Chapter 72 Ambush in the Woods

At night, the caravan remained parked by the roadside as it had been at midday. The caravan guards and adventurers set up simple traps in nearby secluded spots and took turns keeping watch.

"What kind of trap is this?" Lindsay asked a guard who was tying ropes and bells in a secluded patch of grass.

"I'm setting up a sound trap; it will make a crisp bell sound whenever something touches it, giving away their location."

"Broken Arrow" approached, carrying a torch: "Why didn't you set any traps, pitfalls, or stumbling blocks?"

"The traps and snares have been set up by others, and as for pitfalls, they are too strenuous and unnecessary."

Nothing happened overnight. The next day, as the sky glowed red and the white and red colors complemented each other, the convoy set off again.

In the afternoon, the convoy followed the dirt road and entered the forest.

Linsel looked at the lush trees on both sides of the road. Although it was late autumn, the trees were still verdant. This forest extended from the Twilight Forest.

I remember Kent mentioning during the break yesterday that the convoy would be passing through a dangerous wooded area the next day, and this should be it.

If someone wanted to rob a caravan, this forest would be the best ambush site compared to a relatively open field.

However, the convoy had no choice but to go through here, because if they wanted to reach Wind and City in two and a half days, they had to pass through here; otherwise, going around the forest would take five or six more days.

"Everyone, cheer up! Let's get through here quickly!" the caravan leader shouted.

Linsset had unloaded all his equipment and placed it in the carriage. He picked up the pulley crossbow and, along with "Broken Arrow," prepared to fire at any moment.

However, after the caravan drove through the woods for a while, nothing seemed to happen, except that flocks of birds would occasionally be startled by the passing carriages, adding a little noise to the quiet forest.

Just as Lindsay was feeling a bit bored and his attention was starting to wander, the carriage in front of him suddenly stopped.

"There's an ambush! It's goblins!"

Linsset slung his long-handled sword over his shoulder and jumped off the carriage. Looking ahead, he saw a thick, long vine stretching straight up and blocking the way for the convoy.

More than a dozen goblins jumped out from both sides of the woods, some of which were the large goblins that Linse had seen before in Linxi Village, those goblins that were close to human size.

Behind them was another old goblin holding a wooden staff.

Lindsay opened the panel.

Goblin Priest, Monster, Health: 40/40, Armor: 40/40 (Natural Grass Armor)

Goblin Priest? Sounds a bit weaker than a High Priest.

Including the large goblins that we didn't kill before, this makes two new types of monsters!

"Form ranks!"

The caravan leader, Kent, took out a Saxon cleaver, while the other caravan guards and adventurers, armed with daggers and shields, raised their shields to form a shield wall.

The goblins' evil laughter echoed around them. Linsel saw several goblins appear at the rear of the caravan, glaring at him menacingly.

Linssey aimed his crossbow at one of the approaching goblins.

With his left hand holding the crossbow and his right hand pulling the trigger, the bolt flew out and pierced the opponent's chest!

This newly bought pulley crossbow is really powerful!

The goblin, struck by an arrow, dropped his crude wooden stick and fell backward.

Stones flew out from the bushes ahead and struck the shield wall formed by the guards.

Kent, hiding behind the shield wall, shouted, "Protect our comrades! Those goblins will retreat if they're not confident!"

Seeing the giant goblin at the front fall to the ground and die, the three goblins behind did not retreat, but charged towards Linse.

"Be careful!"

"Broken Arrow" [Close-range Shot]: An arrow also pierced through the body of a charging goblin.

Linsel retreated to the side of the carriage, put down his crossbow, and took out the Brand sword. He took two steps forward and swung the long-handled sword at the goblins in front of him.

The two goblins who charged forward were dodging the close-range arrows of "Broken Arrow" and were caught off guard, so they were directly slashed by Linsel and killed with one sword.

"Come quick, help! Those goblins are raining down more and more pebbles!"

A Black Iron-level adventurer shouted, and Lindsay and "Broken Arrow" cleared out the goblins that were ambushing the caravan from behind, then ran a few steps forward.

At this moment, a rain of pebbles flew out from the front and sides of the convoy, hitting the shields, the carriages, and even the faces of some people, who cried out in pain.

My goodness, so many pebbles!

Linsel saw the goblin priest in the distance, waving its wooden staff incessantly as if calling out something. It seemed that the rain of pebbles was caused by it!

"We must take the initiative and move forward!"

The caravan leader, Kent, shouted again. At this moment, the guards and the Iron-ranked adventurers advanced side by side with their shields up, guarding against the stones coming from the left and right while moving towards the goblin priest.

The two guards inside the shield wall would occasionally stand up and fire rapidly at the nearby goblins using their shortbows.

Several goblins fell to the ground, wounded by arrows, but at the same time, more than a dozen goblins emerged from the bushes, charging toward the guards' shield wall with crude weapons.

There were originally only a dozen or so goblins, but now their numbers seem to be constantly increasing!

"If everyone just sits here slowly holding up their shields, when will we ever finish killing all these bastards?"

With a roar, the sword and shield adventurer emerged from within the shield wall and charged forward, enduring the rain of pebbles raining down on him. He headed straight for the goblin priest not far away.

"return!"

Kent shouted, but it was no use. The other side was determined to go, which was commendable, but a reckless charge was useless against the goblin priest.

"quack!!"

The goblin priest let out a strange cry, flicked his wooden staff, and suddenly a clump of vines appeared under the sword and shield adventurer's feet, binding his legs and throwing him to the ground.

Lindsay saw all of this. He hid behind the carriage, picked up the pulley crossbow again, and loaded it.

It's that vine attack again! To defeat these green-skinned guys, we have to take down their leader!

Linsel gestured to "Broken Arrow": "Kill the goblin leader first, that old goblin."

"Broken Arrow" understood, raised his longbow, appeared on the side of the carriage, and aimed at the goblin priest dozens of meters away.

An arrow flew out!

At that moment, Linsel's crossbow was also aimed at the goblin priest on the right side of the carriage. He was a beat slower in firing, and the crossbow bolt flew towards the enemy as well.

An arrow and a crossbow bolt pierced the goblin high priest together; the former pierced his chest, and the latter his head.

Lindsay was overjoyed to see his opponent shot dead on the ground.
