After walking a long way, the group finally arrived at the abyss pool.
Charles reined in his horse, dismounted, and turned to the group, saying, "Everyone, rest here for a bit and have something to eat to replenish your energy."
The moment the words left his mouth, almost everyone in the group collapsed to the ground.
"Damn it, finally I can rest..." a mithril-class adventurer with a full beard muttered, his voice full of exhaustion.
Uru was also feeling the strain and quickly found a rock to sit on.
The long march and lack of food left everyone exhausted.
After resting for a while, they took out the iron pot from their backpacks, looked around for fuel to start a fire, added some water, and started cooking porridge.
Shared reminded them to drink more water and then fill up at the pool, one of the few drinkable water sources in the underground city.
Norn cooked an extra lot of the porridge because he had to share a lot with Arno.
He put the remaining spoonfuls of paste in the pot into his mouth and found that it tasted much better than what Koroya and the others had.
It must be because of the added honey; although it's still sticky and hard to swallow, at least it tastes sweet.
Norn turned his head to see what Shared was eating.
The duke's son leaned against a protruding rock, his chestnut horse tethered beside him, head bowed, grazing on the few remaining weeds on the ground.
Shared was holding an iron pot, and the porridge inside was exactly the same as everyone else's.
He ate very slowly, chewing each bite for a long time before swallowing, his eyes fixed on the lake as if he were thinking about something.
When Norn saw this, his opinion of him improved considerably.
After eating, the dull atmosphere in the group livened up, and the sound of chatting began to emerge.
Charlotte finished the last bit of the paste, scraped the remaining paste off the bowl with her fingers, slurped it up, and then took a big gulp of water.
He stood up, walked over to the chestnut horse, slapped its rump hard, and let it gallop away into the distance.
"You...you just released him like that?" Koroya's eyes widened. "That was a good horse worth hundreds of gold coins..."
Shared walked back to the resting place and said to everyone, "Have you all finished eating? If you have, pack your things and get ready to go swimming."
The group quickly stuffed the iron pot back into their backpacks, extinguished the fire with sand, and then gathered by the pool with their bags on their backs.
"In a moment, Felix will cast a magical shield on each of you. This shield will be water-resistant, ensuring that you can breathe normally underwater."
"Once you enter the water, do not speak, do not open your eyes to look around, and do not use any light magic out of curiosity, as that will attract all sorts of monsters from the water."
"Finally," Sharred emphasized, "no matter what happens, please always remember that you are absolutely safe under Felix's protection. Don't let yourselves break down. Understand?"
After receiving responses from the crowd, Shared nodded to Felix.
Felix drew a jet-black magic wand from his waist, with a green magic crystal the size of a quail egg embedded in its head.
A pale yellow halo emanated from the magic crystal at the top of its staff, enveloping everyone. Then, the halo solidified, transforming into an oval shield covering each person.
Uru was the first to jump into the pool.
With a thud, Uru's body gradually became blurry.
Others followed one after another, and soon there was no one left on land.
Worried that Arno might move around underwater, Norn simply transferred his brain to Arno to temporarily control him.
As they went deeper, the light above them gradually receded, and only then did the team members begin to feel fear.
As they faced the prospect of falling into an endless, dark abyss, some people began to curl up, close their eyes tightly, and try their best not to look at the terrifying images.
Uru rested his hands behind his head, looking up at the tense guys. When his gaze swept over Norn, he suddenly laughed:
"You guys should really learn from Hohmann, this guy's already passed out from fright! Hahaha!"
"Uru! Shut up!" Shared glared, his voice distorted by the water, but it still silenced Uru.
Soon, the surroundings were completely plunged into darkness. Occasionally, a few pairs of demonic eyes could be seen emerging and lurking in the darkness, but they were clearly not interested in them and continued to wander aimlessly.
At this point, Norn somewhat understood why Shared had asked them not to open their eyes and look around.
Although there is little difference between opening and closing your eyes now, it is precisely because of this small difference that people feel particularly anxious.
Everywhere was a scene darker than black, and the surroundings were silent, with the sounds of flowing water and bubbles becoming the only background noise. The whole world seemed to have vanished into nothingness.
In such an environment, someone will inevitably go crazy, and if someone shouts, the suppressed emotions will instantly affect others.
Just then, Norn suddenly heard a suppressed scream from beside him.
That was Chloe's voice.
Because he was close to Arno, only Norn heard it.
Norn turned his head and saw a pair of fist-sized yellow eyes following them as they sank into the darkness.
Those eyes kept striking Chroya's shield, making rhythmic sounds. Chroya probably couldn't resist sneaking a peek, which is why she screamed in fright.
Norn had promised Daisy he would protect her husband, so he decided to help him out.
The crimson shield was released and then rapidly expanded, shattering the pale yellow shield that Felix had applied.
Norn then extended his hand from the shield toward the pair of yellow eyes.
When Norn felt a smooth, slippery touch in his palm, he knew he had caught it.
Norn clenched his fists tightly, then squeezed hard.
With a "poof," two yellow eyes shot out and quickly floated upwards.
After resolving this minor incident, a few more minutes passed.
In this dark environment, people's five senses become exceptionally acute, and the flow of time slows down, making a few minutes feel like hours.
To maintain his descent speed, Felix made his shield very small, almost like a coffin.
Even Norn felt somewhat oppressed in this dark and gloomy environment, so he slightly enlarged the size of the crimson shield to allow his limbs to move around.
Suddenly, Norn felt the sound of the water around him become rapid, but his vestibular system told him that he was not simply sinking, but spinning!
At first, the circumference was very long, but gradually, the rotation speed increased and the circumference decreased, as if it were filth in a toilet being flushed down the drain.
"Is it a portal? So the portal is actually a vortex!" Norn thought to himself.
