Organ rental company in another world
114. My older brother isn't very bright.
Although Motu Village is called a village, it is actually as large as a town.
The densely packed houses spread outwards from the center of the basin, occupying almost half of the basin's bottom area.
These houses were not only arranged haphazardly, but also varied greatly in size.
Sometimes, a grand mansion built of granite with carved windows is right next to a dilapidated shack pieced together from planks and rags, the difference between the houses is enormous.
Compared to the neat and orderly Miguang City, the streets here appear exceptionally chaotic.
The road was full of potholes and stagnant with some sewage. Horse manure lay on the road unswept, left to dry in the wind and crumble underfoot.
In addition, the road was filled with all sorts of vendors, who would stop anyone who passed by with open wooden crates and loudly and impolitely promote their goods.
They would immediately back down when they encountered a tough opponent, but if they met a cowardly pushover, they would grab her by the collar and pester her relentlessly until they sold her the goods.
"Sir, take a look. We have all kinds of potions here—healing potions, powerful ones, and magic-restoring ones..."
"Need lodging? Only twenty copper coins a night! Breakfast included!"
……
The streets were incredibly noisy, and people seemed to be quite irritable as well. Fights could be seen on the streets from time to time.
"This place is so chaotic," Norn remarked.
"Of course, this place doesn't belong to any chieftain's territory, so nobody cares about it. Although the Adventurers' Guild has set up sheriffs here to maintain order, they only care about major issues. They just turn a blind eye to petty things like robbery and beatings."
As Koroya spoke, he kicked away the vendors who approached him.
The carriage stopped in front of a tall stone building. Koroya turned to Norn and said:
"This is a branch of the Adventurers' Guild. We need to find a place to stay now. See you again sometime."
That's what he said, but Norn could tell from the fake smile on Chorya's face that he didn't want to get entangled with him any longer.
Norn didn't intend to pester him further and asked, "Could you lend me some money for food?"
Koroya hesitated for a moment, then turned and climbed into the carriage, took out a small cloth bag, and handed it to Norn.
"Here are three silver coins. You don't need to return them. The currency here is not particular. Human money and demi-human money are used the same way, and the shops accept them all."
"Thank you." Norn took the cloth bag, weighed it in his hand, and the three silver coins made a crisp clinking sound.
Koroya wore an expression of relief, as if he had lost money to avoid further trouble. He jumped back into the carriage, which slowly merged into the crowd on the street and soon disappeared among the chaotic houses.
Norn led Arno into the Adventurers' Guild. There was nothing special about it; it was similar to the one in Rotten River Town. The only difference was that there were significantly more demi-humans here.
Norn led Arno to the front desk, during which Arno attracted a lot of attention, but they only looked at Arno's tall physique.
After killing the demi-human thieves, Norn used their clothes to add several more layers to Arno's body and covered his face with a tattered mask. Now, in their eyes, Arno was a tall, strange man.
Walking up to a counter, Norn placed a silver coin on it.
"Hello, we would like to register as adventurers."
The clerk collected the silver coins and then handed Norn a bag containing 50 copper coins as change.
Then she took out a leather notebook from the drawer and dipped a quill pen in the ink.
"What's your name?"
"Hohmann".
"And you?" The employee looked at Arno, who was bundled up tightly.
"Arno," Norn said for it, "he's mute, he can't speak."
The clerk nodded without asking any further questions. After roughly noting down the two men's characteristics in his notebook, the clerk took out two bronze adventurer badges from the drawer.
"That's fine."
"Thank you." Norn picked up the two bronze badges and put them in his pocket.
The registration process for adventurers was quite informal; the real challenge lay in the subsequent promotion assessments, at which point the guild would register the adventurers' physical appearance.
This badge is less of an identifier of an adventurer's identity and more of a credential for entering the dungeon.
After registering as an adventurer, the next step is to take on quests and earn money.
But before that, Norn decided to get something to eat. Although the three silver coins Chroya had given him weren't much, he could eat very well if he used them all for food.
As he stepped out of the guild, Norn's gaze swept across the street.
Right next to the guild was a tavern with a sign carved from oak hanging at the entrance that read "Drunken Bear Tavern".
Through the half-open wooden door, Norn could see that the business was booming.
"This is the place." Norn pushed open the tavern door and went inside.
The tavern wasn't very big, with about a dozen square tables, almost all of which were full of people.
At the table by the window sat a one-eyed lizardman, engrossed in eating a plate of bloody raw meat; at a table in the corner, a group of drunken human adventurers were gathered, raising their glasses and talking loudly; at the bar, a bear-man was wiping glasses and joking with the diners.
After looking around for a while, Norn finally found an empty square table, with greasy traces left by the previous customer still on it.
Norn was about to go over when a furious curse suddenly came from behind him.
"You bastard! How dare you steal my food!"
Norn turned around abruptly and saw a bald, burly man standing at the bar, pointing a knife at Norn with a furious expression.
Arnold squatted on the ground, holding an empty plate in both hands. Half a steak was visible under the tattered mask on his face, slowly disappearing under the mask as he chewed.
The bald man's voice attracted the attention of many diners in the store. Several muscular demi-human chefs emerged from behind the bar, each holding a cleaver.
However, the boss didn't let them fight, probably hoping they would break some things in the store so he could exchange them for new ones.
After finishing his steak, Arno set his sights on the roasted lamb leg at the next table, and when the plate was thrown on the ground, he reached out to grab it.
Arno only withdrew his right hand after Norn stepped in to stop it.
The bald man hesitated to make a move while holding the knife because he was somewhat wary of Arno's tall stature. However, when he saw the handsome Norn approaching, he immediately became imposing.
"Brother, your companion ate my steak. What do you think we should do about this?" the bald man asked, pointing the knife at Norn.
"Sorry, my older brother isn't very bright. How much was this steak? I'll pay for it," Norn said with a smile.
"Just the steak? Your brother made me miss my meal! You still have to buy me a drink."
"Of course, of course." Norn smiled and took out his money bag and started taking money out of it.
