Cyberpunk: I didn't cheat.

Chapter 4: Living Like This for 3 Years

It's hard to describe life in Night City. Gunfights, violence, and flying bits of flesh are the smallest problems in Night City. The biggest problem is actually Night City's cannibalistic system.

The biggest problem with this system is that the lower class in Night City have to rely on cybernetic bodies to make a living, and these cybernetic bodies can also eat people. Once you have a high-efficiency cybernetic body, you have to pay high maintenance fees to maintain it. If any problems occur, such as unemployment, car accidents, or other accidents, you will lose everything, including your cybernetic body. The company and the cleaners will not hesitate to dig the cybernetic body out of your flesh and blood, and then watch you turn into a madman or rotten flesh.

As for cyberpsychosis, don't be silly. You need to have an implant to qualify as a cyber madman. If you don't have an implant, doctors are already being considerate of your emotions by saying you have bipolar disorder.

Vito, following his memory and asking around, found Misty's psychic house. He went inside and found Misty talking to a middle-aged woman, who was Fredo's friend who was killed earlier that day.

"Mida, I know this is a huge blow to you, but people always need something to live for. You can't let sadness destroy you."

Misty was comforting Meda, helping her lean back in a recliner and lighting incense in an attempt to soothe her pain.

Seeing Vito enter carrying a bundle of clothes, Misty said softly.

"Could you wait a moment? You can put your things on the sofa over there."

Vito said, "Are you free, Vito? I'd like to have surgery."

Misty called Vito, chatted for a bit, and then replied to Vito.

"Dr. Victor is free. Do you know how to get to the clinic?"

Vito had walked the route to Old Vito's clinic countless times in the game, but this was the first time in reality that he had answered Misty's question.

"You should know that I came back to ask you because I couldn't find it."

After saying that, Vito walked out the back door and headed straight for Old Vito's basement clinic, relying on his memory.

Fortunately, the alley was not much different from the one in the game, and Vito successfully met with Old Vito.

Dr. Victor was more like a boxer; his arms were thick enough to take down a bull, and there were several red spots on his right arm—marks of short-acting stimulants he had injected during surgery.

"Child, what kind of surgery do you need?"

Vito unwrapped the bundle of clothes he was holding, took out the head of a scavenger, and then asked old Vito.

"Could you remove his prosthetic eye and install it on me?"

Although Victor had seen his share of great things, this was the first time he had ever encountered such a situation. The young man in front of him wearing a mask was like a cyber madman.

"Sorry, I don't gouge out people's eyes here. You'll have to find somewhere else, kid."

Vito removed his mask and explained.

"I went to a shady clinic today, and after I came out, I was targeted by the Cleaners. I took them down, but I don't have a prosthetic body. I don't know when the next batch of Cleaners will arrive, so I can only install a prosthetic eye to prepare for the battle. I heard you are the most renowned prosthetic doctor in Watson District, so I had no other choice but to come to you for help. This head belonged to the Cleaners, and he deserved to die. Please help me!"

Old Wei thought for a moment, then took the severed head and said...

"Prosthetic eyes aren't something you can just take out and use right away. It depends on the compatibility. Some shady clinics get their prosthetic eyes from cleaners and often do dirty work. It's not surprising that you've been targeted."

Old Wei fiddled with the head for a while, then took out the prosthetic eye from the Scavenger's head.

"The prosthetic eyes from the Crossroads Division are genuine, high-quality products. Logically, a scavenger wearing such prosthetic eyes should have some decent work to do. How did you manage to take them out?"

Vito wanted to throw away the turban clothes, but after looking around, he couldn't find a trash can. Then, at Old Vito's suggestion, he threw the clothes next to the fence by the door.

Then Vito casually replied.

"I had just finished watching the Terrorist SWAT team kill someone and was about to go back to the hotel when I discovered that this guy and two other guys were following me. I lured them into an alley and did it."

Old Wei began cleaning the remaining bits of flesh from his prosthetic eye. He said, "I've heard about the Terrorist Squad thing too. The guy who died was Fredo, one of my regular customers."

Vito asked, puzzled, "How can someone lose an arm and not care in this day and age? What difficulties does he have?"

Old Wei gave a helpless, bitter smile and replied.

"He cut off his own hand. He was working in a factory, doing well and saving some money. So he wanted to cut off his hand and get a prosthetic to improve his efficiency. Guess what happened? The factory's performance declined and he was the first to be laid off. He could no longer maintain his prosthetic and could only watch helplessly as the factory owner and company that had lent him money took everything from him, including his claws."

This silenced Vito, and then the old man continued.

"There are rumors on the streets that Fredo has developed cyberbullying. If you ask me, no one would find it easy to accept something like this."

Vito felt the topic was too heavy, so he changed the subject: "You like boxing?"

Old Wei was disinfecting his prosthetic eye when he casually replied, "I like it, but not the kind of boxing where they pile things on themselves. That's what you young people like to watch. I prefer the old-school boxing, the heavyweight class."

Vito said, "I love watching that too, you know, old-school boxing."

Old Wei was somewhat surprised.

Which players' matches do you enjoy watching?

Vito said, "I can't remember many names, just Mayweather and Pacquiao."

Old Wei paused, then chuckled, "Finding videos of these ancient legends isn't easy. Johnny Silverhand hadn't even blown up the Desolate Tower when they retired."

After some work, Old Vito cleaned up the prosthetic eye and gestured for Vito to lie down in the chair.

"Is this the start?" Vito asked.

"Of course not, I still need to check your body to see if the prosthetic eye is a good match. If I turn you into a cyber lunatic, my reputation as an old man will be ruined."

Vito waved his hand to indicate his understanding, and after a thorough examination, Old Vito said...

"You have a really good physique, which fits this prosthetic eye from the Crossroads Division very well. I have to say you're very lucky. You can't just find any pair of eyes on the roadside and have them fitted."

Old Vito poured Vito a beer and a sedative, which he said was a specialty of Vito's clinic.

The prosthetic eye surgery was completed quickly. Vito, who had just finished installing the prosthetic eye, didn't have time to worry about the frame skipping issue; he saw the notification.

The prosthetic eye is now installed and the panel is open.

Then a UI similar to that in the game appeared, showing the prosthetic body status, street reputation, Euro account, and various levels.

Vito couldn't wait to check his five stats, and as he expected, they were all 20. Vito was now a super V who was five times more powerful than the initial V Zhentian, and his body was legendary from the start.

Although Vito doesn't have Relic and can't crawl out of the garbage heap after being shot in the head, Vito doesn't care. Living legends are pretty good, and after all, Vito's name starts with V.
