Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution

Chapter 18: We are now terrifyingly strong

When Hero's fleet landed, his crew of space pirates swarmed down like locusts.

There were no staff members around, only a small number of planetary defense forces watching them warily from the perimeter.

However, the space pirates, who had been blinded by their own desires, completely ignored the defense forces. After all, in their view, the defense forces were only there to prevent nearby vagrants and mutants from robbing the supplies here.

But as they were preparing to transport the containers placed in the square back to the spaceship, they found that they felt unusually light.

They opened one of the containers amidst shouts and curses, and upon seeing the empty container, the space pirates immediately erupted in uproar.

Meanwhile, the guards who were on alert around the area had all disappeared.

Luo Ning, sitting in the command room, had already seen everything. With a wave of his hand, the order was quickly relayed.

With a deafening roar, the space pirates, still in the midst of chaos, couldn't even see their enemies, yet countless cannonballs were already hurtling towards them.

With a violent explosion, the first round of long-range bombardment alone caused heavy losses to the group of space pirates.

In the chaos, the spaceships completely disregarded their companions on the ground who hadn't yet boarded, and frantically attempted to take off.

But at the same time, the Lightning fighters roared past, their machine guns raining down bullets like they were free, while several missiles accurately hit those ships that had just taken off and hadn't even had time to adjust their attitude.

Violent explosions rang out everywhere, and even the large Hiro Pirates were quickly routed by this thunderous offensive.

Only a few spaceships managed to take off, engaging in dogfights with the Lightning fighters while constantly trying to escape the atmosphere.

On the ground, the heavy firepower hidden out of sight ceased to cover the battlefield. The entire area had been turned into a wasteland by the powerful artillery fire, with severed limbs and broken bodies scattered everywhere. The space pirates who had managed to escape the first round of artillery fire quickly fled the area.

As they watched the transport ships being shot down one after another, before they could even feel relieved, they found themselves surrounded.

The Planetary Defense Forces' ground troops were already itching for battle, but Rhonin didn't immediately send them into action. Unlike the commanders in the Warhammer world, Rhonin was a man from the 21st century.

Although he wasn't from a military background, he still had the common sense to use long-range firepower to suppress enemy forces, gain air superiority, and then deploy ground troops.

Only now has Luo Ning given the order to launch an attack with the ground forces to carry out a final encirclement and annihilation of the space pirates.

The unit commander, holding a megaphone, shouted Ronin's orders to the space pirates: "Those who lay down their weapons and surrender now will be spared; those who stubbornly resist will be killed without mercy."

However, persuasion was not very effective, since these space pirates were all desperate criminals whose hands were already stained with blood.

Of course, all of this was perfectly in line with Luo Ning's plan; he only needed to get this group of people to have a thought in their minds.

Luo Ning firmly believed in a principle: no matter what group, they are always the most united when they have no way out. As long as they have any choice, even if they do not make a choice, the seeds of instability have already been sown deep in their hearts. And from the moment these seeds are sown, any group is about to fall apart.

As Luo Ning had predicted, the situation on the battlefield was exactly as the planetary guards attacked from all directions. The group of space pirates had lost their fearless and valiant nature.

The way the defense forces advanced was also completely different from before.

Under Luo Ning's arrangement, the defense forces adopted a method of crossfire and mutual cover to advance. Although the marching speed was reduced, it had a great advantage.

That is, through powerful firepower suppression, although some ammunition may be wasted, casualties can be effectively reduced.

For him, the defense force was the foundation of his career. A new recruit often needs a lot of training after enlisting, but may still not be as good as a veteran who has been on the battlefield. Therefore, he did not want to waste any manpower in this war of attrition.

After all, with the full operation of the Nest City, they have no shortage of ammunition.

Although human life is the cheapest thing in the Warhammer world, Rhonin knew perfectly well that a skilled warrior would always be infinitely stronger in combat than a mere recruit.

I am not the kind of Astral Army that can mobilize hundreds of thousands or millions of troops at any time. I must make good use of the few troops I have left.

Hero in space also received the message, and at the same time, the starport's cannons were already aimed at his ship.

Completely unexpectedly, Hiro angrily connected to the line, only to see Ronin's cold, smiling face on the other end of the holographic image.

"Isn't this Boss Hiro? Aren't you satisfied with the welcome ceremony I prepared for you?"

Upon hearing Ronin's words, Hiro's face even trembled uncontrollably. "Trying to play dirty, huh? You really think I'm helpless? Believe me or not, I'll throw a bomb right now and take you all down with me."

"Go ahead. We've already activated the Void Shield at the top of the Nest City. As for the rest of the city, feel free to bomb it," Ronin replied nonchalantly.

Hearing what the other person said, Hiro's expression grew increasingly grim, and at the same time, he received a notification from his deputy.

Several planetary defense ships had quietly appeared behind his warship, all their cannons already aimed at them.

This is all the force Luo Ning currently possesses: a few decommissioned old gunboats. Although their combat strength is weak, they can only flee in panic when faced with groups of pirates.

But now things are different; they are facing only one flagship of the Hiro Pirates.

Now, both the ground-based orbital defense cannons and the laser arrays located in the starport are aimed at Hiro, and his only escape route has been blocked by these gunboats.

Even Hero was powerless to fight back.

"Hiro, you're still useful. Surrender now and the governor might spare your life. Otherwise, you and your warship will become space junk."

Hiro's expression changed rapidly in that instant. After a long while, he finally chose to give up and agreed to Ronin's request.

Luo Ning locked Hiro in a cell, where the Ministry of Justice personnel had been waiting for a long time. At Luo Ning's instruction, they were going to interrogate Hiro thoroughly.

As for his flagship, although it was much more advanced than his own space gunship, he still dutifully chose to report it, since the trouble of privately possessing a warship was not something he could handle at his current level.

After expressing his appreciation for Ronin and Karl's loyalty, Governor Mason of the Starfield promised to deliver the previously agreed-upon food rations as soon as possible.

In the end, even after Luo Ning's persistent pleading, they gave him a little more.

But just as everything had settled down, a communication from the star sector came through.

The advance team of the Imperial tax collectors has already set off, arriving 10 days ahead of schedule. The team is led by a disciplinary deacon of the State Religion, accompanied by an inspector from the Sectoral Legal Department.
