Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution
Chapter 87: Acceptance
Watching Ian being dragged away, the turmoil that had lasted for several days finally came to a close without any major incident.
As Dani said, if she hadn't been the one who intercepted the whistleblower letter, things probably wouldn't have ended so simply.
"Lift the curfew on the entire hive and clean this place up."
Luo Ning gave the order to Garan beside him, looked up at the gradually whitening sky in the east, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
Everything is resolved.
Now, it's time to go back and see if his little judge has woken up.
After all, he had promised Dani that he would take her to see the secret outside the Death Forest today.
As Luo Ning pondered this, he unconsciously quickened his pace, almost flying back to his residence.
Pushing open the door, I found that Dani was already up.
She was dressed in clean casual clothes and sitting in a chair in the restaurant, leisurely drinking black tea.
Sunlight streamed through the window, softening her usually sharp features as it fell on her profile.
"Welcome back." Dani looked up at him, her face completely devoid of the panic from the previous night. "Why do you look so pale? Didn't you sleep well last night?"
Luo Ning sat opposite her with his head drooping, looking helpless: "Why did you get up so early? You looked completely exhausted just a moment ago."
Dani picked up her black tea, took a sip, and a sly smile of triumph flashed in her eyes.
The moment the military lifted martial law, she guessed that the matter was resolved and that Luo Ning should be back.
To avoid repeating last night's mistake, she immediately got out of bed, tidied herself up, and made the perfect time difference.
Seeing her smug little face, Luo Ning immediately realized what was going on, but could only sigh helplessly.
The two chatted briefly about the morning's investigation. After listening, Dani just curled her lip and disdainfully criticized Ian's stupidity: "Is that all you've got? You're really overestimating yourself."
However, she quickly stopped dwelling on the matter. Instead, she put down her teacup, smiled at Luo Ning, and looked at him with a hint of expectation in her eyes: "You haven't forgotten what you promised me yesterday, have you?"
"Of course I haven't forgotten." Ronin stood up with a smile. "Let's go, my esteemed judge."
The two set off quickly and boarded the governor's car.
However, Luo Ning remained cautious and turned off the anti-gravity system on the vehicle, driving it only using the standard chromium engine.
Dani sat in the car, her eyes fixed on the scenery outside the window.
As the car drove along the smooth "Road of Hope," the tall streetlights on both sides receded into the distance. The once eerie Death Forest was now less terrifying, thanks to the smooth road and the railings on both sides.
Luo Ning didn't disturb her; he simply sat quietly beside her, giving her his time.
What would normally be a two-hour journey felt exceptionally short because of the beautiful woman by my side.
As the car slowly came to a stop, Dani stared wide-eyed at the sight before her.
Before Luo Ning could speak, she pushed open the car door and jumped out.
The soldiers on duty at the base gate instinctively raised their guns and aimed them at the strangers, but the next second, when they saw Luo Ning getting out of the car, they immediately lowered their guns, stood at attention, gave a standard Imperial military salute, and stepped aside to make way for him.
Dani and Ronin walked into the base side by side. Along the way, her eyes kept scanning the soldiers, with a hint of scrutiny in them.
It wasn't until the two entered the passage leading to the underground level that Dani finally spoke, her tone tinged with amusement: "Lord Ronin, the weapons and equipment of these soldiers are far superior to the standard equipment of the Sector Defense Force."
Ronin chuckled and scratched his head, looking completely innocent. "These are all old, standard-issue rifles I found in the colony's warehouses. They'll do for now. I trust Your Honor won't hold a grudge against me for such junk, will you?"
"That's hard to say." Dani smiled faintly, turning to look at him with a peculiar, alluring smile in her eyes. "After all, possessing prohibited imperial military equipment is no small crime."
Luo Ning could only shake his head with a wry smile.
When the passageway doors slowly opened, revealing the entire underground level to Dani, the smile on her face instantly froze.
What came into view was not the dark and damp underground fortifications she had imagined, but a bright and open square.
Facing the square is the National Church, which is under construction. Its white jade walls are clearly very valuable.
The surrounding ecological garden is filled with lush green plants, clear water flows from the stone fountain, and the air is filled with the faint fragrance of grass and trees.
The holographic canopy overhead projected a clear blue sky and white clouds; if it weren't for the metallic ground beneath her feet, she would almost have thought she was in a pastoral landscape.
"The environment here is just too good," Dani murmured, her voice filled with disbelief.
She had seen too many underground fortifications of the empire, all of which were dark, oppressive, and filled with the smell of machine oil and rust. She had never seen a place like this, which was like a paradise.
Luo Ning nodded, a hint of pride in his voice: "Yes. This area will be developed into a living area for the base's workers. I plan to give them more rest time, allowing them to have their own lives instead of just being cogs in a machine. Only in this way can their full potential be unleashed."
"How can we make the workers realize that they are living, breathing human beings?"
Dani smiled and leaned close to his ear, whispering, "Lord Ronin, I must warn you, this is a sign of rebellion."
Luo Ning smiled and gently put his arm around her waist: "This is not a sign of rebellion. It's to make them cherish their lives more and serve the empire better. After all, only the living and hopeful can create more value."
"Really?" Dani raised an eyebrow. "Then you must have your own room in this residential area, right?"
"Of course." Ronin pointed to the stacked housing complex at the end of the plaza. "It's on the top floor, overlooking the entire plaza. Want to go take a look?"
"Forget it." Dani immediately took a step back, looking at him warily. "I wouldn't dare go into your room so casually again. Who knows if you'll cause trouble again? I'm an Imperial Inquisitor here for an inspection today!"
Seeing her feigned seriousness, Luo Ning couldn't help but laugh out loud.
The two then inspected the factory area on the basement level.
Victor was already waiting at the factory gate. The red light of his optical prosthetic eye flickered slightly, but he didn't ask any questions.
Facing Victor, Dani abandoned all her joking demeanor and reverted to her professional and meticulous Imperial Inquisitor persona.
She carefully reviewed all the production line documents and armament ledgers, and even personally inspected several operating machines.
Finally, she took out her judge's seal, solemnly stamped it on the acceptance report, and personally signed her opinion: After verification, all facilities of the Vatos VII Dome Base comply with the provisions of Imperial Law and there are no violations.
Viktor took the report and looked at the bright red judge's seal on it. Even his perpetually icy face showed obvious surprise.
Luo Ning stood to the side without saying a word.
He watched Dani's profile as she intently signed the documents, sunlight streaming through the factory's skylight and gilding her with a soft golden hue.
A gentle breeze blew through the vents, carrying the fresh scent of grass and trees from the ecological garden.
A satisfied smile unconsciously crept onto Luo Ning's lips.
He knew that from this moment on, the imperial judge who held the power of life and death was completely on his side.
