122. Examining the Dream Team

The next day at noon, Norn and his group had lunch and then headed to the entrance of the Howling Dungeon at the agreed time.

By this time, a number of people had gathered, and several wooden carts loaded with supplies were brought over by the cooks.

The wooden cart was piled high with bulging sacks, barrels, and packages bound with straw rope.

After the cooks put the carts away, they bowed and scraped as they came to Charles to settle their accounts, their backs bent as if they were ripe ears of wheat in a field.

After paying the cooks, Sharred turned around and called a few people over to move the supplies.

They stuffed supplies into every backpack and then distributed them to each team member, including the two adamantite-level adventurers.

Norn took the backpack and found that it was very well made, with thick fabric and thick padding sewn on the shoulder straps and waist belt, so it wouldn't hurt his shoulders too much when he carried it. He guessed it wouldn't be too cheap.

Norn opened it out of curiosity, wanting to see what was inside.

Several bags of potions, neatly stacked at the bottom of the bag, were labeled with their uses: healing potions, mana restoration potions, sedative potions...

Beneath the medicine were several packets wrapped in straw paper.

Norn reached out and took out a packet, lifting a corner of the straw paper to reveal brownish-yellow lumps, about the size of eggs, with rough surfaces and a somewhat dry and hard feel.

He recognized it.

This was the kind of dry, gruel that Koroya and his companions used to treat themselves.

Daisy boiled it with water, and it turned into a pot of thick, yellowish-brown paste that could keep her going all day.

Norn frowned slightly, a sense of foreboding creeping into his heart.

If Shared has prepared such filling food, it means this mission is unlikely to end anytime soon.

"Judging from this astonishing amount, this trip will take at least half a month," Norn thought to himself, doing the math.

In the span of more than half a month, he could have completed more than a dozen A-level missions, earning more money without having to eat this pig-swill-like dry rations.

But since we're already here, it wouldn't be appropriate to back out now, so we have no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.

Norn rewrapped the toilet paper and stuffed it back into his backpack.

A person handed the backpack to Arno, who awkwardly took it and stared at it, unsure of what to do.

Norn sighed, reached out and took the backpack, then slung it over Arno's shoulder.

Once everything was ready, Sharred took the reins of a chestnut horse from the cook and mounted it.

The horse was large and strong, with thick limbs and a neatly combed mane. On its back hung a multi-functional backpack he had made himself, which was filled with various tools and instruments.

"Is everything ready? We're about to set off!" Shared shouted to the crowd from his horse.

After receiving only scattered responses from the crowd, Shared announced the start of the expedition, and the group entered the underground city.

Gloria hugged Daisy, who had come to see him off, and kissed her deeply on the forehead: "Don't worry, when I get back, we can buy land and a house and live a stable life."

Daisy nodded with tears in her eyes, then turned to look at Norn. Even without saying a word, Norn knew what she meant.

Norn raised his fist and pounded it on his chest to indicate that he was on her side, and Daisy smiled and nodded.

She wiped away the tears that blurred her vision and watched her husband and the others disappear into the underground city.

Most of the people in the group were unfamiliar with each other and rarely communicated along the way.

The few mithril-level adventurers walking ahead occasionally exchanged a few words in hushed tones, their voices so soft that they reached Norn's ears as indistinct whispers.

Although Norn and Chloe weren't very familiar with each other, they had the most interaction among the group, and so they unknowingly came together.

Koroya was fully equipped, with a longsword and dagger hanging at his waist, a bow and quiver on his back, and secondhand chainmail he had somehow acquired, which clattered as he walked.

In contrast, Norn's situation was much more basic, because he didn't have enough money to buy new, better equipment.

Feeling a bit bored, Norn started a conversation: "Koroya, how much do you know about the people in this team?"

Koroya subconsciously lowered his voice and said, "Not many, but I've heard some things."

So he introduced Norn to this well-equipped team.

The expedition team organized by Sharred, excluding Norn and his group, consisted of two steel-grade members, one diamond-grade member, and six mithril-grade members.

Then Koroya began to introduce the two steel-grade steel items.

He pointed to the burly swordsman following Shared's left:

"Uru, you already saw him yesterday. You'd better stay away from him. This guy has dwarven blood flowing through his veins, he's warlike and has a very volatile temper. If you say something wrong and upset him, he won't go easy on you just because you're on his team."

Norn nodded, recalling the deadly move that Uru used when he fought Arno yesterday.

"The other Steel-class is called Felix," Koroya said, pointing to the slender figure to Sharred's right.

"It's an all-around genius, with top-notch swordsmanship and magic. It has a rather aloof personality and doesn't talk much, making it easier to get along with compared to Uru."

Norn's gaze swept over the group, and he suddenly noticed something. He asked, "Wait a minute, you said there should be 12 people here, but I only see 11?"

Koroya replied, "Indeed, one person is missing. That person is a Diamond-level, and I heard she's a pure-blooded elf. She entered the dungeon before we even recruited her, and she should be waiting for us on the ninth floor now."

"Wait for us? Why would you do that?" Norn asked, puzzled.

"I don't know, since this is my first time participating in this kind of mission."

After saying this, they didn't exchange any more words and continued on their way in silence.

They did encounter many monsters along the way, but they were all mercilessly crushed like weeds in front of this team.

Some people, tempted by the monster materials, tried to sneak some into their backpacks, but were severely scolded by Shared.

The group kept traveling, only resting once along the way. They didn't even eat any dry rations, just drank some water.

Before they knew it, the light in the dungeon had dimmed.

Norn knew that the underground city's light source came from an ancient magic circle at the top of the city, and the dimming light meant that night had fallen outside.

But Shared did not let the team rest and continued on their way.

Late at night, they passed through a long tunnel and the team reached the sixth floor.

At this point, the Mithril-class adventurers became somewhat nervous, while the two Steel-class adventurers remained calm and composed.

Guided by Sharred, the group headed down a path that Norn immediately recognized.

"Where are we going?" Norn asked Chloe.

"The abyss pool," Chloe replied, "is said to have a portal to the ninth level at the bottom."
