Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution
Chapter 85: Following the Clues
Luo Ning woke up just as dawn was breaking the next day.
Dani, who was sleeping soundly beside him, only unconsciously snuggled closer to him when she felt Luo Ning's movements, and was not woken up at all.
Seeing the bright red blood on the sheets, he was both surprised and delighted.
At the same time, one can't help but admire Dani; she's truly a rare find.
Even though the first man she faced was Luo Ning, she didn't back down at all. Her indomitable spirit and even a desire to turn the tide were evident.
Unfortunately, she was ultimately defeated by a seasoned veteran like Luo Ning and was completely routed.
That usually stubborn little mouth could no longer be firm, and could only keep begging for mercy in a soft voice, and finally she fainted from exhaustion.
Only then did Luo Ning muster all his strength and give her a swift and decisive victory.
Gently stroking the soft hair of the beauty in his arms, Luo Ning, though reluctant to disturb her sleep, still gently shook her shoulder.
"Honey, it's time to get up."
Dani slowly opened her eyes and saw Luo Ning's gentle smile and his warm, honest body temperature. Recalling the long, intimate conversation that had kept her up all night yesterday, Dani's face instantly turned bright red.
But Dani is still Dani.
Even though she was so shy that her ears turned pink, she didn't panic at all. She quickly composed herself and spoke calmly.
"What time is it now?"
She tried to keep her voice steady, but her flushed face and flickering eyes betrayed her true feelings.
Luo Ning couldn't help but laugh. Instead of answering her, he turned over and pinned Dani down, kissing her deeply.
"You! No... I have important business to attend to today!"
Dani almost frantically pushed Ronin away, but he just grinned mischievously and asked, "You were so calm just now."
Hearing Luo Ning's words, Dani finally couldn't hold back anymore. She pulled the blanket over her head and threatened in a muffled voice, "Stop talking nonsense, or I'll take you back and make you a slave for life."
"If it were for you, I'd be willing." Luo Ning reached under the covers, but his sweet words didn't stop.
After a while of lingering in each other's arms, Luo Ning finally managed to restrain himself from continuing the fight.
I checked the time; it was time to stop playing.
"Darling, you can rest here with me today. I'll take care of everything." He stood up and gently instructed, looking every bit like the head of the household.
Dani peeked half her face out from under the covers, blushing as she nodded.
She was indeed so exhausted that she had no energy left to keep running around with Luo Ning.
Luo Ning finished dressing, placed a final kiss on her forehead, and then turned and left the room.
When Ronin arrived at the army's camp, Garan had already completed the martial law deployment throughout the entire hive, as he had arranged.
All passages leading to the outside of the Nest City, the airport, and the elevator entrances to and from the Nest City were blocked by the defense army soldiers, and no one was allowed to enter or leave at will.
The streets were deserted, save for patrolling soldiers marching past in orderly steps, their cold gun barrels gleaming in the morning light, the entire nest shrouded in a somber atmosphere.
"Lord Ronin, all troops are in position, and the Qinu barracks have been surrounded." Garan strode forward, gave a standard Imperial military salute, and spoke in a steady and powerful voice.
"Very good." Luo Ning nodded, his tone cold. "Lead the way to the Qi Nu camp."
Escorted by a squad of defense soldiers, Luo Ning led his men straight to the Qinu barracks on the upper level of the city.
The soldiers broke down the door and gathered all the slaves in the barracks into the courtyard.
These emaciated, dull-eyed slaves had never seen anything like this before. They trembled with fear, kneeling on the ground, too terrified to raise their heads.
Luo Ning's gaze swept across the crowd and quickly locked onto the sworn brother who had been in charge of clearing the garbage from the Imperial Garden last night.
"Bring him here."
The soldiers immediately stepped forward and dragged the emaciated Qinu to Luo Ning like a dead dog.
"My lord, spare me! My lord, spare me! I didn't do anything!" The slave was terrified when he saw Luo Ning. He knelt on the ground and kept kowtowing until his forehead was bleeding.
Luo Ning didn't say anything, but gave a wink to Duwanmiqiong next to him.
Dovanmijohn nodded and stepped forward. In his hand was a strangely shaped metal device, a thought probe used by the Cult of Machines to extract memories.
Although he was only Viktor's second-in-command, after learning from Viktor for so long, these basic technical operations were already second nature to him.
"No...don't touch me! I really don't know anything!" The slave was terrified when he saw the thought probe and struggled desperately.
But the two soldiers held him down firmly, and Dovanmijohn expressionlessly placed the probe on his temple.
Just a second before the probe was about to be activated, Nachinu finally broke down, crying and confessing everything.
"I'll tell you everything! It was Baron Colin's squire who found me! He told me to hide the chip in a hidden compartment yesterday evening when I was changing the liner of the recycling niche! He said he'd give me a bottle of the finest wine after it was done!"
Just as Luo Ning predicted.
This Qi Nu was a complete alcoholic; he would do anything for a sip of wine.
Moreover, Luo Ning could clearly sense the thoughts in his mind. He already knew that what he was doing was plotting against the governor's mansion, but for a bottle of wine, he willingly became someone else's pawn.
He was even once an informant planted by the four noble families in the cleaning team. He was able to occasionally have a drink by tipping off the nobles, so that he wouldn't have to scavenge for scraps like the other slaves.
"My lord, what should we do?" Garan asked, following Ronin.
Luo Ning simply replied coldly, "Kill him."
Upon hearing Luo Ning's words, the contracted slave immediately cried out, "My lord! I'm innocent! I'm just an honest and law-abiding slave, I don't deserve to die! I've told you everything I know!"
Luo Ning turned around coldly and looked at him, but didn't say a word.
But that one look amplified the other person's fear to the extreme, and they dared not utter another word.
He collapsed to the ground and was dragged away from the courtyard by the guards.
"Has Baron Colin's information been retrieved?" Ronin didn't waste any more time on that slave, but turned to look at Garland.
Garland quickly stepped forward and handed over the data panel in his hand.
"My lord, Baron Colin and Baron Harker have also been in contact, but their relationship is not deep, and they do not have much business cooperation."
Ronin nodded and said slowly, "Surround Baron Colin's mansion. Don't let a single one escape."
