Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution
Chapter 101: More Urgent Than Expected
Hearing Commander Mason's roar, Ronin immediately ordered into the communicator: "Immediately seal off the top-level starport and arrange the reception ceremony according to the standards of an Imperial governor."
There's about an hour left. In a little while, Luo Ning will personally receive this rare guest.
His concern wasn't for that coward Jett, but for Caron II.
That planet is too close to Vatos VII; even without a subspace engine, a regular transport ship could reach it in just two days.
If Charon II falls completely, then Vatos VII will inevitably be the next to suffer.
"Sir, what's the current situation with Caron II?" Ronin turned to look at Commander Mason in front of the screen, his tone extremely serious.
On the other end of the screen, Mason grabbed his hair in frustration and cursed, "Damn it! You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? That bastard Jett went to you! You should ask him!"
"What are the plans for the sector right now? Karon II is a mining world. If it gets taken over by the Orks, the entire sector will probably be in big trouble," Ronin asked calmly.
This time, however, Commander Mason was speechless. His face was buried deep in his hands, and it was clear that he was already exhausted and on the verge of collapse.
"I have no army, Ronin." His voice was hoarse. "The Eastern Front is already very tense. Every minute, an entire army is permanently crossed off the roster."
"At least try to find out what's going on with Caron II! Even just a little bit of information would be helpful!" Ronin shouted suddenly.
Governor Karl, who was standing beside him, was already pale with fright. When he heard Ronin's shout, he trembled like a leaf, his vision went black, and he fainted.
But the other party clearly didn't take Luo Ning's rudeness to heart and quickly sent someone to contact him.
A few minutes later, the secretary rushed in, her face deathly pale. Without any attempt to conceal her identity, she reported directly to the two of them:
"Breaking news! Over 100,000 Greenskins have completely surrounded the main hive of Caron II. All the mines outside have fallen, leaving only corpses everywhere. The garrison inside the hive is almost out of ammunition and food. News of the governor's escape has spread, and the entire hive is in a state of panic, on the verge of collapse."
"They are still resisting, simply because they know better that once the Greenskins breach the city, everyone will die, and die a horrible death."
Upon hearing the secretary's report, Commander Mason's face turned ashen, and he stood there like a lifeless statue, speechless.
"My lord! Cheer up! You are the hope of our entire sector!" Ronin shouted.
But all he got in return was Commander Mason's incredibly tired eyes and a long silence.
"I understand. Vatos VII will be sending troops," Ronin said slowly after a moment's thought.
Mason jerked his head up, staring at him as if he were a madman: "Damn it, Ronning, all you need to do is protect your planet with that piece of trash Karl, don't go off and die!"
"My lord, this isn't suicide, it's self-preservation." Ronin interrupted him, his tone agitated yet exceptionally clear. "Including the reserves, I now have 200,000 well-trained troops. The Greenskins haven't entered the city yet, there's still a chance! If we don't act now, once they establish themselves on Calon II and grow in strength, no one will be able to stop them. And their next target is Vatos VII!"
Mason looked at Ronin and fell into a long period of deep thought.
After a long silence, he nodded wearily: "Alright, I grant you permission to send troops. But there's really nothing left in the sector to support you."
"Since we're going to die sooner or later anyway, we might as well fight those plague-like monsters."
Luo Ning smiled somewhat helplessly, but then changed the subject.
"The production schedule of the Leman Rustank tanks on our production line is relatively normal. Here, I formally request that you waive the tank quota for the next two years. I need them for the battlefield. At the same time, I need ships, a large number of transport ships. You may not have an army, but you must have ships, right?"
"Damn it! Ronin, you cunning bastard! Even at a time like this, you're still calculating your own interests!" Mason couldn't help but curse, but he quickly calmed down. "Fine, I agree. For the next two years, I won't ask you for a single tank. But I warn you, with this crazy stockpiling of troops, be careful you don't attract the attention of the Inquisition."
"Everything for the Empire, my lord." Ronin bowed slightly, his tone utterly devout.
After hanging up the communication, Ronin glanced at Governor Karl, who was lying unconscious on the ground, shook his head, and turned to walk quickly toward the starport.
The soldiers were already in position, and the honor guard stood neatly on both sides of the starport; everything was prepared to the highest standards.
Soon, Governor Jet's private spaceship slowly landed at the berth.
The hatch opened, and Jet emerged, surrounded by more than twenty fully armed guards.
He straightened his magnificent governor's uniform, a fake, arrogant smile on his face, and greeted the approaching Luo Ning with polite formalities:
"Isn't this Lord Ronin? Long time no see. I apologize for the trouble this unexpected visit has caused. By the way, where is Governor Karl? Why hasn't he come out?"
"The Governor is unwell and specifically asked me to come and receive you." Ronin wore a polite smile and bowed slightly. "May I ask what brings Governor Jet from so far away?"
The two walked side by side, and Ronin subtly closed the distance between himself and Jet, but Jet's guards could no longer block their way.
Just as the two stood side by side, Luo Ning suddenly made his move.
He grabbed Jet's wrist, twisted it behind his back, and slammed him onto the cold ground.
At the same time, the surrounding soldiers swarmed forward and subdued all of Jet's guards in an instant, without making a sound.
"Ronin! Are you fucking crazy? I'm the governor appointed by the empire! Even if Karl comes, he can't touch me!" Jet lay on the ground, struggling desperately and cursing.
Luo Ning crouched down, but the smile on his face was icy cold:
"Governor Jet, as the highest-ranking officer of Caron II, your desertion in the face of battle is a capital offense. I was merely ordered to arrest you."
Upon hearing the words "desertion in the face of battle," Jeter's anger and arrogance instantly froze.
He stared at Luo Ning in disbelief, his lips trembling, unable to utter a single word.
Ronin ordered that Jet and his guards be disarmed and imprisoned in the governor's jail.
To prevent them from committing suicide, he even had someone gag Jet with coarse cloth and tie him tightly to the bed.
After dealing with all of this, Ronin stood on the platform of the starport and looked in the direction of Caron II.
Mason's transport fleet will arrive in three days.
And in these three days, he still has so much to do.
Military reorganization, war preparation, resource gathering, and homeland defense arrangements...
A larger war is imminent.
