Alien invasion? Luckily, I'm Superman.
Chapter 89 Zombies? Nightmare Come True
Su Mo's spaceship hovered above the Russian Red House base, which was the location from which the signal was sent.
The buildings below were a somber gray, like a crouching, iron-gray behemoth, with walls covered in repaired bullet holes and dried black bloodstains.
Several crooked antennas jutted out from the roof, swaying slightly in the cold wind.
"State your purpose, state your purpose." A woman's voice came from the loudspeaker, her voice full of energy.
At the same time, several defensive turrets on the wall immediately charged and rotated, their infrared aiming beams locking onto Su Mo's spaceship, leaving several swaying red dots on its fuselage.
Su Mo pressed the call button, and her voice came through the spaceship's external speakers: "Ahem, I'm here to help you. It seems your world has been invaded by a zombie virus, and I can help you solve the problem."
Inside the base, Melina Voskov stared at the monitor screen, her eyes lighting up.
The spaceship in the picture has sleek and advanced lines, unlike anything that could be built with the technology of this world that has been in ruins for five years.
The fact that people can still fly around in these spaceships, and that they aren't incapable zombies, suggests that there is still hope for Earth.
She pressed the microphone, her tone becoming enthusiastic, even carrying a hint of barely suppressed urgency: "Oh, really? Then hurry up and come down. Another 'superhero'! These days, living people are rarer than zombies."
Su Mo nodded, hovering the spaceship above the base. He then slowly flew out of the tail hatch and landed in front of Melina.
The cold wind lashed his face, and the spaceship behind him silently adjusted its attitude, hovering steadily in mid-air.
Melina was wearing a slightly worn black combat uniform, her hair was tied back with a rubber band, and two modified pistols were holstered at her waist.
She is a Black Widow agent and top scientist trained by the Red House, the Black Widow's adoptive mother, and possesses both superb combat skills and technological research and development capabilities.
After the zombie outbreak in this world, she developed a technique to control some of the zombies using pheromones, turning them into the base's outer defense force. This was also the key to the Red Room base's ability to survive for five years in the apocalypse.
Su Mo recalled the plot she had seen in her previous life, and the thought of those three idiotic protagonists made her so angry she could hardly breathe.
Kamala Khan, a harbinger of disaster, brings death wherever she goes. In the original series, her arrival destroyed the entire base, and Melina died covering her retreat.
He decided he had to control those idiots the moment he saw them.
A tall figure suddenly appeared from behind Melina, grabbed Su Mo's shoulder, and clapped his hands loudly.
Alexei, the Red Guardian, wore a red striped outfit with a silver five-pointed star on the chest. He had a thick beard and grinned, saying, "Hey, dashing man, just like me! So, what's your superhero title?"
Su Mo expressionlessly removed his arm from her shoulder and said succinctly, "Superman."
Alexei paused for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Great name! Even more impressive than my 'Red Guardian'!" He then tried to put his hand on hers.
Su Mo stepped aside to avoid the attack, then turned to Melina and asked, "What's the basic situation in this world?"
Melina didn't waste any words and went straight to the point: "It's been five years since the zombie crisis broke out. Five years ago, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and the others went to the fallen Wakanda to try to stop the infected Thanos, but they failed. However, before Black Panther died, he used the Mind Stone to trap Thanos in an illusion, so Thanos is still stuck in Wakanda and hasn't moved an inch."
As Su Mo listened, he scanned the layout of the base.
The corridor was narrow, and the ventilation duct grilles on the ceiling were held together by just a few twisted wires. The defenses at the door were piled with ammunition boxes and medical kits, but not many.
The armory door in the base was half-open, revealing only a few rows of empty shelves. It seemed that the base had been able to hold out for so long entirely thanks to Melina's pheromone-controlled zombie-manipulation technique; otherwise, everyone would have been infected long ago.
"So how do you plan to deal with the zombie virus?" Melina finally asked this question after saying a lot.
"Send them away first. It'll be safer that way," Su Mo said.
Melina frowned. "What do you mean?" she asked, her tone wary, her fingers subtly resting on the hilt of the gun at her waist.
"Literal meaning. I'll send you to a safe space first. Or should I let you join the battle?"
Su Mo didn't dodge, nor did he look at the pistol at her waist. His tone was blunt and almost stabbing. "If you really had enough strength, how come you only control such a small area?"
Melina loosened her fingers from the gun handle. She completely ignored Su Mo's offensive words; if being offended by a single sentence could save her, she would gladly be roasted every day.
Her voice trembled slightly: "What? You can send us off Earth?"
Su Mo nodded, raised his right arm, and the blue energy ring on Kang the Conqueror's gauntlet began to rotate, facing Earth in his own Marvel universe.
"Alright, you can see if I'm right or not. Let's go."
He raised his foot and kicked Alexei, who had been trying to lean on his shoulder, into the blue portal. The Red Guardian stumbled and fell, rolling twice on the other side of the portal before getting up, covered in dust.
Three seconds later, he rushed back through the portal, his face filled with ecstatic joy. He grabbed Melina's sleeve and stammered, "Over there, over there is a completely different world! No zombies! No virus! A clean Earth!"
Melina stared at Su Mo with a complicated expression, as if she wanted to say something but swallowed it back.
Parallel universes, time travel technology. This person is no ordinary superhero.
But she hesitated for less than two seconds before turning and walking deeper into the base, shouting as she went, her voice bouncing back and forth in the corridor: "Everyone assemble! Everyone assemble! Don't bring anything, let's go!"
Crowds poured out of the rooms. Some were cleaning their guns, others were carrying children; they crowded in the corridor, chattering amongst themselves, unsure what was happening. Some were asking if zombies had attacked, while others said they hadn't seen any.
Melina stood on the high platform and pressed her hands down, and the corridor became quiet.
"Everyone, our suffering is temporarily over. Let's all go through the portal. On the other side is a normal world without zombies." Her voice wasn't loud, but every word resonated like a nuclear bomb in everyone's ears.
After a few seconds of silence, cheers erupted.
Some people cried, some knelt on the ground, and then burst into laughter. Five years of fear, loss, and despair were all squeezed out of their chests at this moment, turning into a cacophony of sounds.
Alexei wiped his eyes and shouted, "Line up! Line up! Don't push!"
Yelena stepped out of the crowd and stood beside the portal, counting people one by one. Her uniform was a bit too short, revealing a small section of her wrist with several light-colored old scars.
Su Mo stood aside, watching everything coldly, already planning her next move.
Melina was the last to reach the portal. She stopped, turned around to look at Su Mo, and her lips moved as if she wanted to say something to express her gratitude, but in the end she didn't say it.
She changed to a more relaxed tone: "You've helped us so much, how can we possibly thank you? Would you like me to introduce you to my daughter?"
Su Mo was taken aback. Melina's daughter? Wasn't that Natasha and Yelena, the Black Widows?
Natasha was dead; only Yelena remained. He instinctively looked in the other direction of the portal, just as Yelena turned around and saw him.
She wore a black combat vest, her golden-brown hair was tied back, and her light-colored eyes shone brightly in the dim light. She gave Su Mo a grateful look, then turned back to continue directing the crowd.
Su Mo withdrew her gaze, thought for a moment, and shook her head: "Never mind, we'll talk about it later. After you go there, you can join my company and help out. It won't be too difficult."
Melina shook her head, sighed as if she were lamenting for her daughter, and then stepped into the portal, where blue light converged behind her.
The portal is closed.
The base was empty; only the sound of the wind howling in through the broken windows filled the corridor.
Su Mo didn't leave. He found a reasonably intact chair, moved it to the base entrance, faced the snowfield, and sat down. He was waiting, waiting for those three idiotic protagonists to deliver the goods to his door.
In the original series, the zombie Scarlet Witch doesn't bite or kill anyone, but she relentlessly pursues Kamala, chasing and killing her all the way. If Kamala isn't a local spy, then there's only one possibility.
Su Mo guessed that the root of everything might be Kamala. If she didn't possess anything special, what normal person would pester a mentally challenged person so persistently?
It didn't take long.
In the distance, at the edge of the snowfield, a cloud of snow dust, like a white tail, rose closer and closer, accompanied by the roar of motorcycles.
