Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution

Chapter 86: The Challenge is a Little Low

Half an hour later, Baron Colin’s mansion was surrounded by the defense forces.

More than a hundred members of the family, from the baron himself to the lowest-ranking servants, were all escorted to the courtyard of the mansion.

Baron Colin, dressed in a luxurious silk robe, his hair disheveled and his face filled with terror, repeatedly cried out his innocence to Ronin.

"Lord Luo Ning! I'm innocent! I know nothing! I am utterly loyal to the Empire, and I have absolutely no ulterior motives towards you!"

Garland frowned, about to order an intensified interrogation, but was stopped by Ronin raising his hand.

Ronin could clearly sense the thoughts in Baron Colin's mind; he truly knew nothing.

Although this person is a nobleman, he only runs a garbage recycling business and is usually timid and afraid of trouble.

Even though Luo Ning had contracted out the garbage recycling business in the Lower Nest District to the local gangs, he didn't dare to voice any protest, fearing he would get into trouble. He simply didn't have the guts to participate in such a plot against the Governor's Mansion.

The real mastermind is someone else.

Luo Ning's gaze swept across the crowd, finally landing on a middle-aged man with a pale face and evasive eyes.

He pointed silently, and the soldiers immediately dragged the servant out.

Before Luo Ning could even interrogate him, the servant was so frightened that his legs went weak, and he knelt on the ground and confessed everything in detail.

"It's...it's Baron Harker's butler! He's hiding in the Lower Nest! He found me, gave me a large sum of money, and asked me to arrange for that Cinnamon to plant the chip, and also to send out the report via interstellar communication!"

"Dyna! Why did you hurt me!" Baron Colin rushed over like a madman, trying to grab the servant by the collar, but was stopped by the guard.

He collapsed to the ground, pointing at Dyna and crying incoherently, "I treated you so well! Why did you ruin me!"

Clearly, Baron Colin wanted to prove that he had nothing to do with the matter.

But Luo Ning simply waved his hand; he didn't have time to waste here and had no intention of touching him.

"Baron Harker's butler? Where is he?"

"He's hiding in an old gang stronghold in the Lower District! I'll give you the address! Please, have mercy on me!"

Led by his attendant Dyna, Ronin led a squad of elite soldiers straight to the lower nest area.

Passing through layers of dilapidated tin shacks, they arrived at the darkest corner of the lower nest area.

This is an area where Luo Ning's reforms have not yet reached, and it still retains the most primitive barbarity and decay of Chaodu.

Sewage flowed freely across the muddy ground, and the air was filled with a stench of rotting, blood, and cheap alcohol.

From the surrounding shacks, wary and greedy eyes would occasionally dart out, but when they saw the heavily armed defense soldiers, they would immediately shrink back and dare not show their faces again.

In the center of this dilapidated area, however, stands a relatively intact building.

The door was tightly shut, and faint sounds of drunken laughter and women's screams could be heard coming from inside.

"This is it, sir," Dyna said, trembling.

Luo Ning gave the soldiers a look, and two soldiers immediately stepped forward and kicked open the door.

The noise inside stopped abruptly.

Luo Ning stepped inside and saw that the room was in a mess, with empty wine bottles and food scraps scattered all over the floor.

Several disheveled women screamed and hid in a corner, while a disheveled man, reeking of alcohol, sat at the table in the center.

He looked no different from the lowest-class refugees in the Lower Nest District, with greasy, tangled hair and a face full of dirt, but his eyes showed no sign of backing down when he looked at Luo Ning. Instead, they held a kind of crazy, desperate attitude.

"We've finally arrived."

He gulped down a mouthful of cheap liquor, wiped his mouth with his sleeve, grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.

"I've been waiting for you for a long time."

The soldiers immediately pointed their guns at him, but he didn't care and continued drinking.

"You're Baron Harker's butler, Ian?" Ronin asked coldly.

"That's right."

Ian put down the bottle, stood up, and stared at Ronin with venomous eyes.

"You ruined everything we had!" he roared hysterically. "You killed Baron Harker, and my good days are over! If I hadn't been busy visiting prostitutes that day and hadn't gone home, I'd be dead there too, all because of you!"

"No governor has ever dared to make money without cooperating with the nobles, except you!"

"Those lowly people who descended from their nests were destined to be slaves for life! It was you! You shattered all of that! You fed them, you gave them jobs, you madman!"

He was cursing loudly when the well-trained soldiers rushed forward and silenced him with their gun butts and fists.

"Who is behind this?" Luo Ning stepped forward and asked coldly.

Blood kept gushing from Ian's mouth, but the maniacal smile on his face never stopped.

"Hahaha, I need someone to tell me how to get revenge on you? Bah! You're not worthy!"

"Let me tell you, the Baron has been eyeing you two good-for-nothings for a long time. We can kill the previous governor, and we can kill you two too. This time, the Baron was careless, and you bunch of good-for-nothings made the first move."

"But don't underestimate me. Even if I die, I'll drag you down with me!"

"The only downside is that the women in the courtroom are also a fucking useless piece of trash. I racked my brains, spent all my money, and provided her with evidence, but it was all for nothing."

"They're all useless! They should all die!"

Despite the constant insults, Ronin's attention was entirely focused on Ian's mind.

He couldn't believe that someone like Baron Harker could have such loyal subordinates, who were even willing to spend their last savings to try and avenge Baron Harker.

But in his heart, all Luo Ning could hear was endless resentment.

Clearly, this was one of Baron Harker's loyal wild dogs.

"Lord Dovanmijohn, I don't want him to die. I want him to live, and retain his full consciousness, so he can experience firsthand what the atonement machine of the Cult of Machines is like."

Luo Ning slowly spoke to the man beside him, Du Wanmiqiong, feeling utterly bored.

He had thought there was some big fish hiding behind this incident, but he never expected it to be just an act of revenge by the remnants of Baron Harker's gang.

Even so, he did not intend to let the other party get away with it so easily.

Upon hearing Luo Ning's words, before Duo Wanmiqiong could even reply, Ian spat a mouthful of phlegm at Luo Ning, but Luo Ning easily dodged it.

The martial arts knowledge he possessed was far beyond what a mere spit could easily scare him with.

"Hahaha! You brat! You don't dare kill me, do you? I'll make sure you live even after I'm dead!"

"Don't pretend to be a tough guy." Ronin looked at the impotently furious Ian in front of him and laughed. "You're not that you're not afraid of death, you just know how terrible it is to be modified by the Mechanicus."

The gentle smile on Dovanmijohn's face vanished instantly, replaced by the coldness and solemnity characteristic of a mechanical priest.

He nodded slightly to Luo Ning: "Yes, sir. I will make him understand the price of betraying you."

Two soldiers immediately stepped forward and lifted up Ian, who was still shouting wildly.

Ian finally realized what awaited him, and the madness on his face instantly turned into extreme fear.

He struggled desperately, crying and begging for mercy, and even tried to bribe the soldiers to kill him, but no one paid any attention to him anymore.
