Chapter 092: Heading to Clam Town
After tidying up the treetops a bit, I leaned against the trunk and rested to recover my strength.
The team members took turns keeping watch at night, as they needed enough energy to set off back to Rockfall Town during the day.
As for what happened in Daotian Village, they could no longer care. It was already quite good that they could bring the information back to Luoyan Town.
The soft morning light shone on everyone's faces; the sky had brightened.
After a short while, everyone regained their senses, but their situation was still not safe.
"Where do we go next? Back to Rockfall Town?" Finita asked curiously.
Lin Wen hesitated for a moment, then finally said, "We don't have a carriage right now. If we try to walk back, it will probably take a very long time, and we're in very poor condition..."
Loran shrugged and said helplessly, "Yeah, I don't even have any arrows left. You guys don't mind sleeping a little longer, do you? I need to make some wooden arrows to be able to fight."
"We'll help you gather materials! As for what to do next, we can't go to the surrounding villages because their defenses are limited, and we might encounter danger again. We can go to the nearby town—Clam Town."
Lin Wen suggested.
"I think it's feasible. Clamshell Town is still a town, and there are just as many adventurers there as in Rockfall Town. At least they have enough ability to fight back against such a disaster. We can go there to take refuge first!" Finita agreed.
"Alright, it's decided then. Let's all help Loran gather the materials to make the bow and arrow."
"Thank you everyone."
The group climbed down the tree and began to help Loran find materials. The materials were simple: some usable tree branches would suffice.
Lacking adhesives and other materials in the wild, making iron arrowheads was simply wishful thinking; they could only make do with the most primitive wooden arrowheads.
Loran gathered the branches, selected some of suitable thickness, sharpened the tips with a dagger, and then used bark to make makeshift tail feathers.
Arrows made in this way are of disastrous quality, and will suffer fatal consequences such as insufficient power and deviation during use.
Fortunately, Loran has skills that can slightly improve the situation, making it quite good as a temporary solution.
With everyone's help, they quickly made more than thirty wooden arrows, enough for the rest of the journey.
"Alright, let's go!" Lin Wen said enthusiastically. She took out a compass from her clothes, recalled the location on the map in her mind, and began to lead the way.
It has to be said that Lin Wen is a very responsible captain. He takes care of everything, big and small. Luo Lan and the others don't need to worry about map locations or transportation issues, as Lin Wen has taken care of them all.
If it were Loran, who had only recently transmigrated, he knew he definitely wouldn't be able to take care of everything in this other world.
Loran was somewhat confused by the fact that he could determine direction using a compass. He only knew how to use the sun to find his way, and if there was no sun... well, he was doomed.
Therefore, he was very fortunate to have such a competent captain.
Lin Wen led the way while listening to the sounds around him; heaven knows exactly where the monsters' territory was located.
If, after finally escaping, you accidentally stumble into the monsters' lair, then you're in big trouble.
"Halo Town isn't far, but that's relative. It will still take us quite a while to walk there, at least 5 hours, and that's without taking any detours. Everyone, be prepared. We'll try to arrive in Halo Town this afternoon to avoid any unforeseen complications," Lin Wen said calmly.
No one objected. In this dangerous and unpredictable wilderness, no one could get a good night's sleep. Only when they reached the town could they finally rest in peace.
Five hours is a short time in a carriage, but it's a completely different story on foot. Not only does it require physical exertion, but you also have to be wary of dangers.
"I didn't feel anything when I was hiking with the hunting team before, it even felt like a picnic in the forest. But now that we're in different situations, it's just too much to bear," Lin Wen complained. "What do you think, Loran?"
"Yeah, I'm terrified that some weirdo will suddenly jump out from the roadside... You guys are alright, this stupid dog is too heavy!" Loran said wearily.
Behind him, a large white dog lay fast asleep on a huge piece of tree bark.
Yes, it's still that drag-and-drop device, and that familiar dog. Loran is so glad he mastered this skill when he first arrived.
Otherwise, carrying such a heavy dog the whole way would be too grueling.
"Hehe, why don't you ask Noah to help you stall? Is it that hard to just talk?" Lin Wen snorted.
Noah was taken aback and noticed that Loran was covered in sweat. He quickly said, "Loran, how about I help you drag it?"
Loran waved his hands repeatedly, "No, no, Noah is the strongest force in our team right now. We can't waste our strength. I don't even have enough arrows right now. Let me handle this dog-dragging task myself."
Finita stepped forward to help Loran pull the rope. "Let me help you pull it. I'm mainly using my energy, so it's okay if I help you with some of the effort."
"Well... thank you very much," Loran said somewhat shyly.
Lin Wen pursed her lips and lectured, "We are a team. Teams should help each other. You see, it's not that difficult to ask for help. Everyone is willing to help you. Don't always carry things on your own."
"Did Knight Com hide something inside the fortress before? Did you notice something? And when he was escaping, you shot an arrow to trigger Finita's trap, hindering him and also helping us share the firepower."
"What you did was all correct, but there are limits to what a person can consider. Although we all had a general idea of some of the details, if you had told us about these things back then, we might have been able to think of what Com had done."
Lin Wen added earnestly, "I didn't mean to blame you! In fact, you did a great job, it's just... I think you could have done even better!"
"Because you always seem preoccupied and reluctant to talk about many things, I think you could do better in sharing. We'd all be happy to help you!"
"And Finita, Noah, the same goes for you! As the captain, I need to emphasize the importance of teamwork to you all, so that our team will get better and better!"
Upon hearing Lin Wen's sudden remark, Luo Lan also fell into thought.
As someone in the thick of it, he naturally couldn't see himself clearly. Just as Lin Wen said, he had too many things on his mind... and many things that he couldn't share.
This also led to his habitual way of thinking, always accustomed to taking on everything alone.
But he is now in a team, a very loving team.
"Yes, Linwen, you're absolutely right. I might not be able to notice some of my shortcomings. Thank you for reminding me. I'll pay attention to that in the future," Loran said sincerely.
"We'll be careful too!"
"Okay, let's all do our best!"
