Sun Wukong was bestowed the title of Victorious Fighting Buddha at the Great Thunderclap Temple in the Western Paradise, but he resigned from the position and returned to Flower Fruit Mountain to live in seclusion. At the victory celebration, a monkey suddenly appeared and declared: "Hehehe, Great Sage, you have rendered meritorious service by protecting Tang Sanzang on his journey to the West, and have been promoted to a high position and attained enlightenment, accumulating boundless merit; you possess seventy-two transformations, immortality through countless eons; you ride the somersault cloud, covering 108,000 li in a single leap; you have broken the genetic lock, making you invincible in battle; you have mastered the Heaven-Covering Technique, possessing vast supernatural powers; now you have crossed the sea of suffering and reached the other shore. Why not pierce a hole in the sky with your staff, storm the Southern Heavenly Gate, storm the Hall of Universal Brightness, tear down the plaque of the Lingxiao Palace, and demand that the Jade Emperor cede the Jade Heaven to me!"
