Norn huddled in the bamboo basket, his suppressed breathing clearly audible.

The arrow wound on my calf was still burning painful, and the blood had soaked through a large patch of my trouser leg, sticking stickily to my skin.

Xia Ya stood in front of the bamboo basket, watching the group of demi-humans disappear around the street corner.

"Lord Norn, they've gone far away, come out."

Norn lifted the tattered cloth covering the basket and tried to climb out, but ended up falling to the ground along with the basket.

Xia Ya quickly helped Norn up and asked, "How did you get involved with them?"

Norn then briefly recounted what had happened to Xia, and then made a request:

"Could you take me to your place? They must have sealed off the city gates, and they'll probably be checking every hotel. I have no choice but to stay at your place to avoid trouble."

Norn reached for the black leather pouch at his waist, intending to offer a bribe, but to his surprise, Xia readily agreed.

"However, my place is very shabby, please don't mind it."

"It's alright, lead the way."

Xia Ya supported Norn, and they avoided taking the main road whenever possible by using secluded alleys. As they walked, they also scouted the surroundings, afraid of being discovered by the demi-humans.

Along the way, Xia Ya shared her story with Norn.

After receiving the money from Norn, she rushed to Basel and found a bishop at the church to remove the curse.

The female bishop was a fan of Fury, and because Xia was so cute, she made an exception and charged Xia ten gold coins less.

With this windfall, Xia Ya came to live in Miguang City, intending to open a flower shop as a business.

As a result, his money was stolen, and he was left with only a few silver coins in his pocket. Helpless, he had no choice but to start selling flowers from street to street.

The two walked through alleys, and the prosperity of Miguang City gradually faded behind them, replaced by cramped stone walls and tattered clothes drying outside the windows.

The air was filled with the damp, musty smell and the stench of cheap grease, and the stone pavement underfoot was uneven and covered with murky sewage.

Finally, Xia Ya pointed to a two-story stone building and said, "My home is on the second floor."

As they went upstairs, Xia helped Norn into her small room.

The room was simply furnished with a rickety wooden bed, a ceramic pot, and a small wooden storage cabinet.

The paint on the walls had almost completely peeled off, revealing the rough stone bricks underneath; a thick rope stretched across both ends of the room, with several of Xia Ya's clothes hanging on it.

Xia Ya settled Norn on the creaking wooden bed, then quickly gathered up the clothes that were drying and stuffed them into the wooden cabinet.

This room might be enough for Xia Ya, but Norn thought it was ridiculously small.

Norn glanced around but didn't see any other rooms. "How do you usually go to the bathroom?"

Xia Ya blushed and pointed to the earthenware jar in the corner, saying, "Use this."

Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Norn took out five dragon coins from his bag and handed them to Xia: "Go buy me a bottle of medium-strength healing potion, and you can use the rest to buy yourself something to eat."

Xia Ya did as she was told, and a little over ten minutes later she returned with a bottle of healing potion and three pieces of roast beef wrapped in leaves.

"I'm back, Lord Norn! There are still ten silver scales left!"

"Keep it; consider it your errand fee."

Norn took the potion, and upon seeing its color, he knew that this silly girl had been tricked again; it was an ineffective healing potion.

Norn didn't say much, though; the injury to his foot had made his entire leg numb.

I popped the cork and drank it all in one gulp, and the pain in my calves finally eased a bit.

Xia handed Norn a piece of roast beef, then sat down next to him and lifted the leaf wrapping the beef. The rich aroma of the meat instantly filled the entire room, and Xia ate it with a happy expression.

"It smells so good! I've been craving this beef for ages, and today I finally got to eat it!"

Norn looked at Xia, whose mouth was dripping with oil, and his tense mood relaxed a little.

"Do you know why those demi-humans are hunting down humans?" Norn suddenly asked.

Xia swallowed a piece of beef and replied, "Recently, some humans in Miguang City have been abducting demi-human girls. Dozens of girls have already been kidnapped, and the chieftain is furious about it and has been investigating the matter!"

"Damn it, so the girl in their car was a trafficked girl!" Norn recalled the events of that night and wished he could go back and slap himself.

I never imagined that my kindness would make me an accomplice to evil!

The thought of those demi-human girls in shackles, locked in dark, sunless cages and sold like livestock to various places, made Norn feel as if his conscience was being cut by a dull knife.

Norn unconsciously clenched his fist over the beef, not letting go even when it was burned.

"Lord Norn, aren't you hot?" Xia asked with concern.

"I've thought it through, I'm going to turn myself in," Norn replied, bewildered.

"Thank you for your help. Consider this your reward. Use this money to open a real flower shop."

After saying this, Norn took off the black leather bag, left it on Xia's bed, and got up to leave.

Although Xia Ya didn't know how much money was inside, she knew from the exquisite workmanship of the leather bag that it contained a fortune she couldn't earn even if she sold flowers her whole life.

"This is too valuable! Lord Norn, I cannot accept it." Xia Ya struggled to pick up the heavy leather bag and tried to return it to Norn, but Norn pushed it back.

"This is just a small amount of money for me, don't be too polite." Norn used his sword as a crutch and limped downstairs.

Xia Ya trembled as she unfastened the leather clasp, and the sight of it filled with dragon coins instantly terrified her.

Norn emerged from the stone building, his face clouded with gloom.

Now those demi-humans definitely think he's one of Batel's men, and they're using all their forces to search the whole city for him, hoping to pry some useful information out of him.

But he really knew nothing. The time those demi-humans spent on him was a waste. Every second he hid was a continuation of his evil deeds.

Norn struggled back the way he came, and the crowd around him gradually increased. He came to the main street and kept searching for traces of those demi-humans.

Soon, the cat-man was spotted in the bustling crowd. He was riding a horse, with his subordinates following behind, looking around suspiciously.

Norn looked at it, and it saw Norn.

The next second, the cat-man stepped onto the horse's back, pushed off with both feet, and shot towards Norn like an arrow.

Norn threw the sword on the ground, raised his hands, and squatted down.

The cat-man was taken aback by this, and immediately put the needle sword he had pulled out in mid-air back in, landing lightly on the ground a few meters in front of Norn.

"What's wrong with you? Why did you suddenly squat down?" The cat-man, fearing something was amiss, cautiously scanned Norn's surroundings.

"There's a misunderstanding between us, and I've made a big mistake. These things can't be explained in a short time. Take me back and I'll explain slowly."

The cat-man looked at Norn suspiciously for a moment, then shouted to his men behind him, "Take him away!"
