Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 142: The Runes Remain Unsolved

"The Four Little Devils Squad?" Loran asked suspiciously. Wasn't this the squad he was in in his dream?

Furthermore, the team's name was created based on the fact that the four members are short in stature, making it a rather unique team!

Is it just a coincidence? Maybe those three short guys recruited another short guy back then, and that's how the current Little Four Little Guys team came together.

Hmm, I think that's how it is.

Loran felt a little relieved and, without thinking too much about it, returned to the neighborhood where they were staying with Finita.

"Freshly baked bread, it seems to be a specialty of that neighborhood. The owner of that shop seems to have been making bread for over ten years! The skills are quite good, I'm sure Sister Linwen and the others will really like it!"

Finita held the bread in her arms and smiled brightly.

But then Finita's face fell, and she looked at Loran with some sadness, saying, "Teacher Lena is still in Rockfall Town. I wonder how she is now."

"Instructor Lena is amazing. She'll be alright. She's there because she still has many students she wants to protect. She's truly a great teacher."

After bringing the bread to the neighborhood, the team members gradually woke up. Seeing that Lin Wen had been sleeping in the room for a long time, they were a little worried and knocked on the door.

Lin Wen yawned and came out. She sat down on the small stool next to Finita, took the bread and took a few bites. "Mmm, it's delicious. Finita, Loran, thank you."

"Oh, you're welcome, Sister Linwen. Just eat slowly, there's plenty more!" Finita waved her hands repeatedly.

Lin Wen just kept her head down and ate. After finishing, she returned to her room looking rather sullen.

"It seems like Sister Linwen isn't feeling well..." Finita said with some concern.

Noah shook his head: "I'm afraid you're exhausted from the journey. You'll be fine after a rest. We also need to think about our future plans. The Plassens certainly won't let us eat and drink for free here. If we don't create effective value, we'll eventually be squeezed out."

"So...we still can't do without adventure. I believe everyone has felt it too. The situation is very bad right now. The monster's influence has even affected a large system like the town. This is definitely not a small crisis."

"Perhaps a problem has arisen on the continent of Sorot. All we can do is continuously grow stronger in order to survive in the ever-changing environment of the future!"

Everyone agreed with Noah's statement that this was a problem they would have to face and solve in the future.

However, their most important task right now is to adjust their physical condition.

Thompson munched on his bread, took out several sheets of paper, and began sketching runes on them, looking very focused.

Loran leaned closer and curiously examined the little old man. "Thompman, how's it going? After all these years, the results are finally showing some promise. How does it feel?"

Thompson shook his head, somewhat helplessly saying, "I can only say that this might not be considered a particularly important achievement... because runes can only be activated at specific times."

"For example, if I sit here quietly right now, I obviously can't activate the runes, even if I wanted to, I just can't."

"You could say I understand the general logic of how the runes work, but I can't control them subjectively. They only appear when I have a certain level of conviction."

"Obviously, we can't do this in our daily lives, and applying it to combat would be very risky. It's very likely that... a teammate could be sacrificed while the magic becomes boundless."

Loran's face darkened upon hearing this; Thompson's description was quite apt.

Lorraine rubbed her hands together, then asked casually, "Thompman, don't you have any old friends you want to see this time? They must miss you a lot after all these years, right?"

"Old friends? Forget it, so many years have passed. Besides, many of them have probably achieved great success by now. Who would care about an old geezer like me? I'm still very self-aware."

There was a hint of helplessness in Thompson's tone.

Lorraine comforted her, "Oh? So you must have had a lot of friends back in Plasson, right? Why don't you tell me about them? I'm quite curious."

"You little brat, are you going to use my name to go after them?"

"Of course not! Besides, those people you're talking about are so powerful, I probably can't even get close to them. How would I find them?"

Thompson thought about it and realized that made sense. Since he had nothing else to do, he gave a brief account of some stories from his youth.

Loran listened very attentively, and even took some notes, recording some key points.

Another important point is that relying solely on Thompson's connections is definitely not enough; you need to have some real knowledge in your head.

So Loran began to ask Thompson about runes, and Thompson was happy to share his knowledge with Loran.

And Loran never forgot the words the headless monster murmured when it picked up its adventure manual that day.

He was talking about the little tricks of runes...

This means that his much-vaunted adventure manual may also be related to the power of runes.

The monster may have been mentioned casually, but we still have to pay attention to this point.

After sharing much about runes, Thompson remarked, "What I know now is far from enough. I want to make runes accessible to everyone! Only then can this field truly flourish. Right now, I only have some authority over runic power because of an accident..."

"I still don't understand how someone can be branded with runes. It's an invisible mark. The explosion from that experiment a long time ago gave me the rune mark, and Brian's encounter in the antique shop also gave it that mark. It was all a coincidence."

"No one knows how to give everyone this power."

Thompson sighed. It was clear that he was still not in a good mood. Getting only half an answer to a question was perhaps more painful than getting no answer at all.

Loran thought for a moment, then realized something and asked, "Thompman, it seems like you've been researching runes all by yourself, but... generally speaking, even magical laboratories need the help of others to make new discoveries, right?"

"Do you think you might need some help?"

Thompson paused, then smiled wryly, "Who would do such a thankless job?"

Loran smiled slightly, straightened his clothes, and coughed.
