Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 140: The Tavern of Yesteryear

Loran and his companions presented their adventurer credentials, which were verified by the guild to be valid.

This also confirms the identities of Loran and his companions; they are indeed survivors who escaped from Rockfall.

Then, Plasson's side began the formalities, questioning Loran and the others about the situation at the time and carefully learning about the current situation in Rockfall.

After doing all this, Loran and his group were settled in a not-so-quiet neighborhood in Plassen.

Fortunately, they had a temporary place to stay, and the rent was waived for the time being, so the pressure on Loran and the others wasn't too great.

Looking at the neighborhood, Thompson said with some emotion, "I remember this place used to be an undeveloped and impoverished area. I never imagined that so many houses would have been built here."

"Everyone must be tired from the journey. We're safe now, so let's all get some rest!"

"Okay, let's take a break!"

...

Exhausted, everyone began to catch up on sleep. The high pressure of the past few days had left them breathless, and they needed sufficient rest to recover.

As Loran lay in bed, a sense of unease arose within him, and the images of Instructor Lena and the blacksmith, Old Smith, flashed through his mind.

They didn't leave Rockfall with me, and I don't know how they are doing now. I heard that Plasson's reinforcements have already arrived. I hope everything is alright.

Lin Wen, on the other hand, did not choose to rest. Travel-worn, she walked alone on this familiar yet unfamiliar street.

As she walked, she came to a strange tavern and stopped. The tavern was called "Old Tavern".

Just then, a drunken man walked out of the tavern. Lin Wen called out to him, "Hello, may I ask why this place is called the Former Tavern?"

"The Old Tavern, huh? The name doesn't have any special origin. It's just a tribute to a tavern that used to be here. I heard that the owner of this shop and the owner of the old tavern were good brothers," the drunkard mumbled incoherently.

"Is the owner of this shop the same brother as the former owner of the tavern?" Lin Wen frowned, but didn't ask any more questions. Instead, he walked into the tavern on his own.

Seeing some familiar styles and the same bar counter, Lin Wen felt a complex mix of emotions.

She saw a bearded man drinking ale with several adventurers near the bar, his face flushed and looking quite happy.

"A toast to the past! A toast to our friendship!" The group raised their glasses and clinked them together.

Lin Wen quietly found a seat and sat down. She touched the texture of the chair, and... it felt very familiar.

Lin Wen used his meager savings to order a few glasses of coarsely brewed barley wine, which he drank silently by himself.

"Hello, beautiful lady, are you alone?" A boisterous man approached, holding a glass of ale and asking in a rough voice.

Lin Wen glanced up at the guy and snorted coldly, "Get lost."

"Hey, you've got quite a temper, little girl. It reminds me of a little girl from around here before. She had the exact same temper as you," the boisterous man teased.

Lin Wen was taken aback when she heard this. She looked at the man with a scrutinizing gaze, feeling that she seemed to have some kind of impression of him.

"You're drinking, right? You're paying." Lin Wen said coldly.

"Hey! No problem!" The big man was very happy to see that Lin Wen wanted to chat. He quickly sat down opposite Lin Wen and started bragging about all sorts of things.

The burly man pushed the beer towards Lin Wen, "Hehe, little guy, judging by your outfit, you must have just become an adventurer! If that's the case, we're in the same line of work, aren't we? I occasionally take on adventurer jobs too! My combat experience is extensive!"

"Furthermore, I know many adventurer teams. If you're interested, I can introduce you to one of them. I'm sure they'd be happy to accept a fledgling assassin like you!"

The big man only glanced at Lin Wen's attire to get a general idea of her current situation. He then used this to start a conversation with her, and that's how their relationship gradually became more familiar.

Unexpectedly, Lin Wen simply replied with an indifferent "Oh."

The big man was not discouraged; instead, he became even more interested and continued to look for topics to discuss.

However, Lin Wen's reactions were all pretty much the same, basically all cold and indifferent, which made the big man somewhat troubled.

He scratched his head, looking at Lin Wen who was drinking silently with some confusion. He suddenly felt that something was wrong. This guy... seemed to have drunk all the beer he brought!

Combined with that indifferent expression, it seems this guy is just here to scam drinks!

"Hey, hey, hey, why are you just drinking and not chatting with me? Are you trying to scam me out of my money for drinks?" The big man was a little uncertain.

Lin Wen readily admitted to this, "Yeah, I just tricked you into drinking the wine. Besides, wasn't this a consensual thing? What's so strange about it? You can't take back the wine you gave me, can you?"

"You..." The big man choked, looking at the young girl in front of him with some helplessness. "Alright then, you can drink slowly. I won't keep trying to be nice to you."

Just as the big man was about to turn and leave, Lin Wen called out to him again, "Hey, come back and sit down. I didn't say I was ignoring you."

The burly man's expression froze. He gave Lin Wen a strange look for a few moments before slowly returning to his seat. "Ah, you'd better be telling the truth, or I'll really feel like a monkey being played for."

"Hmm, please sit down." Lin Wen remained noncommittal.

The big man shrugged and sat back down. He was starting to find the girl in front of him rather interesting.

Lin Wen took a sip of his beer, then looked towards the bar area. "Who's the owner here?"

"Hey, tavern owner, you know, the drunk guy. Why should I answer your questions when you won't even answer them properly?" The burly man crossed his arms, looking indignant.

Lin Wen completely ignored the burly man and continued, "I heard a drunkard at the door say that this boss is very close to the former boss, like brothers. Is that true?"

Although the big man was very dissatisfied with Lin Wen's behavior, he still patiently explained, "Well, perhaps it's true."

"Really?" Lin Wen stared at the big man for a moment.

The big man felt that look was a bit strange... He frowned and said, "Why would I lie to you?"

Lin Wen revealed a sly smile, looking at the burly man and saying, word by word, "You...do you have a mole on your butt?"

The burly man looked completely bewildered. He glanced around warily, then stammered in surprise, "You..."
