Cyberpunk: I didn't cheat.
Chapter 35 Summer Dance
half a month later.
During the sweltering midday heat in the Heywood district, the sun was as scorching as a freshly heated blade.
On a street near Ganong Square, a newly opened shop has set up an exceptionally thick awning.
The neon sign with red background and white lettering shines even during the day – “Gunfire Children’s Clinic”.
The name is full of a kind of wicked contradiction, both implying that the human body can be repaired like a toy here, and bluntly declaring the place's obsession with firepower.
Vito stood in the doorway, holding a rag, casually wiping an Ajax assault rifle in the shop window.
The gun body was coated with a matte black finish, but the stock was painted with a pink unicorn, a small design that Vito had casually added. The model of this Ajax assault rifle could only be roughly identified from its appearance. The entire gun had been modified from start to finish. If there were any gun experts, their eyes would be glued to it.
"Vito, is there a mistake on that price tag?"
Gloria Martinez peeked out from behind the front desk.
She changed into a well-tailored white medical gown.
Although her face was still pale from recovering from a serious illness, her eyes were sharp and focused. She was holding a laser calibration instrument and adjusting it on a newly disassembled prosthetic operating table.
As a former senior employee of REO Medical, Gloria's professional skills were not diminished by her family's misfortunes. Vito entrusted her with half of the technical authority of the clinic, where she was not just a clinic manager, but also a lead surgeon.
"It's not a mistake."
Without turning his head, Vito straightened the rifle with the unicorn painted on it.
"That's for those small-time corporate dogs who think their lives are precious. If they're not scared away after seeing the price, then they deserve to use this gun."
They were talking about an Arasaka JKE-X2 Kenshin pistol, a simple and understated handgun that was the pride of engineer Arasaka and one of the most advanced and deadliest submachine guns on the market.
The price tag for this gun, after being modified by Vito, is enough to buy sixteen of the same model.
"You are an amazing person."
Gloria sighed, but a smile played on her lips. She expertly entered a series of commands on the operating table, and the blue light of the prosthetic diagnostic program instantly illuminated.
"This surgical arm, which was discarded by the 'Trauma Team,' has been calibrated by us. Its accuracy is 0.5% higher than when it left the factory. Vito, your modification ideas are always so unexpected."
"Let's just make the most of these secondhand goods."
Vito shrugged.
Although all his attributes are at maximum, he has recently only been interested in researching violent modifications, while he has left all the delicate medical maintenance to Gloria.
Just then, Jack also came into the store carrying a potted cactus and put it down.
"Congratulations, Mano, your little shop is open. But the name, Gunfire Kids, sounds like the house we used to play when we were kids, except people actually die."
Vito and Jack hugged.
"Come in and have an ice-cold Coke. Did you come by motorcycle in this weather?"
Jack took the Coke that Gloria offered him.
"Yes, it was almost overcooked. Thank you, Lady Gloria. Are you feeling better?"
Gloria waved her hand, indicating that she was welcome.
"I'm much better now, thank you for your concern."
"Mom! Vito!"
David ran to the door, his face beaming with excitement.
"Am I late? My training period is almost over, and I've been busy getting the team working together these past few days."
After a period of special training, David became much stronger and taller. He was still wearing his mother's REO Medical Company jacket.
"You've come at the perfect time. Jack's here too. Come in and have some iced drinks."
Vito beckoned him in.
"Is this the legendary weapons master?"
Rebecca looked Vito up and down, chewing gum as she did so. Vito noticed that she was carrying a weapon case that was almost as big as him.
David was a little embarrassed, and he scratched his head.
"Rebecca, this is Vito."
Rebecca threw the weapon case on the ground with a loud bang, then walked straight to the display window.
"These weapons look interesting. Are there any hidden menu items?"
Vito smiled and snapped his fingers.
card!
A mechanical sound came from the side of the roller shutter door, and two mechanical turrets were seen extending out, each equipped with a Type 31 heavy machine gun.
The gun resembled a ferocious monster, with its thick barrel modified to 17 millimeters, resembling a small cannon. It used Vito's specially made, hand-crafted, high-explosive armor-piercing bullets.
"How about this? Although single-person reloading is not possible in combat, it's not a big problem in most cases. Anyway, there won't be any survivors by the time its magazine is empty."
The sudden appearance of the turret left Jack and the others speechless. Rebecca was so surprised that she almost swallowed her chewing gum. Only Gloria smiled helplessly. She really didn't understand why Vito wanted to install a turret in the prosthetic clinic.
"Damn it, Mano, did I go to the wrong place? This isn't some underground military technology base, is it?"
Rebecca recovered her senses.
"Uh, do you have any high-powered handguns, and could you modify my own gun for me?"
Vito saw a customer coming and went over to pick up the weapons case.
"Of course, there are two specially modified, high-powered Constitutional Military Freedom guns in the counter. I guarantee they're even more powerful than the ones Arasaka Yoriyuki has. You can tell me your requirements for your gun, and the Mann Squad will give you a discount."
Vito looked at the petite girl who only reached his waist and made a joke.
Children get half price.
Rebecca's face turned red, and she became furious.
"I'm not a child! I'm so angry!"
After saying that, Rebecca stormed off to the counter, grabbed a gun, and went to the shooting range to test it. Ten minutes later, Rebecca returned to sit down next to the group and looked at Vito, drawing out her words.
"Vito-chan~ Is it true that kids get half price?"
Vito laughed heartily.
"Just kidding, I don't sell guns to kids, but since you're my first customer, I can give you a 50% discount today."
"Wuhu~ Thank you, Vito-chan~"
She jumped down next to David and waved her pistol at him: "Hey David, looks like we've got our gear sorted out now. This clinic can fix people and sell guns, I love it here!"
Jack took a big gulp of beer and shouted, "I knew it, Vito! This place will definitely be our brothers' gathering place from now on! Come on, cheers to 'Gunfire Kids'!"
Seeing the robust David's genuine smile, watching Jack and Vito's playful banter, and seeing Rebecca excitedly making a phone call with Mann's team, Gloria smiled with satisfaction.
In this crazy city, such tranquility and happiness may be the most expensive luxury.
