"Don't shoot!"

Claire's voice came from ahead, tinged with obvious panic, as she raised her hand and the gun in it to indicate that she meant no harm.

"Crouch down!" Fang Qingzhou shouted back.

Claire barely had time to think; her body reacted faster than her brain, instantly crouching down and revealing the zombie already standing behind her.

Fang Qingzhou pulled the trigger, and the bullet struck the zombie squarely through the eye, blowing its head off and knocking it to the ground.

"Thank you!" Claire looked at the fallen zombie, let out a long breath, her chest heaving, and looked at Fang Qingzhou with a hint of gratitude in her eyes.

"We'll thank you when we get out of here alive," Fang Qingzhou said, pointing his gun outside with a grim expression.

At some point, a large group of zombies had gathered around the gas station; there were at least a dozen or twenty of them.

Based on the shots fired just now, these zombies' skeletons must have been reinforced, allowing them to withstand some damage from small-caliber bullets.

It takes at least three bullets to completely shatter the skull of a zombie and destroy its brain.

The zombies in the Resident Evil 2 remake were called "steel-headed beasts" in the original world, unlike the zombies in the movie where a headshot would kill them instantly.

Of course, it's also possible that Leon's initial weapon, Matilda, is too weak. If it were an assault rifle or a hand cannon that uses Magnum bullets, it could definitely blow up a zombie in one shot.

However, this Matilda can destroy the brain with a single shot to the eye, but the difficulty of hitting the head and hitting the eye is worlds apart.

He only had two bullets left in his gun, enough to take down two zombies at most. Claire next to him also raised her gun but didn't fire immediately, indicating that she didn't have many bullets left either.

"Get in the police car! Let's drive away!" Fang Qingzhou shouted as he spotted a police car with its doors open and headlights on.

Claire barely hesitated before crouching low and rushing toward the police car with its lights on.

Fang Qingzhou followed closely behind, glancing back as he ran, as a dozen or twenty zombies surged toward the gas station at the same time.

The scene was like a zombie horde in a movie. Although it wasn't large in scale, the sense of oppression was enough to make anyone's heart rate soar to 180.

Fang Qingzhou rushed to the police car, pulled open the driver's side door, and got in.

Claire climbed into the passenger seat from the other side, and before the door could even close, a zombie had already rushed to her side.

A rotting arm reached in through the gap in the car door, its fingernails scraping against the plastic trim on the inside of the door, making a grating creaking sound.

"Bang!"

Claire shot the zombie through the wrist, black blood splattering. The arm twitched, but didn't retract, still scratching wildly, its nails tearing Claire's sleeve.

Fang Qingzhou leaned forward and grabbed the zombie's finger; the sensation sent chills down his spine.

It didn't feel like holding a living person's hand, but rather like holding a piece of raw meat that had just been taken out of the refrigerator, had been sitting for too long, and whose surface had started to become sticky.

However, he hardened his heart and twisted the door sharply, and the sound of a finger bone breaking rang out. Claire slammed the door shut again, snapping the finger in the process, and the door finally closed completely.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

By this time, the other zombies had also surrounded the car, their rotting hands pounding against the car windows, producing a dense, muffled sound.

Twisted faces were pressed against the glass, murky eyes staring intently at the two people inside the car through the windows, muffled roars coming from their mouths, spittle mixed with black blood leaving filthy streaks on the glass.

Fang Qingzhou turned the key in the police car, and soon the engine roared to life. He slammed on the gas and smashed through the zombies blocking his way, which reminded him of the thrill he used to feel when playing GTA.

The police car sped through the torrential rain, the wipers swishing rhythmically across the windshield, each sweep carrying away a layer of murky liquid mixed with blood and rain.

Fang Qingzhou glanced at the rearview mirror. In the mirror, the group of zombies grew farther and smaller until they became a few blurry black dots. He then let out a long breath, his shoulders unconsciously relaxing, but his body was still trembling slightly.

"What on earth happened?" Claire asked, leaning back in her seat, her chest heaving, still somewhat shaken.

"I don't know, but my police colleagues might know something once we get to Raccoon City." Fang Qingzhou certainly knew what was going on.

Although he didn't quite remember the plot of the Resident Evil 2 remake that he had previously listened to, he still vaguely knew some of it.

The zombie outbreak is due to a T-virus leak at the Umbrella Corporation's underground research facility in Raccoon City. Rats in the sewers came into contact with and became infected with the virus, thus becoming a mobile source of transmission.

Infected rats contaminated the city's water supply system, and the virus spread rapidly throughout the city. After drinking the contaminated water, citizens turned into zombies on a large scale.

Of course, he couldn't tell Claire any of this. The system would turn his experiences into a game, and he didn't know what impact revealing all the plot and settings now would have on the later developments.

"Are you a police officer?" Claire looked at Fang Qingzhou with some surprise.

"Yes, I'm reporting to the police station today. You can call me Leon," Fang Qingzhou nodded and said.

"That's such a coincidence. I'm also going to the Raccoon City Police Department to see my brother. He's a police officer there too. You can call me Claire."

Claire was pleased to learn that the two had the same destination. After all, what had just happened was too unbelievable, and having a handsome policeman accompany her was the best thing ever.

"That's quite a coincidence..."

Even without Claire's introduction, Fang Qingzhou knew who she was; she was one of the female protagonists of the Resident Evil game series, and an ordinary college student.

Saying she's just an ordinary person isn't quite accurate, because she has a super special forces brother. She learned all sorts of skills from her brother since she was a child, and her shooting skills are better than most police officers. She's also very strong in hand-to-hand combat.

The brother she mentioned is Chris, another protagonist in the Resident Evil game series, a super special forces soldier who is not only excellent at shooting but also at hand-to-hand combat, and can even fly fighter jets.

However, Fang Qingzhou wasn't as happy as Claire. The things they had just encountered were just appetizers, or as the system would say, a beginner's tutorial. The main event was waiting for them in Raccoon City.

The two chatted casually as they drove towards Raccoon City, with Claire doing most of the talking and Fang Qingzhou offering only a few perfunctory responses.

Normally, he would be happy to chat with such a beautiful woman, but in this dangerous world, all he wants is to survive.

However, this did bring the two of them closer together.

After all, they had just escaped through life and death together. At this moment, even just having someone to talk to makes one feel that the world has not completely collapsed.

As Fang Qingzhou drove the car into Raccoon City following the system's instructions, Claire also quieted down, her expression becoming extremely solemn.

Because the vast Raccoon City now seemed to have become a ghost town. The high-rise buildings that should have been brightly lit were now pitch black, there wasn't a single car on the road, and not even a single person in sight.

Only the broadcast kept echoing.

"Attention citizens... Due to an outbreak in the city... we now advise all citizens to seek refuge at the Raccoon City Police Department as soon as possible... We will provide free food and medical supplies to those in need..."

"Oh my god... what happened... is everyone dead...?" Claire looked around in disbelief.

"The police station is not far away. We should be able to find out exactly what happened there," Fang Qingzhou said.

He quickly stopped the car because the road ahead was blocked by a pile of wrecked vehicles.

"Grab your gun, it looks like we'll have to run there," Fang Qingzhou said.

He had already spotted at least five zombies nearby. Those zombies had noticed them after hearing the car engine, and there were definitely more around than that.

Just as Fang Qingzhou and Claire were about to open the door and get out, three or four zombies appeared out of nowhere. They lay down next to the car door, their rotting hands pounding and hitting the door and windows.

Each impact caused the car body to vibrate slightly, and the glass made a dull thud under their impact, looking as if it might shatter at any moment.
