I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!
Chapter 78: The North
The next morning.
The rain in Holy City has stopped.
When Arthas pushed open the hotel room door, the eastern horizon was just beginning to lighten. He hadn't returned to Dark Hemcas the night before, but had stayed in his room at the Golden Acorn Hotel.
On the eve of joining the Dawn of Light as Dick Reynolds, he needed a night undisturbed by any monsters to sort out his thoughts. Samigina's words were like a piece of bone stuck in the gears; if he didn't pull it out, the whole machine wouldn't run smoothly.
The disappearance of the hero, the monster kingdom, the truth about the time travel—these questions surged through his mind one after another until they were forcibly suppressed late into the night.
What we need to do today is very simple.
Join the Vast Expanse Squad and participate in the conquest of Dark Hemcas. As an adventurer, see for yourself what loopholes still exist in the dungeon you've managed for a century.
As for further plans, we'll talk about that after we get the first kill.
Arthas pinned the golden badge to his chest and stepped out the door. The streets of Holy City were already bustling with people in the early morning.
The bakery clerk was putting freshly baked rye bread on the shelves, while several early-rising new adventurers were squatting at the guild entrance waiting for it to open.
The little boy selling morning newspapers walked barefoot on the wet flagstones, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Urgent news from the North! The Kingdom of Grasha has launched an attack on the North! The Cold Iron Fortress of the Kingdom of Kada is under siege!!!!"
Arthas bought one when he passed by. He unfolded the parchment, which still smelled of ink. The front page had a map of the North printed on it. The three locations of Icelake Town, Ash Pass, and Clear Icelake were surrounded by red arrows, which originated from the Kingdom of Grasha in the north.
The report stated: "Grasha has amassed a large army and crossed the border to ally with the troll tribe. The current king of the Kingdom of Khadar, 'Frost Axe King' Bald Yggdal, was killed while covering the rear at Ironfang Pass. Currently, the defense of Cold Iron Keep is temporarily under the command of the third prince, Raine Yggdal."
The report was accompanied by a blurry portrait of a young warrior on the walls of Cold Iron Fortress.
Rennes...
Arthas put away the newspaper, turned and walked towards the headquarters of the Dawn of Light. Some things didn't need to be rushed, but that didn't mean he didn't keep them in mind.
The Sun Emblem above the main gate of Dawn of Light gleamed with a pale golden light in the morning glow. Two guards, dressed in white and gold robes with gold trim, stood ramrod straight, holding halberds.
Arthas presented the token given to him by Anrivi. The guard on the left glanced at it and stepped aside.
"The rendezvous point for the Vast Expanse Squad is on the second floor. Go up the stairs and turn right at the second door." The guard paused, then added in a low voice, "Captain Kahn is already inside."
Alsace walked through the first-floor lobby.
The walls are adorned with oil portraits of the Dawn of Light's successive commanders, vice-commanders, and squad leaders, arranged in order starting with the first commander, Boris Fording.
He paused for a moment in front of the portrait of Boris, who was still young in the painting, with blond hair flowing down his shoulders. His left hand was resting on a shield with a sun emblem, and his right hand was holding a broad-bladed knight's sword. His eyes were as sharp as a freshly sharpened blade.
The door to the second-floor command center was ajar.
Alsace pushed open the door.
The situation room was larger than expected.
On the wall opposite the long table hung a huge cross-sectional diagram of Dark Hemkas, from the first to the twenty-first floor, with each floor marked with different colored thumbtacks indicating the monster configuration and progress of the strategy.
Four people were sitting around the long table.
Closest to the door was a young monk who looked to be under twenty years old, who was lying on the table drawing stick figures with a quill pen. Hearing the door open, he looked up, revealing bright, light gray eyes.
"A newbie! Alive!"
"Milo, shut up." Sitting next to the mage was a burly, heavily armored warrior, bald, with thick eyebrows, and arms thicker than Arthas's thighs. He was sharpening the blade of a two-handed battle axe with a whetstone, each stroke extremely slow and steady, as if he were giving the axe a massage.
He looked up at Arthas and nodded in greeting: "Groom, heavy armored warrior."
"Liz." The third person spoke up. She was a female ranger sitting by the window with short dark brown hair and a few light freckles on her face. She was wiping her bowstring with a soft cloth.
She gave Arthas a friendly smile. "Scout of the Vast Squad, don't be intimidated by Groom's face. He just looks fierce."
Groom snorted and continued sharpening his axe.
Milo lay on the table and muttered softly, "I'm not lying, it really is alive."
A deep, steady voice came from the other end of the long table: "Please sit down."
Arthas looked in the direction of the sound and saw a middle-aged man sitting at the end of the long table. He had dark skin, a lean build but very broad shoulders and back, and wore a faded gray monk's robe. His hands were folded on his knees, and he looked like a stone statue polished by time.
His eyes were dark brown, and he looked at people in a strange way, as if judging your posture, breathing, and the degree of relaxation of every muscle in your body.
Kahn Greymane.
Legendary Arbiter.
The only legendary-level character in Dawn of Light is not an honorary advisor like Martha, but an active legendary-level character who is actually incorporated into the battle group and leads the team into battle.
"Dick Reynolds, the magic swordsman." Arthas placed the token given to him by Anrivi on the table.
"Have a seat." Kahn gestured to the empty chair next to the long table. "You're the only one missing."
Arthas sat down and used his senses to look at Kahn.

Level 601...
Is he the limit of human potential?
The door to the war room was pushed open again, and An Ruiwei walked in. Today she was not wearing the commander's battle robe, but a light silver-white chainmail, with a long sword hanging at her waist. The strand of white hair on her left temple was braided into a thin braid and gathered behind her ear.
Her expression was as calm as it had been in the guild hall the night before, but there was a subtle tension between her brows.
An Ruiwei walked up to the cross-sectional diagram and drew a circle on the 21st floor with charcoal.
"The Oracle Squad escaped the dungeon last night using the Return Stone. The Whispers of the Bones are more troublesome than expected; the Undead Domain deals damage every second, and there's another army of undead."
"Therefore, the twenty-first floor needs you. Kahn, your divine domain can hold out for twenty minutes. What you need to do is break through the undead army within these twenty minutes and force out the true form of the Bone Whisperer."
"Twenty points?" Groom put down the whetstone, tested the axe blade with his thumb, "Enough for me to turn all their skeletons into firewood."
"Don't underestimate the undead." Liz didn't even look up, her fingers slowly tracing the bowstring. "The Oracle Squad is no less capable than us; your shield might not hold up."
"We can do it." Kahn stood up. "The tactics are simple. I'll use my domain to hold the front, Grum will pull the mobs, Liz will clear the undead minions on both sides, and Milo will use earth magic to control the field. Dick, you'll provide the additional damage."
Alsace nodded.
"We'll set off at nine tonight." An Ruiwei placed the charcoal pencil on the long table. "Remember to collect all the supplies: potions, holy water, and anti-curse scrolls. Everyone should bring at least ten sets. Don't let a single bottle of holy water cause problems in the undead realm."
Milo stood up and walked out, but turned back at the door and beckoned to Arthas: "Newbie, come with me. I'll take you to the supply depot. What weapon are you using? A longsword? We have quite a few good things in our warehouse..."
His mouth seemed to be springy; once he started talking, he couldn't stop. Arthas silently followed him out of the war room, preparing to visit the warehouse of the Dawn of Light.
