual, turning on the TV.

The television screen was showing the morning news, with the school entrance cordoned off by police tape and obvious signs of damage in the areas the camera panned across.

The anchor's serious voice came through the speaker:

"Yesterday afternoon at approximately 15:50 PM, terrorists carrying explosives attacked a high school in the city, causing damage to school facilities and injuring some teachers and students. Relevant departments have launched an investigation, and to ensure student safety, the school will be temporarily closed starting today..."

"Kronos's movements have quickened..." Tsubasa Kamino clenched his fist. He instantly realized that Akira Fukamachi and the others had been attacked by the Zoanoids once again.

This is a common tactic of the Kronos organization—using a fabricated "terrorist attack" to cover up the truth of the Zoanoid raid, manipulating public opinion, and cutting off the outside world's true understanding of the event.

After speaking with several teachers he knew and inquiring about the situation, Tsubasa Kamino got a general understanding of the current circumstances.

The school was temporarily closed, all students were dismissed, and the local education department also issued a gag order to all teachers. He could clearly sense the teachers' underlying unease during the call.

"That's terrifying control. I guess the administrative agencies here are already... However, the situation isn't too bad. Based on the information the teachers have gathered from each other, Fukamachi Akira and her group should have escaped the pursuit in the end."

After hastily eating a few bites of the cold toast, Tsubasa Kanno grabbed his backpack and headed out the door. Instead of heading towards the familiar school campus, he turned in the opposite direction—towards the residential area where Akira Fukamachi's family lived.

When we arrived at our destination, the morning light had just crept over the eaves of the traditional Japanese detached house. The doors and windows of the Fukamachi and Segawa houses were tightly locked, exuding a desolate atmosphere of emptiness.

He went around to the high platform at the back and looked into the Segawa family's house from the steps:

The living room was empty, with uncollected dishes scattered on the dining table and a glass of water still half full on the coffee table—clearly a hasty evacuation during dinner, yet there were no signs of fighting or damage.

The situation was similar at Fukamachi's house, and a sense of relief quietly crept into my heart.

His two previous rescues and the warnings he left behind finally paid off; they, along with their parents, were successfully evacuated.

However, the transfer distance seems to be a bit too far, exceeding the maximum distance for telepathic communication between the two.

Unconsciously, Tsubasa Kamino rubbed his forehead, his thoughts racing:

Since the attack by the Zoanoids failed to achieve its objective, the Kronos organization, especially Richard Geo, who has ulterior motives, will not let the matter rest.

The fact that Fukamachi Akira and his group were able to escape unscathed from such a large-scale attack suggests that Makijima Agito, the "traitor" who was thinking of overthrowing the organization at that moment, must have played a significant role in their success.

Therefore, as long as we keep an eye on the movements of Kronos and Makijima Agito, we will always have a chance to find Fukamachi Akira and the others again.

This would also allow them to further hinder the efforts of those in Japan who were trying to track down Kep's whereabouts.

More importantly, such a large-scale campus attack and signs of media manipulation would likely attract the attention of that man—Murakami Masaki, the man who is also seeking a way to combat the Kronos organization.

Having made up his mind, Tsubasa Kanno no longer hesitated, turned around and left the Fukamachi residential area, walking quickly towards the nearby station.

An hour later, he stood in front of an old apartment building near Max Pharmaceuticals, equipped with his gear. This apartment building, which offered a direct view of the pharmaceutical company's entrance, was undoubtedly the best surveillance point for observing the situation.

After paying a month's rent, Tsubasa Kamino lifted a corner of the curtain, revealing the Max Pharmaceutical Company logo clearly, as well as the vehicles and people coming and going.

"Let's start with you, Makijima Agito!"

Inside the Max Pharmaceuticals building, a researcher in a white lab coat strode into the laboratory and carefully placed a container on the control panel.

"Commander Geo, as per your orders, we conducted an emergency analysis of the KEP colony cells and successfully developed this special enzyme."

The researcher pressed the unlock button on the container, revealing a pale purple, viscous liquid inside.

"This enzyme can precisely target the biological cells of the KEP armor, causing the KEP's outer armor to disintegrate in a short time. However, it has a drawback—once exposed to air, its activity will rapidly diminish within ten seconds until it becomes ineffective."

"Therefore, as you requested, we have installed the enzyme-secreting glands into..."

He paused, then looked at the mixing chamber beside him: "Its claws and tail allow us to inject enzymes into the target's body through close combat methods such as biting with teeth and piercing with claws, ensuring that they can directly act on the KEP bio-suit itself."

Geo nodded slightly, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes. He looked at the giant incubation chamber standing beside him: "How much longer until it's ready?"

"At the fastest, it can be done by tomorrow morning. However, such a short-term, temporary adjustment will shorten its lifespan..."

The nutrient solution inside the cabin was murky and turbid, and a huge, ferocious figure with a mouth full of sharp teeth could be vaguely seen. That was none other than Makijima Genzo, the adoptive father of Makijima Jacto.

"It's alright, he's just a one-time test subject anyway. But you," Geo's gaze shifted to Makijima Agito standing beside him, a hint of amusement in his voice, "He's your adoptive father, after all. Seeing him suffer this execution-like ordeal, you're completely unmoved..."

The latter, dressed in a black school uniform, had no superfluous expression on his face, as if the one being tortured in the incubation chamber was an insignificant stranger.

"That man was never my father. He adopted me only because of my talent, wanting to mold me into a pawn to solidify his position in the organization."

Makijima Agito paused, his tone finally revealing his disgust: "To make me completely dependent on him, he even plotted to ruin my own father's company, forcing my family to be destroyed. From beginning to end, there was absolutely no father-son relationship between us."

"I see," Geo walked slowly to Makijima Agito's side and patted him on the shoulder. "I heard you went to the same high school as Fukamachi Akira and the others?"

Seeing Makijima Agito nod, he continued, "Then, you'll lead the next operation to capture Fukamachi Akira. Also..."

He pointed to the sleeping figure in the incubation chamber, a cold smile playing on his lips: "Take your 'adoptive father' with you. I think he will be your best 'weapon'."

After saying that, Geo turned and walked towards the laboratory exit, silently adding the next sentence in his mind: "So-called geniuses are ultimately just pawns in my game of controlling the world."
