Chapter 113 The Nameless Night
Chapter 113 The Nameless Night
After three days of rest, Li Ying's health improved significantly. After planting the bomb, Vito went home and lifted Li Ying onto a wheelchair, pushing her to the rooftop.
He set up a simple little pavilion there to keep Liying from the cold wind and rain, but Vito was overthinking it; today was a good day.
"What surprise is it? You have to see it here."
Li Ying looked up at Vito's chin, her eyes smiling.
Vito pushed Liying into the pavilion and glanced at the time.
"You'll find out soon enough. Look at the east side of the city; it's almost time."
Meanwhile, biotechnology support had arrived at the photovoltaic base and was reading the deceased's behavioral data in an attempt to identify the murderer.
Suddenly, someone discovered the planted C7 bomb and screamed in terror.
"Remotely controlled bomb! Cannot be defused, evacuate! Evacuate!"
Boom! Boom!
Bombs exploded one after another, and orange orbs of light looked like someone blowing bubbles on the ground.
"How was it? Was the fireworks beautiful?"
"It's beautiful, but it's a bit far away, so I can't see it very clearly."
Liying smiled.
"It's okay, there will be real fireworks later."
Liying reached out her hand to Vito, who took her hand and pressed it against his face.
"Let's go downstairs, your hands are freezing."
"It's okay, I want to stay here with you a little longer."
Vincent had another job; he was walking through the Badlands at night delivering an encrypted package to a mysterious wealthy man.
He was listening to rock music on the radio, gently nodding his head, when suddenly he heard an explosion, followed by a flash of light.
Vincent stopped the car and stuck his head out of the window.
"Wow! This trip was totally worth it, there was even a fireworks display!"
-
At this moment, the night owls who were lying in ambush ahead saw Vincent park his car and thought they had been exposed, so they immediately jumped out from the roadside to try to hijack the car.
Vincent had lived in the cracks between Night City and Badlands for many years, and he had seen at least eight or a hundred bandit gangs. Most of them were street thugs with modified, broken guns who relied on their numbers to embolden themselves, and they had no real skills.
Five dark figures emerged, moving swiftly and with a clear division of labor, like a seasoned gang that had been entrenched in this dangerous place for years, specializing in robbing freight vehicles.
This is a well-known lone bandit gang of night owls in Badlands. The standard five-man squad consists of two guns and three melee weapons. They specialize in targeting lone trucks at night, and through ambushes and ambushes, they have plundered a lot of supplies. They are quite famous in the low-level thugs of the night owls.
The tall, thin man at the head of the group had a bizarre black ghost face tattooed on his face. He grinned maliciously in the light of the explosion, his voice hoarse and grating.
"Turn off the engine and get out! Hand over all the cargo, get out of the truck and lie down! This is a job for night-roaming ghosts; I'll leave you a whole corpse!"
Unfortunately, they chose the wrong opponent.
Of all people to choose, they had to pick Vincent, who had spent his life in the Badlands and was an expert in Badlands combat.
Vincent might be a bit weaker in high-level games now, but he's a pro at dealing with night owls.
Vincent, in the driver's seat, remained calm and composed, his eyelids barely raised as when he had watched the explosion, his tone light and casual, tinged with a hint of schadenfreude.
"Five? Your Night Wanderer gang is expanding so casually now? If you can't gather enough people, don't come out to rob people. You're not enough for me to stretch my muscles."
As soon as he finished speaking, he pushed open the door and got out of the car. There was no tense standoff with a gun drawn; instead, he seemed like a leisurely person taking a stroll.
Enraged by his nonchalant attitude, the five robbers' tattooed leader let out a cold shout.
"Stop acting tough! This is the law of this place. If you know what's good for you, just do as I say, or I'll leave you lying dead in the wilderness!"
Vincent staggered, then leaned to the side of the car, just avoiding the angle at which the gun was locked on.
Using the car body as cover, he quickly reached his right hand to his waist, pulled out a pistol, and without any fancy aiming, fired two bursts.
boom!boom!
Two crisp gunshots rang out, aimed directly at the head, not the torso, and the two gun-wielding night owls were immediately taken down.
Before they could react, Vincent shoved his pistol into his holster with one hand and glanced at the three melee robbers who were armed with close-combat weapons.
His gaze fell into the car, and he casually bent down and picked up a heavy, solid auto repair wrench that was about half a meter long.
Vincent picked up the cold, heavy iron wrench, weighed it in his hand, and a smile appeared on his lips.
"I've been driving all day and I'm completely exhausted. I'll just hang out with you guys for a bit."
Seeing this, the three armed robbers assumed he had abandoned his gun and was about to fight in close combat. Their courage surged, and they roared as they brandished their weapons, attacking from the left and right.
They charged in from three directions, attempting to use their numerical advantage to suppress the enemy at close range.
The robber swung his saw blade at Vincent's head with ferocious force, each strike potentially fatal.
An ordinary mercenary would have panicked and dodged long ago, but Vincent neither dodged nor avoided. He used agile, quick steps to drift to the side, while simultaneously raising his hand to precisely block with a wrench.
clang!
The crisp sound of metal clashing rang out, and the enormous recoil caused the saw teeth in the opponent's hand to fly out of his grasp.
Taking advantage of the moment when the other man lost his balance and leaned forward, Vincent deftly twisted his wrist and gently pried the other man's arm joint with the wrench. With a simple and skillful use of leverage, without brute force, the robber stumbled and fell flat on his face, covered in yellow sand and looking utterly disheveled.
Seeing this, the robber on the left gripped his short blade and stabbed Vincent in the side with a vicious move.
Vincent moved swiftly, his body stepping back to narrowly avoid the blade. At the same time, he used the momentum of the car body to launch a wrench-like attack.
He precisely struck the other man on the forehead with the wrench, causing him to black out and his legs to buckle, resulting in him kneeling on the ground.
The last melee robber on the right was the most ferocious, gritting his teeth and swinging his knife in a rapid, sweeping attack, trying to block Vincent's every move.
Vincent remained calm, pressed himself against the car body, and followed the trajectory of the swift knife sweep, sliding close to his opponent's side.
As the opponent exhausted their strength, missed their move, and lost their balance, Vincent raised his hand, used a wrench to press against the opponent's armpit joint, and gently flicked it upwards.
The night owl lost his balance instantly and fell heavily into the yellow sand.
In just over ten seconds, all three melee robbers fell to the ground, completely powerless to fight back.
Vincent gave the two surviving night ghosts a couple more whacks. These night ghosts were out there robbing people every day, and their hands were stained with the blood of countless people.
The night wind swept through, carrying yellow sand and scattering the traces of the fight.
Vincent patted the sand off the wrench, flicked his wrist casually, and looked like he hadn't had enough.
"This old trick hasn't been used in ages, and it works really well!"
Vincent put his things back in the car and lit a cigarette.
"Remember this, the new rule on Badlands Highway: don't stop V cars randomly from now on."
A few minutes later, the engine roared up again, the truck tires rolled over the gravel on the road, steadily bypassed the fallen roadblock, and sped into the depths of the night.
What began as a nighttime robbery by five men turned into a lighthearted performance for Vincent.
