24. Won the bet
"This is it."
Norn rode a black wolf to the location Evan had indicated.
This is the main passage of the first level, littered with the remains of soldiers and horses that had been eaten, and a huge humanoid monster is lying on its side resting on the ground.
It has a robust body covered in thick black fur, two thick, curved horns on its head, and wings tucked under its body as a cushion.
Strangely, it was surrounded by all sorts of monsters, including black wolves, goblins, and several human-faced monkeys...
They sat quietly around the monster, neither making a sound nor causing a disturbance, as if afraid of disturbing its rest.
What's going on? Who turned on peace mode?
Leaving aside the fact that goblins and black wolves can sit together so harmoniously, and goblins riding black wolves to hunt are not unheard of, but it's absurd that a human-faced monkey would be so well-behaved.
These horse-like creatures eat even their own kind without hesitation, let alone these low-level monsters.
Norn cautiously walked over, circled around to the front of the humanoid monster, and pretended to blend in with the other monsters, sitting down with them.
Whether Norn made too much noise or the humanoid monster had slept enough, Norn hadn't even had a chance to sit down when the humanoid monster suddenly woke up.
A pair of blood-red eyes slowly opened, lazily sweeping over the monsters that had been waiting for so long. Then it stretched, changed its posture to lying on its back, and opened its mouth wide.
Then an astonishing scene unfolded: a goblin climbed onto the humanoid monster's body, took off its tattered leather clothes, and jumped into the monster's gaping maw.
The humanoid monster chewed with relish, the sounds of flesh tearing and bones breaking coming from its cheeks.
With a gulp, the humanoid monster spat out the goblin's broken bones, and then it was a black wolf's turn.
Perhaps because the black wolf's fur was too much and would affect the taste, several human-faced monkeys nearby picked up the black wolf and roughly peeled off its skin.
Even after its body was stripped to a bloody pulp, it didn't let out a single scream. Instead, it continued to do the same thing as the goblin, voluntarily jumping into the giant mouth of the humanoid monster.
The next second, several human-faced monkeys suddenly turned towards Norn.
"Oh no, it's my turn."
Norn took off running, but after a few steps, his limbs stopped uncontrollably, and he turned around and started walking back.
"This guy can actually control monsters!"
After several unsuccessful attempts to regain control of his body, Norn had no choice but to reclaim his brain.

The humanoid monster stopped chewing and stared at the tiny human slowly walking towards it.
He twisted his head and spat out a pile of broken bones.
He got up and suddenly spread his back with two wings. Only then did Norn realize that they were not wings, but two huge hands.
The humanoid monster roared and charged toward Norn with its feet stomping the ground.
Norn didn't flinch, his eyes rolled back and he collapsed.
Possession successful!
Norn stomped his foot firmly on the ground to steady his massive body.
"Ptooey! My mouth tastes fishy and stinky!"
He quickly bent down, grabbed a handful of sand, stuffed it into his mouth, swirled it around like he was rinsing his mouth, and spat it out, finally suppressing the fishy smell in his mouth.
Looking back, the monsters that hadn't been eaten were still sitting obediently.
"Stand up."
Norn silently gave them orders in his mind.
As expected, the monsters, upon receiving the command, stood up in unison and obeyed like puppets.
"I knew it! This guy really can control monsters!"
Norn crouched down and carefully picked up his own body and held it in his hands.
He then realized that he was incredibly light in the monster's hands, and that it could crush him if he wasn't careful.
So he then ordered the monkeys with human faces to come and carry his body.
After doing all this, Norn should find an auspicious place to seal Barnabas II.

Outside the underground city, as dusk fell, the day's cleanup work came to an end.
The soldiers and hired adventurers went home, and the bet on Norn's fate was settled.
Those who bet that Norn died in the dungeon won big, while those who bet on Norn escaping cursed and swore:
"What a bunch of idiots. They put on such a big show before they went there, thinking they could at least escape alive, but in the end, there wasn't even anyone to collect their bodies."
Inside the tent, Pinas tidied up, feeling disheartened, and prepared to go home after get off work when the curtain at the door was suddenly lifted.
Evan walked in and said, "Guild Master, the expedition team sent by the Adventurers' Guild has arrived."
"An expeditionary force?" Pinas looked bewildered. "I didn't request assistance from the guild."
"They were sent by the guild itself; the higher-ups know we're short-handed here."
"Is that so? Then let them in," Pinas said nonchalantly.
"Aren't you going to wait for Norn to come out?" Evan mocked.
"That kid? Heh." Pinas chuckled awkwardly. "I never thought he'd make it out alive; I was just playing around."
"Just playing around? President, in your eyes, that child's life is..."
"Hey, hey, let's not talk about that anymore. Hurry up and let the punitive expedition in to avenge the fallen soldiers and Norn. I'm going back."
After saying that, Pinas slunk away, feeling a pang of regret.
He got carried away with the excitement and joined the betting on Norn, but he bet that Norn would return victorious with the monster's corpse!
They originally thought they could make a fortune by taking advantage of the information gap between Norn and Louisa, but they ended up losing a fortune!
Who would have thought that Norn was just an arrogant and ignorant pretty face!
If he could turn back time, he would never have gambled like that with anyone—no, he would never have let Norn in!
Time passed, and the next day arrived.
Pinas overslept and rushed to the entrance of the dungeon, only to find the captain of the soldiers he had bet with the day before, the magic advisor, and others gathered in front of the tent.
Upon seeing Pinas approach, they all stuffed their bulging money bags into his hands.
"What's going on? What are you doing?" Pinas asked, puzzled.
"You won the bet, you old bastard."
They looked at Pinas with resentment and said.
"Huh!?" Pinas still didn't understand what was going on until someone pointed him in a direction.
Several wooden tables were set up in an open space; that was where the staff distributed breakfast.
Norn sat there eating breakfast, surrounded by members of the expedition team that had been sent into the dungeon the previous night.
Pinas stared in disbelief, then rushed over to Norn and asked, "You really killed that monster?"
Norn, with bread stuffed in his mouth, couldn't answer for a moment. One of the members of the subjugation team next to him spoke up for him:
"almost."
"What does 'roughly' mean? Is the monster dead or not?"
"When we arrived at the location, we didn't find the monster, so we started searching everywhere. Finally, we found Norn and the monster in Warren Valley."
The monster was hanging in the air, its entire body tightly bound by the tentacles of a terrifying nautilus.
