Chapter 190 Snape's Empathy
Chapter 190 Snape's Empathy
"How could that be, Louis!" Harry wanted to retort, but couldn't help but subconsciously believe Louis's words.
To be honest, although Louis occasionally makes jokes, they are all harmless. When it comes to important matters, he has never harmed anyone.
Except for Death Eaters.
Harry's voice trailed off. He stared at Louis and changed his tone again: "Okay, Louis, if it's you saying it, I think... well, I could probably believe you."
Sirius slapped himself in the face. If James knew this from beyond the grave, and saw his son treating Emma's son like this, he'd probably regret ever having given birth to such a child...
Oh, my apologies, Black has come to terms with it again. It's James who has a grudge against Emma, not him and Harry.
What does it mean to forget your friends for the sake of a pretty face?
However, unlike his godfather, Harry was unable to earn Cho Chang's forgiveness in his fifth year.
Louis looked at Black and, with Lupin's corroboration, revealed everything about Peter Pettigrew.
"No! Impossible! My Banban..." Ron couldn't accept it either. Rather than saying he couldn't bear to part with Banban, it would be more accurate to say he was running away from it. Think about it, Ron often cuddles Banban while sleeping. Can you accept cuddling a middle-aged, greasy man while sleeping?
For the wealthy, it's a separate deal.
But no one pitied Ron, not even Hermione. She jumped out as if she saw a pile of dissertations. Actually, she didn't want to do this, but now she couldn't help but feel that Ron had a lingering greasy smell of a middle-aged man.
"My freckles live in my house now..."
At this point, Ron realized what was going on. The proprietress of the rat tonic had said that rats only live for three or four years at most.
"More than ten years! Right!" Sirius Black immediately chimed in, "Think about it, how could an ordinary mouse live for more than ten years!"
Ron seemed to have been hit with a critical strike, and he instantly lost all his energy and spirit, just like a character in an anime who has lost his color. He was in a state of having lost his dreams.
"Ah, it's lost its color," Louis said, looking at Ron with a hint of schadenfreude.
Scabbers, or rather Peter Pettigrew, was still running frantically on the ground, but Dumbledore was clearly different from Lupin and Black in the original stories. With a gentle wave of his hand, Scabbers was pulled in front of him, and then, using some kind of spell, the mouse fell to the floor. Another dazzling flash, and then, like a fast-forwarded shot of a tree growing, a slick, balding head appeared on the ground. Limbs then emerged, and a moment later, a middle-aged, obese, greasy man stood where Scabbers had been, cowering and wringing his hands.
This guy was very short, not much taller than Harry and Hermione; being at least 1.6 meters tall was a blessing. His thin, light-colored hair was unkempt and grew in a messy, chicken-nest-like manner, with a large bald patch on top. He looked like an obese person who had lost a lot of weight in a short period of time, somewhat resembling a Shar Pei. His skin was very dirty, almost like his mottled fur, and his pointed nose and watery little eyes had a rat-like appearance. He looked at everyone, breathing rapidly and weakly. Harry saw his eyes glance towards the door and then quickly look away.
"Oh, Headmaster Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall." Scabbers... no, Peter Pettigrew awkwardly greeted the two people blocking his way. Professor McGonagall looked at Peter, drew her wand and pointed it at him shakily, her other hand on her chest, panting heavily.
She was clearly unable to accept that her former student had become like this, and seemed heartbroken for having misunderstood Blake in the past.
"It seems we need an explanation, Peter." Dumbledore stared at Peter with a clearly amused look, and reached out to stop Black from lunging at him.
"You coward! Why did you betray James and Lily! Why did you betray James and Lily!!!" Sirius Black demanded hysterically.
"I...I didn't want to either," Peter said, shrinking back with his obese body, tears streaming down his face. "The Dark Lord, the Dark Lord is too terrifying! You have no idea what kind of power he has..." He then turned to Black. "Ask yourself, Sirius. You know I'm right, don't you? If you were in his shoes, you would have made the same choice, wouldn't you!"
Little did anyone know that those words were like a spark thrown into a powder keg, instantly igniting Black's temper. He lunged forward like a madman, only to be held back by Louise and Harry. He could only roar furiously, "I'd rather die! I'd rather die than betray my friends! Coward!"
Snape, standing to the side, clearly understood what had happened. He glanced at Peter and Sirius with a flickering look in his eyes, thinking that even so, the old score from over a decade ago would not be forgotten...
That's true. Those who are bullied in school often have psychological scars. James fans often have a misconception that Snape and the others bullied each other... Do you believe that? One person bullying four people? If Snape were exceptionally strong, that would be one thing, but the key point is that even excluding the cowardly Peter Pettigrew, James, Sirius Black, and Lupin are all formidable fighters. Snape might not be able to easily win in a one-on-one fight...
Seeing Sirius Black's unreasonable attitude, Peter Pettigrew immediately changed his target. He turned to Harry and pleaded repeatedly, "Harry, think of James! We're best friends. If it were your father, he wouldn't want me killed. He would forgive me, he would let me go..."
"How dare you mention James!" Sirius, held tightly by the two men, had no choice but to spit on Peter.
Seeing that Harry was unmoved, Peter changed his target, this time to Ron: "Ron, look at me, aren't we good friends? Aren't I a good pet? Aren't I a good mouse? I've been with you for over ten years..."
It would have been fine if he hadn't mentioned it, but once he did, Ron was utterly disgusted. He quickly ran behind Hermione, trying to escape Peter's harassment.
"Hermione, you're a smart girl, you're a kind girl, you'll definitely persuade them to spare me, you will!" Peter Pettigrew, unwilling to give up, went to Hermione again, only to be met with a glare.
"Louis, Your Highness Louis, save me! I'm still useful! I don't want to die! Turn me into a maggot, or even a Floppy caterpillar, just don't kill me..." Peter finally clung to Louis as his last hope.
"You should ask Professor McGonagall, after all, her Animagus is a cat," Louis said, pointing to Professor McGonagall behind Peter.
Professor McGonagall really didn't want to see his disgraceful state, so with a wave of her wand, she bound him completely and gagged him tightly.
"This is a binding charm to deal with Animagus." Professor McGonagall casually put away her wand and walked toward Sirius Black.
She reached out and stroked Sirius's gaunt face.
"You've suffered, Sirius..."
Sirius, who had always been an incredibly tough guy, seemed to have his mental defenses shattered in an instant. He suddenly knelt down in front of Professor McGonagall, hugged her legs, and wailed like a child weighing only a hundred pounds.
"Good boy... good boy..." Professor McGonagall murmured, stroking Sirius's hair.
"It seems Professor McGonagall does indeed have a penchant for patting people's heads," Louis thought to himself.
"Excuse my intrusion, but I still have to ask a rather jarring question: what should we do with Peter?" Snape seemed determined to be sarcastic, and Professor McGonagall almost wanted to give him a good whack. "I would suggest handing him over to the Dementors, what do you think?"
"Harry, what do you think?" With a hint in Dumbledore's eyes, Louis patted Harry beside him, handing him the decision.
"Let's hand him over to the Ministry of Magic. Mr. Black is, after all, a good friend of my father's, and I don't want..." Harry said, glancing at Sirius Black, who was staring blankly at him. "I don't want him to remain unjustly accused either, and I think my father would do the same."
"Actually, you know what, Harry," Louise ruffled Professor McGonagall's hair, "Sirius isn't some Mr. Black, he's your godfather."
"What..." Harry looked at Louise in surprise, then at Black who had already stood up, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.
"Alright, it's settled then. I'll inform Fudge to come over now. We can all wait here for a bit." After Dumbledore finished speaking, Fawkes let out a clear cry and left Hogwarts Castle through Lewis's window.
Louis, who was practically the master of his own office, decided that it wasn't appropriate to drink tea in the evening. So he asked Christa to serve everyone moonberry juice, dried fruit preserves, and other snacks. Everyone ate while they waited, but of course, Peter Pettigrew didn't get any.
Sirius sat next to Harry, and he seemed strangely reserved. After a long pause, he finally spoke, "If, well, you still want to stay at your uncle's, I can understand, but if you want a different home..."
At this point, Sirius flinched slightly, not daring to look Harry in the eye, his gaze flickering as he looked at the moonberry juice in his glass.
He was really afraid that Harry would reject him, really afraid.
"So, are you going to live with me?" Harry asked, looking up.
"It's just an idea. If you don't want to, I can understand," Sirius said, looking down.
"Are you kidding me?" Harry shouted, drawing everyone's attention. He noticed everyone staring at him, especially Professor Snape's eyes—the kind that looked like he wanted to devour Sirius alive—a look Harry had seen on Voldemort's face when he was possessed by Professor Quirrell, the same look he'd seen on him. He lowered his voice, "How could I possibly disagree! Good heavens, I've been itching to leave the Dursleys since I can remember, let alone live with you, my godfather… Of course I'd love to, I'd love to!"
Sirius was stunned for a moment, then his face was filled with ecstasy. He held Harry's hand tightly and refused to let go for a long time. It looked like he would have burst into tears if he hadn't been holding back.
"I should remind you that Mr. Pott, who is not very bright, and his dog godfather, Pott has a bloodline curse. As long as he is in the Dursleys' house, he will not be found by Voldemort."
Snape slowly began to spoil the mood; he simply couldn't stand seeing Sirius happy.
"I think it's fine, Professor." Louis shrugged and looked at Dumbledore. "Rather than letting Harry be a hothouse flower, you should let him experience some storms. You saw how well he did in the Spider Forest last year, and of course, Ron too."
Upon hearing Louis call his name, Ron reluctantly muttered, "If you say there are swarms of giant spiders there, I wouldn't go even if you killed me."
"See? This is your limitation." Louis shrugged. "What do you call a spider? It's clearly a Scottish soft-shell crab... And Sirius Black is the same; he'd rather starve and eat mice than hunt a few spiders and roast them."
"Eat rats?" Ron keenly grasped the key phrase. He was allergic to rats, but he quickly realized what he meant and asked in a low voice, "You...eat that stuff every day?"
"I'm a fugitive," Sirius laughed nonchalantly. "If the Dementors find out where I am, it'll be a big problem. Besides, what's a few rats to me for Harry's safety?"
As he spoke, he reached out and patted Harry on the shoulder.
Ron lowered his eyes and looked at Harry: "He must love you very much, Harry. Think about it, he'd eat a mouse for you..."
Harry looked at Sirius, his eyes red-rimmed.
"I feel like throwing up..." Snape muttered nauseatingly and slowly from the side.
Harry automatically ignored Snape's sarcastic remarks, but Sirius, who had always been at odds with him, couldn't stand it. He chuckled and looked at Snape: "I hope you'll put away your big nose. I can also use the Upside-Down Bell Curse, you snotty-nosed devil."
The word "snotty-nosed" seemed to flip a switch on Snape, causing him to spring up instantly and stare at Sirius with a look of utter disbelief.
"You'll regret this, Black." Snape stared intently at Sirius Black. After a long while, he tossed his robes and was about to leave when he saw Peter Pettigrew cowering in fear. He snorted and sat back down.
However, his eyes were still fixed on Sirius with hostility.
Sirius didn't care; he raised his glass towards Snape.
Hate me? Go ahead and hate me, I don't care what you do anyway, you snotty-nosed brat.
Lewis looked at Snape with a look of sudden realization: "So that's how it is, Professor Snape. No wonder you helped Neville deal with Marcus and the others before you enrolled. You felt the same way about them..."
Bringing up the sore spot is one thing, but Louis was clearly doing it on purpose.
"Langlock!"
Louis's energy shield easily blocked Snape's spell, and Snape, seeing Louis still alive and kicking, couldn't help but grit his teeth.
"He won't understand, Louis," Sirius's voice rang out at just the right moment.
