Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution

Chapter 100: It's not that simple after all.

The troops began to advance slowly.

With the tanks leading the way, the soldiers advanced in an orderly fashion, and the artillery fire and gunfire never stopped, annihilating the green-skinned soldiers who were still putting up a last-ditch resistance.

But most of the enemies had long lost the will to fight. In order to run faster, they threw their weapons all over the ground and fled into the depths of the mine while screaming.

Those few who resisted were helplessly crushed into mincemeat before Leman Rustank.

Soon, the remaining green skins were all driven into the old mine pit.

Various types of ammunition were poured into the depths of the crater, providing them with powerful firepower suppression.

Gradually, the gunfire subsided.

The greens had given up resisting and hid in the intricate network of tunnels, trying to find a last chance to survive.

But under Garland's command, the soldiers split into combat teams and stormed into the mine one by one, clearing out every corner inch by inch.

Everyone knows that these green-skinned creatures must be eradicated.

Even if only one spore is left, it will breed an uncontrollable green plague again in less than a year.

Meanwhile, Victor and Bishop Moraes also arrived at the battlefield with their respective troops.

Viktor controlled hundreds of servo skulls, scanning every inch of the battlefield while also venturing deep into the tunnels to scout ahead for the troops attacking the mine.

The mechanical priests and friars following behind him, armed with molten guns and flamethrowers, left a trail of fire wherever they went, ensuring that no live spores remained.

Bishop Moraes, along with his assistant priests and monks, and protected by the battle nuns, conducted a sanctification ceremony for the entire battlefield.

Holy water was sprinkled on the scorched earth, and the sound of hymns echoed across the desert.

The soldiers wounded in battle received timely medical treatment from the nuns; those who were killed in action were carefully carried onto troop carriers to await their final funeral.

Everything was proceeding in an orderly manner, but this process was also the most time-consuming.

Three hours later, reports finally came from each squad: there were no traces of the enemy in the mine.

Only then did Garan order the troops to retreat.

The battle raged from dawn until the afternoon.

When everyone dragged their exhausted bodies back to the dome base, many soldiers could barely stand.

The battle lasted an extremely long time, and it was only then that the soldiers realized they were completely exhausted. When everyone returned to the dome base, they could barely stand.

Although Garan, the commander-in-chief, was not fighting on the front lines, he was also exhausted.

But the first thing he did upon returning to base was not to rest, but to immediately dispatch a garrison and an engineering team to the old mine.

"Establish a permanent forward outpost there, station a company of soldiers, and patrol 24 hours a day." He ordered his subordinates, his tone leaving no room for argument. "The Greenskins cannot be completely eradicated. Even with the Mechanical Church's investigations and the State Church's sanctification monuments, someone must be on guard at all times."

Subsequently, the officers began to tally the casualties and compile battle reports.

This was a truly resounding victory: over 50,000 Greenskin troops were annihilated, including several hundred Greenskin leaders and one war leader. The cost to our side was only over 500 wounded, 72 killed, two Leman Rustank armored vehicles slightly damaged, and five Chimera troop carriers suffering transmission failures.

Although this was just an unformed Greenskin tribe, this battle fully demonstrated the results of Rhonin's three months of reforms and proved that Vatos VII's forces already possessed the ability to fight the Greenskin threat on their own.

The next morning, in the desert outside the dome base.

Bishop Moraes personally presided over the funerals of the fallen soldiers, which were conducted entirely in accordance with the highest standards of the state church.

The workers worked through the night to build a neat cemetery. In the center of the cemetery stood a huge white marble monument to the martyrs, with the names of seventy-two fallen soldiers neatly engraved on its surface.

Everyone knows that there are very few names on this monument now, but as time goes by, it will eventually be filled with them, and may even be too small to hold them all.

These seventy-two soldiers were nothing more than an insignificant number in the eyes of the vast human empire.

In Vatos VII, they are someone else's parents, someone else's children, someone else's lovers, someone else's friends, and comrades-in-arms fighting side by side.

As Bishop Moraes called out their names one by one, as the guard of honor fired volleys into the sky, and as the state church's requiem slowly began to play, many people in the procession couldn't help but have tears well up in their eyes.

Even Luo Ning straightened his back and gave the monument a standard and solemn military salute.

After the funeral, Ronin immediately returned to Hive City and reported the Greenskin invasion to the Sector Headquarters via the communications matrix.

The moment the communication was connected, Luo Ning was momentarily stunned.

The Commander-in-Chief Mason on the screen was a completely different person from the one he spoke to during their last call.

His hair was gray and messy, and he had heavy dark circles under his eyes. He looked tired and haggard, and his former arrogance and haughtiness had long since vanished.

When Mason heard that Ronin had discovered the Greenskins in Vatos VII and had wiped them out, he almost jumped out of his chair with excitement.

That makes perfect sense.

The main force of the sector is currently bogged down in a desperate battle with the Orks on the border, and is already overwhelmed.

If another fire breaks out in the backyard at the other end of the sector, the entire sector's defenses will collapse completely.

Luo Ning's ability to nip this threat in the bud was an incredible achievement.

"Well done! Ronin! Excellent job!" Mason exclaimed three times, his voice filled with the relief of surviving a close call. "I'll immediately report your achievement to Terra and recommend you and your troops for commendation!"

Just then, Ronin's communicator suddenly rang. It was an urgent message from the airport: "Lord Ronin! A civilian spaceship from the Caron II is requesting landing, claiming to be the flagship of Governor Jet of the Caron II!"

Luo Ning looked at Mason on the screen with a blank expression.

Mason wore the same expression, his brows furrowing instantly: "Caron II? Jet? Why isn't he defending his own planet? What's he doing here?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than Mason’s office door was flung open, and a pale-faced staff officer rushed in and whispered a few words in his ear.

Mason's face instantly turned deathly pale.

The next second, he slammed his fist on the table, his furious roar almost shattering the speakers:

"Caron II is about to fall! That coward Jett! He actually deserted his post! Ronning! Arrest him immediately! I'll tear him to pieces!"
