Chapter 021: Wild Boar's Nest
"It even has GG mixed in?" Loran thought to himself.
However, it's understandable. As the organizer of the hunting commission, it's quite normal for them to earn some extra money or tips.
Loran and his two companions went to the village to enjoy a free lunch reimbursed by the nobleman Warren.
Of course, lunch wasn't very lavish; it was just a few pieces of dark bread and some vegetable soup.
However, adventurers will choose to treat themselves to extra meals as appropriate.
For example, if the adventurers hunted a lot of wild rabbits this morning, they can ask the villagers to help cook them.
Lin Wen's team also submitted three wild rabbits, which the villagers helped to cook and roast before serving.
Looking at the roasted and fragrant wild rabbit in front of her, Loran couldn't help but wonder why the rabbit's two legs were missing.
After searching through the original owner's memories, it turned out that this was a local custom where villagers would help roast the rabbit, and after the roasting was completed, the villagers who helped would take two rabbit legs as payment for their help.
The adventurers, having reaped a bounty of rabbits, naturally wouldn't care about having two legs, since there were plenty more to go.
"Come on, one for each of you!" Lin Wen said with a grin, distributing the rabbits so that everyone would get one.
The roasted rabbit in Loran's hand looked slightly larger.
That wasn't all; Lin Wen also tossed a dead rabbit to Brian as a reward.
As for why it wasn't properly grilled? In Lin Wen's memory, didn't dogs all eat raw food?
Brian sniffed, licked the fur of the dead rabbit in front of him, finding it tasteless, and stared longingly at the three people who were eating heartily.
"Brian doesn't seem to like eating raw food, how about we bake one for him too?" Loran suggested, noticing the pitiful-looking Brian.
"Oh?" Lin Wen looked at Brian suspiciously, and found that it was true. She scratched her head a little embarrassedly, "Sorry, I thought dogs preferred raw or fishy food."
Lin Wen tore off a rabbit leg and handed it to Brian. "Here, you eat this first, I'll go bake you some more!"
Carrying the rabbit from the ground, Lin Wen went to find the villagers to continue cooking it.
Noah, sitting across from Loran at the table, had removed his leather armor, revealing his thick, bare arms. The wounds on his arms were clearly visible; although they had healed, they left indelible scars.
"Noah, is it because of the injury on your arm that you're taking a break?" Loran asked.
Now that he had the chance to talk to this guy, he wanted to find flaws in his words to verify his suspicions.
Noah, who was eating roasted rabbit, paused and said with a helpless smile, "That's right, I was accidentally scratched when I was facing the demon wolf."
"Your sword is so big, and you have teammates, how could you be injured by a demonic wolf? Was it a very special demonic wolf?" Loran immediately questioned.
Noah shook his head. "They weren't special demon wolves, just ordinary ones, but there were a lot of them. They surrounded me, and I charged at them to break free."
Loran seemed thoughtful. "Wait, you mean you were surrounded by wolves all by yourself?"
"Yes."
"Are you risking going out alone? Where are your teammates? Didn't you used to have an adventurer's party?"
Noah paused for a moment, then sighed, "We had been out for a long time at that time. The mages in our group didn't have enough magic power, and the rangers had run out of arrows. Only I could still fight, so I let them leave first."
Lorraine frowned. "You let them leave?! Didn't you consider that you might end up as a snack for the wolves?"
"Perhaps it's confidence, I can't say for sure," Noah said with a faint smile.
Loran scoffed inwardly. This big guy in front of him was full of lies and definitely didn't tell the truth. He would never believe him.
Lin Wen handed over the roast chicken and returned to the table. Looking at the two of them, she asked, "What are your plans for this afternoon?"
"I'm fine with anything," Noah smiled slightly.
Loran thought about it for a moment. He figured that most people would be looking for wild boars, and more people meant greater security.
If Noah were to go to the farmland to catch those ground rats, it might give him an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
"Let's go catch wild boars, there's plenty of money," Loran suggested. After all, wild boars are so rare, and they might not even be able to find any.
Lin Wen nodded in agreement, "Great! That's what I was thinking too. Killing just one wild boar can make up for most of our harvest this morning! In that case, let's go find the wild boar's den this afternoon!"
.....
After lunch and a short rest, the adventurers got busy.
Lin Wen walked through the woods with a piece of paper in his hand, on which were written some clues about the wild boar's den.
"Please note the damaged bushes...watch out for footprints on the ground; nests often appear in tree holes or rock crevices," Lin Wen muttered to the contents of the paper.
Loran, on the other hand, focused his attention on Noah. This kid had been pretending all morning, and it was about time he would show his true colors in the afternoon. Loran had to be on guard.
While examining the clues, Lin Wen suddenly noticed a damaged bush in front of him. He blinked, walked over to take a look, and then discovered footprints on the ground—pig hoof prints!
"Hush bushes, footprints..."
Lin Wen continued to follow the footprints as he searched.
Loran, who was wary of Noah, was completely unaware of anything and mechanically followed Lin Wen.
"Hey! There's a cave ahead... could this be the wild boar's den?" Lin Wen exclaimed in surprise as he saw the footprints leading to a cave in the mountainside ahead.
Loran also came to his senses and looked at the cave in front of him, somewhat bewildered. What was going on? Weren't wild boars rare and their nests hard to find?
"Great! Let's lure the wild boar out and then kill it!" Noah said happily.
Only Loran looked grave. This was bad; dealing with wild boars would take some effort, and if Noah tried to sabotage them during the process, things would get very bad...
However, the next moment, a lazy little wild boar leisurely walked out of the burrow, grunting and snorting. When it saw Loran and his group, its eyes widened, and it seemed to be angry.
"Hey, they've come to us of their own accord! Let's go!" Lin Wen shouted, grabbing his dagger and charging forward.
Noah also swung his greatsword and charged forward.
Loran was dumbfounded. Well, he had no choice but to deal with the wild boar first!
The wild boar that charged out, perhaps due to its youthful vigor, showed no fear whatsoever upon seeing Loran and his companions, and charged straight at them with a ferocious charge.
Lin Wen certainly wouldn't confront this guy head-on. Instead, he flashed away, and the wild boar's target became Noah.
Noah swung his greatsword, having been waiting for a long time!
