Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 040: The Timid Thompson

After saying goodbye to Finita, Loran returned to his small inn.

This time, he didn't bother to hide his whereabouts anymore; he openly booked whichever room was available and stayed there.

Although he now had some money and could have bought a better hotel, Loran thought the small room was actually quite nice.

More importantly, Loran was exhausted today and just wanted to find a place to rest; he didn't have the energy to look for other hotels.

Time flew by and it was the next day. After having lunch, Loran began to consolidate what he had learned the day before. When it was almost time, he went to the training camp for training.

Finita continued to attempt spellcasting, Brian continued to train his physical abilities, and Loran gained more new knowledge about rangers.

"The selection of arrows is a skill that an excellent archer needs to master. Different arrows have different structures and are used in different scenarios."

"For example, inserting an obstruction into the arrowhead can prevent the arrow from piercing small prey, ensuring the integrity of the meat; iron arrowheads with a wider middle section are used against wild boars to inflict maximum damage; and barbed arrows are used against fast-moving prey, as fleeing will accelerate their blood loss..."

Lena explained calmly, "As for the arrowheads, it's best to use iron ones, because if you're doing a mission of bronze level or higher, many of the enemies you encounter won't be able to deal effective damage with stone arrowheads."

"As for iron arrowheads, the quality also depends on the blacksmith's skill; a fine arrowhead can often bring out the archer's full strength."

Loran listened attentively and asked a question at the opportune moment: "Instructor, what material should I use to properly poison the arrowheads?"

Upon hearing this, Lena replied seriously, "Under normal circumstances, I don't recommend using poisoned arrows. Although they can indeed kill prey effectively, they may waste the overall value of the prey."

"The powerful toxins that can adhere to the arrowheads often penetrate the entire body of the prey after it is killed, which means that the edibility of the prey is questionable."

"So if your purpose is hunting and trading, I don't recommend using poisoned arrows, but if you're dealing with monsters like goblins, poisoned arrows are a good choice."

"As for the selection of poisoning materials, I'll list them for you one by one; you can take notes..."

It must be said that this instructor, Lena, has a very broad knowledge base and knows a lot about various things, especially in the field of rangers, where she is quite proficient.

Loran filled in the gaps in the original owner's memories, and these skills and knowledge would be valuable assets on his adventure.

After training, Loran dragged his tired body to Thompson's antique shop, still mindful of his business.

"Hey, you look exhausted. Have you successfully found a mentor to train with?" Thompson greeted him with a grin.

Loran nodded and said gratefully, "Yes, I have to thank you for that too. That ranger mentor is really skilled."

Thompson snorted twice. "Of course. I gave Juno more than just the money I paid back; I have plenty left over. If she dares to fob me off, I won't let her get away with it."

"Hehe, I'm here to inform you about Mrs. Juno's matter," Lorraine said with a chuckle.

Thompson raised an eyelid and asked curiously, "Oh? Juno's matter? What could possibly be wrong with her?"

"Mrs. Juno asked me to pass on a message to you. She would like to invite you to dinner at the Water Tavern in that manor. She invites you to dine there."

Thompson stared wide-eyed, incredulous. "What did you say? Juno invited me to dinner?! Are you kidding me... Why would she invite me?"

Lorraine interrupted Thompson in time, looking at him with a smile.

"I'm telling you, old man, even if I'm being blunt, if Brian saw a female dog he liked, he wouldn't hesitate to show off. But you, looking so insecure, Mrs. Juno likes your charm, not your looks. Do you understand?"

Thompson said somewhat hesitantly, "But, I don't want to be held back because of me..."

"Stop, stop, stop, Thompson, do you think you two are still young? When you were young, you said you didn't want to hold someone back, and I didn't care. Now you're almost in your grave, and you're still saying you don't want to hold someone back? Stop making excuses, just tell me if you're going or not!"

"If you don't go, I'll expose your selling counterfeit goods!" Loran didn't care about anything else and directly used her trump card.

"You, you, you brat, why do you always mess with an old man like me?! I... this, this, this!" Thompson, who was usually quite eloquent, was unable to utter a complete sentence at this moment.

Loran was pleased with this and waved his hand, saying, "Then I'll take that as a yes. I'll come to help you tomorrow, so don't be nervous!"

Thompson watched Lorraine's retreating figure, his heart filled with complex emotions. At his age, he felt helpless, like a child.

Loran stretched on the way. "Brian, getting ready to go back and get some sleep?"

"Woof~" Brian's ears drooped, looking exhausted.

However, as Loran passed by the Adventurers' Guild Square, he found it unusually lively.

With the mindset of a bystander, Loran naturally wouldn't miss out on this spectacle.

After squeezing into the crowd with Brian, Loran finally understood what everyone was looking at.

That was a handsome half-elf man with flowing blond hair. Who else could it be but Elfin?

Elfin sat quietly by the fountain, waiting, while several people dragged the carcass of a huge mutant mountain boar and communicated with the adventurers' guild.

It looks like they're communicating the situation, but actually they're letting Erfen subtly show off.

Everyone could see the carcass of the wild boar, and almost everyone in the town knew about the Luoxi Village incident that had been making headlines for the past few days.

With the evidence now presented, the identity of this half-elf ranger who had been missing for some time can be considered basically confirmed.

After disappearing for a period of time, he made a powerful comeback, killing the mutant mountain boars and saving the village from disaster. Such an image is still too explosive for Rockfall Town at present.

The onlookers kept whispering among themselves, speculating about what Elfin had been doing during his disappearance.

"Granado Espada abandoned Elfin before, so Elfin definitely won't return to Granado Espada now."

"Hey bro, you're too late. Elfin just said he won't be joining the Blade of Excellence team anymore."

In short, Elfin's return undoubtedly makes him a popular choice for adventurers. An archer who can use magic is a huge boost to the combat power of any team!
