Archer's Adventure Manual
Chapter 138: The Control of the Dream Cult
"Hey, this is where you work." Rod pushed open the factory door, and what came into view was a row of individual small rooms.
Rod casually showed a room where a person was fast asleep.
"What...who is this?" Loran pointed to the guy who was fast asleep.
"He is currently experiencing all sorts of things in the real world, and these experiences will be transformed into memory fragments under the influence of our equipment." Rhodes pointed to the special equipment on the wall.
It was a disc, which was slowly rotating, and it looked quite magical.
"He's experiencing all sorts of things in the real world... so if all his memory fragments are gone, how can he ensure the continuity of his life in the real world?"
"Of course you don't need to worry about that. The memory fragments we extract will retain some useful memories, enough to maintain basic life in the real world. So you in the real world might just have a little bit of forgetfulness," Rhodes said with a smile.
"Furthermore, given how painful the real world is, wouldn't it be better to have fewer of these memories? If you have a need, we can help you retrieve fragments of your past memories; we'll only charge a small processing fee!"
Loran looked at Rhodes with suspicion. "Don't you say that no one can guarantee the safety of this kind of operation?"
"Of course, that refers to some unscrupulous dream tailors. Our factory is legitimate! You can ask around about our reputation locally; there are absolutely no bad reviews!" Rod patted his chest and assured them.
"Maybe you've taken care of all the bad reviews..." Loran muttered to himself, not believing the guy's nonsense at all.
However, coming to this dream factory gave Loran a completely new understanding of this dream city.
He also roughly understood some of the operating logic of Dream City as a "city" in the secular sense.
The hard currency in the city is the fragments of memories of people who come to this dream city, or things that these people have value and can be used, such as their souls.
However, Loran still doesn't know how these people in Dream City came to be, but there is probably a huge organization behind them.
Perhaps the information obtained from Thompson is related to the legendary Dream Cult, which puts many people into a deep sleep, trapped in a dream from which they cannot escape.
However, it now appears that besides trapping people in a dream world, this place is also exploiting people's control over the real world to obtain fragments of memories they have obtained from reality.
This is likely a channel used by the followers of the Dream Cult to obtain information from the outside world...
Rhodes is probably just a middleman who uses technology to generate revenue and ultimately uses that revenue to benefit himself.
"So, have you thought it through? If you're ready, you can start working today. Then, your dream of making your mark in your dream world will no longer be just a pipe dream!" Rod rubbed his hands together and asked with anticipation.
Loran looked troubled, pondered for a long time, and finally said with a troubled expression, "Hmm...it actually sounds pretty good, but I haven't thought about it yet. I'll give you an answer in a few days!"
Rod paused, "No, haven't you thought it through? Want to wait a few more days? Oh, there's really no need to think about this too much. The sooner you get into the industry, the more sought-after you'll be!"
However, he couldn't persuade Loran in the end, and Rhodes didn't use any violent means to make Loran submit, perhaps because of the unique rules here.
Loran thus safely left the dream factory, listening to the sounds coming from inside the factory buildings before he left.
Hmm... there are many people, I wonder how many are in this dream city. No wonder there are so few people on the streets; perhaps they're all busy working in the factories...
This also means that many people in the real world may be in a state of being half-dead, and they may believe that the dream world they return to at night is their true home.
In reality, surviving might just be a job task completed in the dream factory, simply to make life in the dream world a little more exciting.
The more Loran thought about it, the more he felt that this logic was a little strange... He seemed to have seen it somewhere before, but he couldn't remember where.
Loran's consciousness gradually returned to the relatively prosperous city of Plassen, a world that was both a fabrication and incredibly real.
No one knows what Loran did in that instant, that he came into contact with something that these dream-generated beings could never access in their entire lives.
Loran felt a strange sense of superiority flowing through his heart, similar to how he felt when he first obtained the Adventure Manual.
Perhaps this is precisely what makes dreams so captivating—a place where one can freely cheat their way through life. In dreams, as long as one is willing to pay the price of fragmented memories or other sacrifices, everyone can obtain a script as exhilarating as a fantasy novel...
As dawn broke, the dream faded, and Loran woke up. They were still on their way to Plassen.
"Let's go! Let's continue! According to my estimate, it might take us another seven days to reach Plassen." Lin Wen gave a somewhat ominous prediction.
Upon hearing this, Finita almost lost her balance. "Ah...it's still so far!"
.......
In Rockfall Town, Elfin has become a leader-like figure in a small group of adventurers. He possesses great strength and charisma, and has gained the recognition of most people.
"Friends, we are now besieged in the town, with no way to contact the outside world. The strongest military support in the vicinity is far away in the capital city of Plassen! Asking them to send adventurers to our aid is tantamount to waiting for death!"
"The food supplies in Rockfall Town will be completely depleted, and our bodies will collapse from malnutrition. Friends, as brave adventurers, would you rather die of hunger, or would you rather charge out with me and fight for a chance to survive? The monsters are not as powerful as we imagine!"
Elfin gathered the adventurers in the small square, continuously delivering inspiring and rousing speeches that stirred the blood of the listeners.
As hot-blooded adventurers, they naturally chose the latter, raising their weapons and shouting, "Charge out and kill those monsters!"
After Baron Warren had somewhat stabilized the situation in the town, he naturally heard about Elfin's speech in the square, and a sense of unease crept into his heart.
The reason why Rockfall Town is still able to maintain a stable situation is largely because, in addition to the lord's private army, there are also a large number of adventurers in the town.
Adventurers had to fight monsters to survive, but now they are about to escape.
Adventurers naturally want to go to safer places, but Baron Warren can't. His roots are in Rockfall, and if he leaves, it means he's abandoning everything...
He would fall into poverty and become a destitute nobleman, subjected to the cold indifference of his peers...
"We can't let this happen. We have to talk to Elfin! We must stall until we get Plassen's aid!" Baron Warren sneered.
