Chapter 134: The Power of Runes
Loran felt the vines tightening around him, and he was filled with resentment. He wanted to use the Grim Reaper's Scythe again, but he couldn't, because he couldn't get close to Feuer at all.
Even if he really gets close to Feu, as a goblin shaman, his mental strength may not be lower than his, and it seems to have become a dead end.
Just then, Feuer saw the same golden rain of arrows falling from the sky as that day in the direction of Rockfall Town, but this time he remained unmoved.
"Last time, I went to find that troublesome elven ranger and missed my chance, but this time, I will witness your deaths with my own eyes!" Feu sneered, tightening the vines and enjoying the despair of seeing everyone die in despair.
Thompson's face flushed red as he looked at Juno, whose expression was also gradually turning pale. He felt a deep sense of regret...
He has wronged many people in his life, and perhaps the one he wronged the most was Juno. He went further and further down the path of studying runes, but never cared about Juno's feelings.
He always said he hoped Juno could find someone better than him, but he never wanted to be the person he was talking about; he just kept running away.
Thompson looked at the unconscious Brian, the dog favored by the runes, who seemed to have lost all its luck at this moment...
A long-suppressed emotion slowly welled up within Thompson, his mind flashing back to moments in the laboratory... He recalled the explosion, the vanished runes...
By the way, runes don't just disappear for no reason. Just like Brian, who unintentionally mastered the power of runes but couldn't find the correct way to use them.
Perhaps he has mastered the power of runes since that explosion, but he just hasn't found the key to unlock that rune yet!
I heard from Loran that Brian would unleash the power of the runes at crucial moments. Logically, the power of the runes should be unleashed in life-or-death situations... but why is that?
In just a few seconds, countless thoughts flashed through Thompson's mind, until he felt his brain starting to feel oxygen-deprived, and scenes from the past flashed before his eyes... as if in a fleeting moment.
If runes are useless, why did ancient tribes carve such totems?
If runes cannot be activated in life-or-death situations, how did the ancients activate these totems?
Why can Brian occasionally unleash the power of the runes, but he can't...?
Thompson seemed to have found the difference between him and Brian... He had been a loner all these years, and even though he had feelings for Juno, he kept them to himself.
It just so happens that the ancient people were a group that valued tribal consciousness very much. They helped each other and cooperated in a division of labor, because only in this way could they survive in the harsh environment.
Brian's emotions are pure, and he has a deep connection with his fellow adventurers...
At this moment, Thompson's closed heart slowly opened. He had shut down most of his channels for emotional capture because of his research on runes, ignoring his true needs. Perhaps he was incomplete before.
But now... Thompson suddenly opened his eyes. He looked at Juno, who was already struggling to hold on. He was struggling with all his might, and even the strong vines could not control Thompson for a while.
Feuer was also slightly surprised. He quickly increased the intensity of his magic in an attempt to annihilate this uncertain factor.
But the next moment.
"Boom!" A dazzling explosion occurred right next to Thompson, and the resilient vines were shattered into thin strands.
Smoke and dust billowed up!
Feuer was taken aback and activated his staff again, causing a new swarm of vines to sprout, attempting to control the situation.
Unexpectedly, magical arrows flew out from the smoke, and a blazing fireball also flew out at this moment, smashing into the many vines.
Flames climbed up the vines, constantly scorching and slowing down their secondary growth.
"Hmph, a futile effort!" Feu conjured a barrier to block the magical arrows flying towards him. Although these arrows were powerful, they were useless against his powerful magic.
At the same time, footsteps sounded behind Feuer; it was Feuer's squad, a large group of muscular goblins charging towards them.
Thompson gently placed Juno on the ground. Dressed entirely in black, he picked up the scattered papers with rune patterns engraved on them.
"I understand now. It was because the ancients had the belief in protecting their tribe that they were able to activate the runes..." Thompson picked up the pile of papers and rushed out.
Feuer was busy dealing with the attack from Loran and his group and did not notice the sudden appearance of the short old man.
Thompson arrived near Feuer and casually tossed a large pile of papers over, sending them flying everywhere!
The only scene that Freud could still remember was seeing the runes carved on those papers. He had seen these symbols before; they were useless things that a group of scholars liked to study.
He couldn't help but feel a touch of mockery towards those ignorant scholars, but then he turned his thoughts back to the current battle, wondering how to crush these ants more efficiently.
The next moment...
Thompson's body emitted a red aura, and at the same time, the runes on the yellowed blueprints he threw out also emitted a red aura!
"boom!"
A series of violent explosions occurred around Feuer, and the power of the explosions instantly engulfed him.
Those sheets of paper, marked with simple symbols, suddenly transformed into deadly explosives, instantly killing the arrogant goblin shaman.
Not only that, after Thompson finished doing all this, he rushed into the goblin squad that had come to their aid, and sheets of paper flew out.
"BOOM! BOOM!" Explosions rang out continuously. The group of unlucky goblins who came to help were blown into the air by Thompson's sheets of paper and all died on the spot.
Smoke and dust filled the entire area. Loran and the others stared in disbelief at the scene. A small figure slowly emerged from the smoke and dust; it was none other than Thompson, covered in dust.
Thompson let out a long breath, shook his head to shake off the dust, and was about to say something when his body went limp and collapsed, but the smile on his lips remained.
"Thompman!"
Seeing this, the others rushed forward to help, carrying Thompson over, while Loran looked in the direction where Feuer had been.
After the smoke cleared, the once arrogant goblin shaman was blown beyond recognition, to the point that even if pieced together, it would be difficult to reconstruct.
Loran's eyes were filled with shock. Others might not understand how Thompson could unleash such power, but he did.
This is the power of runes.
