Game of Thrones: Dragons have three heads, not three-headed dragons.
Chapter 6 begins sword forging, the third lottery draw.
A month after Tob-Mot's injuries healed, Oris brought out the metal fittings from the basement. These Valyrian metal fittings, including rings, pendants, daggers, and statues, looked quite messy. After examining them carefully, Tob-Mot said, "These fittings look like a lot, but they need to be refined to make weapons. After refining, we can only make one and a half swords at most."
Oris had actually anticipated Tob-Mot's words, since many of the steel components were already rusted, indicating a significant amount of impurities. "Try your best in forging. It's already quite good that these components can be used to forge a hybrid sword; this is within my expectations."
Upon hearing Oris's words, Tob-Mot immediately began refining the Valyrian steel components. The forging of the new sword took three days, and just as it was about to be completed, Tob-Mot told Oris, "It still needs a slave sacrifice furnace for this sword to be fully formed." Oris didn't react immediately, because he already knew about the need for a sacrifice furnace for Valyrian steel from his knowledge of blood magic. Proper Valyrian steel forging required dragon blood and slaves for sacrifice, but Oris possessed blood magic within him. If he used his own blood to sacrifice the steel sword before opening the furnace, he could achieve the same effect as a slave sacrifice furnace.
"Just open the furnace, I have a way." Tob-Mot didn't say much, directly opening the furnace door. Blazing flames erupted, molten steel flowed into the inside of the sword mold, and it began to take shape. Oris then cut his own palm, dripping his blood into the inside of the mold, and began chanting a blood magic incantation. As time passed, the sword gradually cooled, and instead of the expected water ripples, the blade glowed with a crimson hue.
After the sword gradually took shape, Oris felt dizzy from the depletion of magic. He instructed Tob-Mot to decorate the blade before returning to rest. When Oris returned to the workshop the next morning, Darren and Grall were staring intently at the dragon head on the sword. Seeing Oris arrive, the two little boys rushed towards him. "Brother, is this the sword you forged?" Darren asked first.
"Yes, it's made from materials left by Father. Do you plan to name it?" Oris asked. Darren hesitated for a moment, "Bloodblade, I plan to call it Bloodblade." Oris pondered for a while and then said, "It's a good name. Once you can wield this sword freely, I'll give it to you." Darren jumped up happily upon hearing this, and then continued to examine the red ripples on the blade with Rag.
Oris then approached Tob-Mott, saying, "Your forging skills are truly excellent. Would you be interested in staying a little longer to teach me?" Tob-Mott looked at Oris in surprise. "You're interested in learning forging?" Tob-Mott asked, astonished. "Why not? Isn't the blacksmith among the Seven a master forger?"
Despite Oris's persistent pleading, Tob-Motte eventually taught him most of the forging techniques, except for the recasting of Valyrian steel. Before Tob-Motte could even leave, Oris's tenth nameday quietly arrived.
That night, Oris went to bed early, waiting for midnight to give him another chance to draw a prize. As night fell and Oris began to feel sleepy, his consciousness quietly entered the void. "Congratulations, host, on reaching the tenth nameday. You have another chance to draw a prize. Would you like to draw now?" Hearing the voice announcement from the void, Oris immediately began observing the patterns on the wheel. After several observations, Oris could only discern that the wheel contained metal blocks of different shapes; he couldn't understand the detailed characteristics.
Without much thought, Oris started the lottery. The wheel in the void spun continuously, and the pointer eventually pointed to a piece of golden metal. Then, a voice announcement came from the void: "Congratulations, host, for obtaining the orogenic copper forging technology. Star fragments are also included as a bonus."
After the voice broadcast ended, Oris's consciousness returned to reality. He abruptly awoke from his bed, recalling his experience in the void. A surge of joy filled him as he looked towards his bedside. There, a piece of jet-black metal lay quietly beside his pillow. Oris carefully examined the metal. When his fingers touched its surface, he felt a slight chill. When he channeled his magical energy to touch the metal, it was directly absorbed. After a night of experimentation and observation, Oris concluded that this fragment of starlight possessed properties essentially identical to Valyrian steel, capable of absorbing magical energy and impact.
The next morning, Oris took the star fragment to Tob-Mot, who was instructing the manor's blacksmith. "Master Tob," he said, "while searching through my father's old collection, I found this piece of metal. I don't know what it is. Could you please process it?" Tob-Mot stopped what he was doing and turned to look at the metal in Oris's hand. Oris could gradually see the gleam in Tob-Mot's eyes. "If I'm not mistaken," he thought, "this should be a star fragment. It's the best material for forging weapons."
Oris wasn't surprised, as he was already familiar with the properties of the Star Fragment. "Then I'll trouble the master to help me forge a weapon once again."
"No problem, what kind of weapon do you plan to forge?" Tob-Mot asked. Oris had seen the size of the star fragment. If it were used to forge a sword, it could only be a rapier like the Dark Sisters'. Oris didn't like such a somewhat feminine weapon. Just as Oris was pondering, a flash of inspiration struck him, and he immediately began forging it in the blacksmith's shop. By the end of the day, Oris had completed the forging, and what appeared before Tob-Mot's eyes was a Tang-style horizontal sword.
After Oris handed the Tang-style sword to Tob-Mot, the latter examined it carefully and said, "This is indeed a new weapon, somewhat like the style of the Yi people. It's lighter than a traditional sword and also has slashing characteristics." Before Tob-Mot could finish his opinion, Oris asked, "How about it? Can it be forged like this?" Tob-Mot nodded slightly, "With this sword as a reference, it should be possible to forge it." He then immediately began hammering and testing the star fragment. It should be noted that for top blacksmiths, such rare metals are extremely difficult to come by.
While Tob-Mot was processing the materials, Oris didn't lose focus. He followed Tob-Mot almost every step of the way, learning the forging techniques of star fragments. After all, he still had an unexperimented orogen formula in his mind, and learning other blacksmithing techniques would make it easier for him to forge orogen into weapons.
After nearly ten days of forging, the Star Fragment weapon gradually took shape. When Tob-Mot finished assembling the hilt of the black longsword, Oris raised the black longsword. The sword was entirely black, with a black dragon head inlaid at the end of the hilt. Oris picked up the black sword and slashed at an ordinary steel sword, almost instantly cutting it in two. Its sharpness was no less than that of Valyrian steel.
