Chapter 81 The Ghostly Lamp at Dawn

"Hey Batman, Superman, is the battle over?"

The doors to the Justice League Hall were flung open, and Hal Jordan, the greatest Green Lantern ever, arrived late.

He wore a green-light uniform, the light ring on his finger emitting a faint green glow, and his face showed a hurried expression. He strode into the hall, his gaze quickly sweeping over the crowd. Some were resting, some were chatting, and some were healing.

Hal sighed helplessly, a hint of resentment in his voice: "Oh, Cameron, why is it like this again!"

Barry the Flash appeared before Hal, leaving a trail of golden and red afterimages, holding a half-eaten hamburger in his hand, his cheeks bulging. He swallowed the food in his mouth and said with a grin, "Hal, do you want us to go even more horribly? Like in the movies, with arms and legs severed?"

"Stop joking, Barry." Hal grabbed Barry's neck and tucked his head under his arm. "Tell me, what happened?"

Barry emerged from under Hal's armpit, took two steps back, stuffed the rest of the hamburger into his mouth in a few bites, and gave a vague, brief account of what had happened.

When Barry mentioned the "Divine Ring," Hal reacted violently, his mouth agape and his voice trembling: "That coward is actually my parallel universe counterpart?!"

He raised his right hand, staring at the green light ring on his hand with a complicated expression.

At that moment, the main doors of the Justice League Hall opened again. Su Mo and Superman Clark walked in side by side; the two had just returned from the Lonely Fortress in Antarctica.

There, Su Mo underwent a full examination and a thorough scan. The results showed he was healthy, with no abnormalities, except for a faint, mysterious drop of metal within his body.

Superman was using the detectors at Lonely Fortress to try and analyze the composition of the drop of metal. But no matching record was found in Krypton's database.

Superman suspected it might be the primordial metal—Element X, a legendary substance that supposedly created the universe. During the investigation, Superman carefully manipulated the instrument and gently touched the drop of metal.

The metal trembled slightly. An invisible wave emanated from Su Mo's body, penetrating the walls of the Lonely Fortress, spreading throughout the entire Earth, and even resounding in the depths of the universe.

Su Mo walked into the hall and saw Hal Jordan talking to Barry. He raised an eyebrow slightly. He asked, "Oh, Hal Jordan, you've arrived? Did you see the Divine Ring on your way back? It would be best to destroy that dangerous lamp ring."

Hal turned around, nodded, and gritted his teeth: "It should indeed be destroyed, but we haven't seen it. I've already notified the Green Lantern Corps to search the entire universe. Once they find any trace of the Ring, they'll report it immediately."

"How many people did you send to investigate?" Su Mo asked cautiously.

Hal made a "seven" gesture, then, seeing Su Mo's expression change slightly, quickly explained, "It's seven, but don't worry. The 'five green lights mean total annihilation' thing is a rumor spread by Sinestro, don't believe it."

His tone was somewhat awkward, and Barry, who was watching nearby, chuckled softly.

"That would be for the best." Su Mo's gaze lingered on Hal's face, a hint of distrust in his eyes.

"Haha, let's not talk about this anymore," Barry chimed in at the right moment, trying to smooth things over between the two.

Su Mo shook her head and didn't continue the conversation.

The door on the other side of the hall was pushed open, and Martian hunter John Jones floated in, holding a data report in his hand, his face solemn.

"Su Mo, we've detected energy fluctuations from the power ring." He stopped in front of Su Mo and unfolded the holographic report in mid-air. "But suspiciously, it's getting closer to us."

Su Mo frowned. Quan Jie had clearly flown away from the solar system, so why did it turn back?

"What's going on? Why did the Ring of Power return? Did Hal Jordan, who discovered this universe, think his host wasn't dead?"

Before he could finish his thought, the alarm in the Justice League lobby blared. Red alarm lights flashed and spun rapidly on the walls, and the piercing siren bounced throughout the lobby.

An emergency communication from the watchtower popped up on the holographic screen.

A green energy barrier has appeared at the edge of the solar system, expanding at a visible rate and slowly enveloping the entire solar system.

Superman reacted the fastest. He stood up, his cape billowing behind him, and his voice was steady and powerful: "Justice League, attack!"

Before he finished speaking, he had already taken to the air, bursting through the skylight of the hall and flying towards the universe. Su Mo followed closely behind, his feet leaving the ground and passing directly through the roof.

Hal Jordan raised the Green Lantern ring, green energy enveloping his entire body, and he too transformed into a green streak of light, disappearing into the night sky.

Barry stood in the center of the hall, watching the three figures fly away, hands on his hips, and complained helplessly, "Why can't I fly?"

Then he obediently turned around and ran towards the hangar of the Alliance ship, waiting for Batman and Wonder Woman to arrive.

------

In the universe, Superman and Su Mo quickly arrived at the edge of the solar system. They hovered in the void, and the scene before them made them both stop simultaneously.

A pale green energy barrier stretches across the outer edge of the solar system, like a semi-transparent eggshell, enveloping the entire galaxy.

Hal, the Green Lantern, caught up from behind and, seeing the two figures pause, felt a surge of curiosity. He looked over their shoulders and into the depths of the barrier, at the true culprit who was using Green Lantern energy to envelop the solar system.

Then he was stunned.

"Batman?!" Hal exclaimed in surprise.

At the center of the barrier, a person dressed in a green Lantern uniform floated in the void. His face was exactly like Bruce Wayne's, with sharp features and a strong jawline.

Su Mo's face turned extremely pale, and his voice became grave: "No, he's not Batman. He is—the Dawn Lantern."

"Oh, so someone actually knows me." The voice of Dawn Lamp came from deep within the barrier, with a mocking tone.

The Dawn Lantern is a story about Bruce from Earth-32. After his parents were killed when he was young, he fell into a void. The Green Lantern ring mistakenly believed that Bruce had a will beyond that of ordinary people, so it chose him as its host.

Bruce, having obtained the Green Lantern ring, broke its limitations, killed the murderer, then slaughtered criminals, killed Gordon, fought against the Green Lantern Corps, awakened the Lights Out program, and wiped out the Corps and the Guardians.

In the very end, his universe crumbled, and he was recruited by the Batman Who Laughs, who promised to resurrect his parents.

His body emerged from the green light and slowly flew to the three of them, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

"So you're the Justice League of this Earth, huh?" He grinned, revealing a cruel smile. "Then, you can all die."

As soon as he finished speaking, the green light ring on his hand suddenly lit up with a blinding green light. Countless materialized monsters poured out of his ring.

The twisted, alien energy entities came in various shapes and sizes. Some resembled giant bats with outstretched wings; others looked like swollen monsters covered in pustules; still others resembled parallax demons, their enormous bodies writhing in the air and emitting piercing screams. They swarmed towards the three like locusts, densely packed and endless.

"Drink!" Superman and Su Mo simultaneously fired heat rays, two red-gold beams sweeping across the void, blasting the monsters in the front row apart one by one.

Hal Jordan also raised his Green Lantern Ring, manifesting rows of fighter jets and cannons. Green energy projectiles rained down like a storm, blasting the monster horde to pieces.

Watching Hal's actions, Dawn's Ghost Lamp's smile deepened. He casually waved his hand, and several figures enveloped in green energy suddenly flew out from the dark void behind him. They were entangled in green light and thrown towards Hal.

"Kilowogg! Guy! Greenman!" Hal's eyes widened suddenly. He rushed forward and used his Light Ring to create a huge green safety net, catching the unconscious Green Lanterns one by one.

His heart was filled with rage, and the lamp ring sensed his emotions, radiating a powerful light that shone like a burning green sun in the universe.

Hal gently placed his Green Light teammates at a distance, then turned around, his expression shifting from anger to resolve.

He raised his right hand, the light from his green lantern ring growing brighter and more dazzling. He recited the Green Lantern Corps oath, his voice powerful:

"Bright daylight, dark night; demons and monsters have nowhere to hide. Evil traitors and wicked parties fear my divine light; the green light shines eternally!"

The light of the ring was concentrated to its fullest extent within the oath, accumulating extraordinary energy enough to destroy a planet.

"Oops."

Looking at Hal's lamp ring, Su Mo suddenly remembered the terrifying ability of the Dawnbreaker Lamp—the extinguishing program, capable of absorbing all light and extinguishing the energy of all lamp rings. His telepathic connection loudly warned Hal in his mind: "Hal, high-frequency flash!"

At the same moment, the Dawn Lantern raised its right hand, its ring also glowing. His voice turned icy, like a pronouncement from the abyss:

"The night is vast and dark, extinguishing all light! The day is long and waning, soon to be over! The first glimmer of dawn breaks, the midnight is endless! The eerie lamp burns forever, piercing the darkness of daybreak!"

"Lights out procedure initiated!"

A dark force field erupted from his lamp ring, like a giant black net, instantly enveloping the entire space. Light was absorbed, starlight extinguished, and the green energy condensed on the HAL lamp ring rapidly dissipated as if being pumped away, the light growing dimmer and weaker.

Hal sensed his energy running out. A flicker of fear crossed his mind, but he quickly suppressed it.

He heard Su Mo's reminder and simultaneously overcame his fear of the unknown. His inner willpower, like a volcano ignited, infused the lamp ring with new energy. The lamp ring's light flashed briefly in the darkness, faint yet resolute.

Hal raised his right hand, and the green light ring on his thumb began to flash at an extremely high frequency. The high-frequency flashes broke through the dark domain of the Dawn Lantern, tearing a crack in the darkness.

"Hal, well done!" Superman, who was also trapped in darkness, spoke to Hal telepathically, his voice filled with encouragement.

"Now, Martian Hunter!" Su Mo issued the command to the Martian Hunter who had been lurking in the mind link.

Behind the Dawn Lantern, a green figure suddenly appeared in the void. Martian Hunter John Jones, who had been in stealth and phase-shift mode, lurked behind the Dawn Lantern, waiting for his chance to strike.

The Dawn Lantern struggled violently, and several monsters materialized within its ring, lunging at Martian Hunter. Jones ignored them; his body became ethereal, and the monsters' claws pierced through him.

Immediately afterwards, his body solidified in mid-air, his hands and legs transformed into thick green tentacles, which tightly locked Dawn Lamp's limbs, binding him like a rice dumpling.

At the same time, one of his hands had already reached for the ring of the Dawn Lamp, and he was trying to pry it off.

"Damn it!" Dawn Lamp gritted his teeth, the energy in the lamp ring surging wildly, trying to reactivate the lamp-off program.

But he didn't get his chance.

Superman and Su Mo emerged from the darkness. One on each side, they simultaneously raised their fists, their knuckles brimming with power enough to shatter planets. Red capes and black afterimages traced parallel paths through the void.

Two fists, growing larger and larger, were reflected in the pupils of the Dawn Lamp.

"Bang--!"

Two fists slammed into his head simultaneously. Dawn's Ghost Lamp's eyes rolled back, his body stiffened, and then he went limp and lay motionless.

"How do I remove the lamp ring?" Martian Hunter, still bound with the Dawn Lantern, asked anxiously.

"Chop it down."

Su Mo looked at the unconscious Dawnlight, his gaze lingering on the ringed hands on his body. He hesitated for a moment; he had originally intended to say "Kill him," but seeing Superman beside him, he changed his mind: "Cut off his hands."

Su Mo raised his hand and brought his knife down, the blade whistling through the air as he precisely severed Dawn's Ghost Lamp's right hand.

The green light ring lit up the instant it slipped from the hand, as if trying to escape.

Hal reacted swiftly, conjuring a sealed green prison within his ring, trapping the severed hand and the ring inside. The ring's green light surged and thrashed within the prison, causing the inner walls to vibrate, but it failed to break through.
