Chapter 20 Come to my office on the weekend
"What a silly deer. {What? You don't know? | Read.COM, error-free chapter reading | Go Google it now.}" The senior's eyes were filled with pity: "Do you think my IQ is the same as yours? I'm still young, I don't want to experience being buried alive."
With that, she reluctantly returned the wand to Louis.
"A very good wand, Little Deer." The usually sharp-tongued senior actually praised the wand for the first time.
"Keep it. It seems you need this wand more than I do." Louise pushed the wand back to her senior.
The system rated the wand as a +20% improvement. Since Louis wasn't particularly interested in fire spells anyway, he decided to do a favor.
Only by building a good relationship can you make more unreasonable demands, like... hehehe?
The senior student looked stunned for a moment, then asked with a hint of disbelief, "You mean... give it to me? Are you out of your mind, Mountbatten? You probably don't understand the value of this wand—"
Even the deer have stopped calling.
"Don't worry, no one understands the value of this wand better than me." Louis spread his arms and made a classic gesture: "I may need you to take me on nighttime walks many more times in the future, consider this payment."
He said it in a relaxed tone.
Catherine stared at Louis for a moment, then finally said softly, "Thank you."
"I'm actually a little unaccustomed to you not being sarcastic. I still prefer your... well, sarcastic and arrogant side. Try to get back to that..."
The cold wand pressed against his chin.
"We'll have venison tonight." A dangerous glint flashed in the senior's eyes.
Louis wisely kept his mouth shut.
When they returned to the castle, it was already dawn. After tiptoeing back to his bedroom, Louis took out the two mysterious pet eggs, one large and one small, and placed them on the bedside table.
According to the instructions, it will take two more days for the hatching to occur.
Good things come to those who wait, and with a contented heart, Louis drifted off to sleep.
The only Defense Against the Dark Arts class on Thursday was rather late, and seeing the expectant looks on the faces of his classmates, Louis couldn't bear to shatter their illusions—he'd let them be happy for a little while longer.
A damp room, a musty smell—that was the students' first impression of Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Thick curtains completely blocked out the midday sun, and together with the oddly shaped potted plants, created an eerie atmosphere throughout the room. The bewildered young wizards even thought they had traveled through time.
The room got even worse after Professor Quirrell, who was wearing a large headscarf, entered. The lingering, pungent smell of garlic made the students roll their eyes.
Professor Quirrell appeared harmless, with a touch of naivety and shyness, even when facing wizards much younger than him. He seemed quite nervous. He stammered as he greeted everyone, adjusting his large headscarf.
Draco sat down next to Louis and muttered, "They actually let someone like this be the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. If my dad finds out, he'll definitely ask the board to fire him."
"Indeed." Louis nodded in agreement, though he didn't particularly like the teacher either.
But his reasons were completely different from Draco's.
Just like playing video games, Louis always believed that people fall into two categories: those who are bad at the game, who are simply not skilled enough to win and can easily come back in the next round, and he was always very tolerant of them; and those who deliberately feed the enemy, who are bad, but completely different from bad players. Whenever he encountered such a bad guy, Louis would kindly give him a mouthful of oral exercises.
If Professor Quirrell is just bad at the game, that's perfectly acceptable; he can just study on his own.
After introducing himself, Professor Quirrell stammered and asked, "F-classmates, does anyone...does anyone know what Defense Against the Dark Arts is?"
The whole class was silent, except for Hermione, who raised her hand high.
Lewis didn't really like being in the spotlight, especially not in front of Professor Quirrell. What if Voldemort got his eye on him...?
"This... this student, please... answer." Professor Quirrell gestured for Hermione to speak.
"Magic used to protect oneself from dark magic, as well as some offensive magic that can break spells, are collectively known as Defense Against the Dark Arts."
"Very...very good, Gryffindor...five points!" Professor Quirrell glanced at the roster with the magical photographs of the students: "Hermione Granger...very, very good."
"Then... then does anyone know... what kinds of Defense Against the Dark Arts are there?"
Professor Quirrell chose Draco to answer.
"Armor protects you, Professor." Draco looked at Louis with a hint of pride.
Louis's heart skipped a beat. "Shut up, you brat..."
Enraged, he hesitated, wondering whether to deliver a tongue-locking stun to Draco. But Draco was quicker, speaking with swift pride: "My roommate, Louis, can silently cast the Ironclad Charm!"
Judging from his expression, it was clear that "my brother Louis has the potential to be a great mage."
Louis's vision went black.
Murphy's Law is absolutely true, my friend, you really are my good friend, Draco!
Louis was seething with anger, but he still had to keep smiling.
He secretly decided that when Draco ventured into the Forbidden Forest caves, he would definitely give the little bastard a good beating.
"Oh?" Professor Quirrell became interested. "Louis... you seem to have extraordinary talent. Could you demonstrate it for everyone?"
Louis sighed. Since he couldn't avoid it anyway, he might as well take advantage of Professor Quirrell... So he said, forcing himself to speak, "Please use your weapon against me, Professor."
"Alright." Professor Quirrell took out his wand. "You...you'd better be ready, I'm about to begin."
"Come on!" Louis was ready for battle.
"Disarm you!"
A crimson beam of light shot out from the tip of Professor Quirrell's wand. Louis, not daring to be careless, raised his hand and deflected the disarming spell with a blue light shield.
* "You have gained 1000 points of Ironclad Charm proficiency."
Louis slowly opened his mouth wide. For the first time in eleven years, he actually uttered "fuck" in his mind.
This is definitely Voldemort temporarily possessing him!
Professor Quirrell… or rather, Professor Voldemort, gave Louis a meaningful look.
"Excellent, a very good performance." He stopped stammering and looked at Louis with a smile. "Please come to my office on Sunday evening, Mr. Mountbatten. I would like to give you some pointers on Defense Against the Dark Arts."
The students in the classroom erupted in an uproar. Hermione stared at Louise with an extremely envious look, as if she wished she could take her place and go to Professor Quirrell for private tutoring.
If she knew who was actually guiding the spell, I wonder if she could still maintain this level of enthusiasm.
"I...uh, can I not go, Professor..." Louis asked dryly.
"For a talent as good as yours, it would be murder of your potential if the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts did not do his best to guide you."
Professor Quirrell was fixated on Louis.
