Warhammer: Starting with Industrial Revolution
Chapter 89: What's the difference between this and Myanmar?
As the convoy carrying workers slowly drove through the gates of the dome base, the defense soldiers stationed there immediately surrounded it.
Even though these people were brought by Luo Ning himself, the soldiers did not relax their guard in the slightest.
Following the procedures, they meticulously checked every person and every piece of luggage, and only after confirming that no prohibited items were being carried did they step aside to make way.
Luo Ning stood aside, watching the whole thing unfold, and nodded in satisfaction.
Garland certainly did not disappoint him.
The troops here, in terms of both loyalty and discipline, have far exceeded the average level of the sector defense forces.
When I get back, I need to think carefully about how to reward this kid who never asks for anything in return and only buries himself in his work.
The workers following behind all seemed incredibly reserved.
They clutched their bundles tightly, heads bowed, afraid to look around, their eyes filled with barely concealed fear.
After all, in their past understanding, such heavily guarded military bases were always places where one could enter but never leave.
But this restraint and fear were completely dispelled the moment they passed through the heavy alloy door and stepped into the basement.
Instead, there was a profound and deep-seated shock.
Bright and gentle light bathed the entire square, and in the center stood the state church, which was already taking shape and was made of pure white jade.
Clear spring water gushes from the central stone fountain, splashing up tiny droplets. The air is filled with the faint fragrance of grass and trees, and colorful flowers bloom freely in the flowerbeds.
This is no dark underground fortification; it's clearly a paradise that only exists in ancient legends.
The workers froze on the spot, afraid to take a step, lest their oil-stained shoes soil the spotless ground.
Someone couldn't resist reaching out and gently touching the wall beside them. The cool, smooth touch made them gasp and quickly pull their hand back.
"Come on, let me show you your new home."
Luo Ning's voice broke the silence.
He led the group toward the towering, stacked residential building at the end of the square.
The workers were placed on the sixth and seventh floors.
Each room has the exact same layout: a clean and tidy single bed, a wash area with a private bathroom, a small desk and wardrobe, and even a window with a holographic projection view.
Therefore, there is no need for selection at all; the workers simply need to enter the rooms in front of them one by one.
For them, who had spent their entire lives crammed into dormitories with more than a dozen people in a mid-level factory, without even a bed of their own, such living conditions were a luxury they could not even imagine.
"You have ten minutes to pack your luggage, then gather in the square. Your family members can stay in their rooms to rest for now." Luo Ning's voice came through the loudspeaker in the hallway.
The workers responded, but did not move for a long time.
They cautiously entered the room, touching and looking around. Some people sat on the soft mattress, trembling with excitement.
Someone turned on the tap and watched the clear tap water gushing out. He reached out and scooped up a handful. The icy touch made him almost unable to believe it.
His wife, who was following behind him, was holding their child. Seeing all this, she couldn't help but cover her face and burst into tears.
Compared to the life I used to live, this place is like a paradise that you can only enter after you die.
Ten minutes later, when the workers reassembled in the square, each of them still had lingering excitement and disbelief on their faces.
Their eyes were filled with heartfelt gratitude as they looked at Luo Ning.
Looking at their expressions, Luo Ning nodded in satisfaction.
He walked to the front of the crowd, without any prepared speech, and began in the simplest of tones:
"I know that many of you are thinking, why you? Why are you able to live in such houses and enjoy such a life?"
"The answer is simple: this is not a gift from me; you earned it with your own hands."
"You are the best workers in the entire hive. You work the longest nights and do the hardest jobs, creating every single part that keeps this planet running. You deserve a better life, you deserve to live in houses like these, and you deserve that your children don't have to spend their whole lives trapped in dark factories like you."
"I just eliminated those who got in through connections because I didn't want your hard work to be wasted by those opportunists."
"Here, only ability matters, not connections. As long as you work hard and are loyal to the city and the empire, you can live here forever, and your families can also live a good life with you."
"You are the first workers to arrive at the Dome Base; you are the pioneers here. In the future, more workers will come here, more factories will rise from the ground, and this base will become more and more bustling and powerful. And you will be the witnesses and creators of all of this."
Luo Ning's voice wasn't loud, but every word he uttered struck the workers' hearts.
Someone in the crowd burst into tears first, and then more and more people's eyes reddened.
They recalled their dark and dreary days in the mid-level factory, the times when foremen withheld supplies and beat and verbally abused them at will.
Looking at everything before them, they realized that Luo Ning had brought about real reforms, gradually changing their lives.
It was Lord Luo Ning who pulled them out of the dark and hopeless factory and gave them a real home.
All the grievances and hardships of the past have turned into scalding tears.
"We will forever be loyal to the Governor! We will forever be loyal to Lord Ronin!"
Someone shouted first, and then a deafening oath resounded throughout the entire square.
The workers waved their fists, their faces filled with fervor and loyalty.
They have never felt hopeful about their lives as they do now.
Similarly, they naturally cherished their current life immensely. Ronin promised them that as long as they worked hard and remained loyal to the city and the empire, they could live here forever.
Correspondingly, they were perfectly aware of what Luo Ning hadn't said.
Those who hold others back will only be eliminated and thrown back into that dark and hopeless life.
Luo Ning raised his hand and pressed down, and the crowd instantly quieted down.
"Alright, keep your vows in your hearts. Now, come with me to see where you'll be working in the future."
He turned and led the group toward the automated factory area on the other side of the square.
The heavy alloy door slowly opened, and a faint smell of engine oil wafted out.
Viktor had been waiting there for a long time at the factory gate.
He was still wearing the mechanical priest's robe embroidered with the emblem of the gear, and the red light of his optical prosthetic eye flickered slightly in the dim factory. When he saw Ronin leading the workers over, he simply nodded slightly and said nothing more.
