I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!

Chapter 14: Monster Modification on the 4th Floor

Graystone Town, Dusk Inn.

Arthas was alone in his room. He wanted to explore the town more, but system messages kept flashing before his eyes.

[Dungeon Notice: Warning! The mimic on the fourth floor has been removed. Please equip your new monsters as soon as possible.]

[Dungeon Notice: The fourth floor boss, the Mirror Demon King, wishes to speak with you.]

Arthas, annoyed beyond measure, had no choice but to use teleportation to return to the throne room of Dark Hemkas.

A flash of white light appeared.

A Gothic dome comes into view.

Inside the throne room, only a few imps were wiping candlesticks. When they saw Arthas appear, they were so frightened that they dropped the rags in their hands and huddled behind a pillar, trembling.

Arthas ignored him and went straight to the throne.

next second.

Dracula appeared, carrying a stack of documents, his gold-rimmed glasses reflecting the dim candlelight in the hall.

"Your Excellency Demon Lord, you have finally returned. The monster configuration for the fourth floor needs your arrangement."

"I know." Arthas ascended the throne, rubbed his temples, and asked, "Is the Mimic's reassignment all done?"

"It's all done. All seven Mimics have been transferred to the customer service department and are currently undergoing basic training."

"Let the mimic monster handle the complaints?"

"They're suitable for delivering forms and storing adventurers' feedback forms." Dracula pushed up his glasses. "Getting back to the point, there are no monsters on the fourth floor right now. Luckily, there are people from the Adventurers' Guild guarding the entrance to the third floor. So far, no humans have noticed anything unusual, but we still need to deal with it as soon as possible."

Upon hearing this, Arthas fell into thought.

The original layout of the fourth floor was a mirror maze, with the core mechanism being the "Mirror Challenge"—a replica of the adventurer would appear in the mirror, which had to be defeated to proceed, while the treasure chest monster was an Easter egg.

The BOSS is a Mirror Demon King who has lived for at least three hundred years. He is quite powerful, but he is very talkative.

"The Mirror Demon King is looking for me?"

"Yes, it has three requests. First, it hopes that the fourth floor will be renovated, changing the style from 'maze in the mirror' to 'gallery in the mirror,' exhibiting its collection of self-portraits over the years."

"...A self-portrait?"

"It contains more than two thousand paintings."

What the heck? A self-portrait in a mirror?!

Arthas was silent for two seconds: "And the second point?"

"It requests the addition of a deputy, preferably someone with a bit of artistic talent and someone you can chat with."

"The third point?"

"When it heard that there was a choir on the first floor, it asked if we could also have an arts group on the fourth floor. It proposed to establish the 'Mirror Drama Club' to perform for adventurers before the BOSS battle."

"..."

"It will personally write the scripts; it's said it's already written over forty." Dracula controlled his expression and continued, "The subject matter is mainly... the legendary story of the Mirror Demon King."

Alsace leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.

The first floor is organizing a choir, the fourth floor is planning to start a drama club; the underground city is turning into a cultural performance venue.

"We'll talk about the arts groups later," Arthas said, opening his eyes. "Let's deal with the mob composition first. We need new mobs for the fourth floor. Do you have any suggestions?"

Dracula pulled a form from the documents and handed it to the Imp, saying, "The HR department has shortlisted a few options."

Option 1: Mimics.

Advantages: It can be disguised as any object, has strong concealment, and can scare adventurers.

Disadvantages: It overlaps with the Mimic's function, lacks uniqueness, and the Shapeshifter's personality is aloof and unsociable, which can easily lead to a dull team atmosphere.

Note: Last month, three shapeshifters applied for suspension because they "felt that life had no meaning".

Option 2: Phantom Assassin.

Advantages: High speed and high attack power, capable of posing a real threat to adventurers and increasing the difficulty of dungeons.

Weakness: The mortality rate is too high. Last month, six Phantom Assassins died a total of 97 times.

Note: The accounting department has protested multiple times.

Option 3: Mirror Servants.

Advantages: It fits the theme of the fourth layer, allows for free movement between mirrors, and offers tactical flexibility.

Disadvantages: It requires three weeks of professional training from the Mirror Demon King, but the Mirror Demon King demands that "overtime pay be provided during the training period at the BOSS level".

Note: The Mirror Demon King's original words were, "Don't expect me to mentor new people if you don't pay overtime."

Option 4: Do not set up regular monsters, but place elite monsters instead.

Recommended setup: The combination of Carter the Clown and Jooka the Joker will give the fourth floor a more amusement park feel.

Advantages: Elite monsters are easier to manage than regular monsters.

Disadvantages: Both Carter the Clown and Joker are quite active and like to scare people, so it's uncertain how well adventurers will accept them.

Dracula added, "My suggestion is to use a combination of Carter the Joker and Juka the Joker, making the fourth floor mainly a maze, which will save on the budget and also be novel."

After reviewing the table, Arthas slowly said, "These solutions all have problems; they are not perfect."

"Yes, Lord Demon King," Dracula replied without changing his expression, "that's why your decision is needed."

"Where's the Mirror Demon King? Call it over first."

"Yes."

Dracula snapped his fingers.

A full-length mirror in the corner of the throne room suddenly rippled, its surface spreading out like waves.

A face with no fixed shape peeked out from the mirror. Its features were constantly changing, sometimes young, sometimes old, sometimes male, sometimes female. The only constant was the smile at the corner of its mouth that it thought was charming.

"Demon King!" The Mirror Demon King's voice echoed as if from the bottom of a well, "You've finally deigned to see me!"

Its entire body squeezed out of the mirror, and when it landed on the ground, it transformed into a human figure wearing a magnificent robe embroidered with the mirror's patterns.

"Your throne room is still so poorly lit." The Mirror King looked around and shook his head. "Would you like me to redesign it for you? Renovating with mirrors would triple the sense of space, and besides..."

"Let's get down to business," Arthas interrupted the Mirror King.

The Mirror Demon King was taken aback, cleared his throat, and pulled out a thick roll of parchment from his robe.

"Your Majesty, I believe that the fourth floor should undergo a brand upgrade during this monster replacement."

"...Brand upgrade?"

"That's right!" The Mirror Demon King unfolded the parchment, which was densely covered with writing and numerous mirror drawings. "The concept of a mirror labyrinth is too outdated. What do adventurers like these days? They like immersive experiences! They like stories! They like art!"

"Take out the self-portrait you mentioned earlier and let me see it."

Upon hearing this, the Mirror Demon King's eyes lit up, and he quickly pulled out a huge picture frame from his body.

The image shows an extremely ornate mirror, its frame inlaid with jewels, and its surface reflecting another mirror.

"This is... a self-portrait?"

"Yes! This painting is called 'Mirror Within a Mirror,' and it's one of my most satisfying works. It expresses the idea that when a mirror reflects itself, it sees infinite reflections, symbolizing the eternal cycle of self-examination."

"Isn't this... just two mirrors reflecting each other?"
