Chapter 22 Strengthening
Chapter 22 Strengthening
Standing on the unfamiliar land, Adir lowered his head slightly and looked at the three corpses lying on the ground, which had become mummies.
"He's been dead for at least three or four years," he muttered to himself.
The chip in his mind was working rapidly, analyzing the time of death and the exact cause of death of these mummified corpses.
After a while, he shook his head, picked up the black and white photo from the ground, wiped it clean, and put it on his person.
"At least someone will remember what you look like."
He uttered those words softly, then left the spot and slowly walked towards the street ahead.
This city is eerie.
The area around the city was shrouded in a deathly silence; not a sound could be heard.
This situation is very rare.
Under normal circumstances, even if everyone in the city were to die, there would still be some scattered small lives around, and it would be impossible for there to be no sound at all.
Such an unusual stillness often signifies greater danger.
Adir was aware of this, so he walked very quietly down the street, making almost no sound.
Unbeknownst to him, he had walked to the outside of a tall building.
It was a tall building, clearly built in a very lavish style, with a few words written on it.
This is the language of this world, which Adir does not recognize, but he can vaguely guess that this place should be a public place.
Because there were a large number of corpses left at the entrance of that building.
Many humanoid corpses lay there, most of their flesh gone, leaving only horrifying skeletons.
It is clear that at some point in the past, some sudden accident must have occurred, causing these people to flee from inside to outside, resulting in the corpses all facing outwards.
But judging from their fate, they clearly encountered something, and in the end they all collapsed at the door and failed to escape.
Adir's gaze swept to the side.
Centered around this building, there were many corpses everywhere, scattered all along the way.
hiss!
A faint sound suddenly came from afar, catching Adir's attention.
He looked in that direction, and his powerful eyesight allowed him to see clearly what was happening there.
In the distance, there was a body that looked relatively fresh, suggesting it hadn't been dead for long.
It was a woman's corpse, her body mangled and torn to pieces, with only bits of flesh and bone remaining.
Something was wriggling on the bits of flesh remaining on the corpse, making a faint sound.
After standing there for a while, Adir started walking slowly toward the corpse.
Not long after, he arrived there and saw a disgusting scene.
The minced meat had numerous tiny pores, and green worms were wriggling inside, which looked quite disgusting.
"The target organism is highly toxic! Do not allow it to come into contact with its bodily fluids!"
The mechanical voice of the chip in his mind sounded, prompting him.
This is a pre-set program. Once something that could potentially threaten Adir appears, the chip will alert Adir to prevent him from accidentally touching it.
The face of the corpse in front of us was no longer visible; flesh and blood were stuck to the skull, making it look very gruesome. Only the long hair on the ground and some features of the remaining flesh and blood could barely make out the gender of the corpse.
Adir watched this scene quietly, his eyes devoid of sorrow or joy, and walked to the side.
He walked toward the building where there were many corpses, hoping to find something inside.
This world looks very strange. I wonder what it went through to become like this.
At this point, Adir hoped to find a survivor nearby to learn about the situation in this world.
Carefully entering the building, Adir looked around.
There were several corpses around, dressed in uniform, low-quality clothing. They appeared to be employees of the place.
Walking quietly forward, there were dozens of rooms, each with a sign hanging above it.
Carefully walking to a room on the side, Adir slowly reached his right hand to his waist, gripped the hilt of his sword, and then pushed the door open.
click!
With a soft click, the door opened.
The anticipated unexpected situation did not occur. The room was empty, without even a corpse, and looked very clean except for some dust.
Adir walked forward quietly, his light footsteps echoing slowly in the closed room.
squeak!
In a split second, a squeaking sound and the sound of a sword being drawn rang out simultaneously, and then a huge object flew out from behind Adir and crashed into the wall.
Before anyone knew it, Adir had already drawn his sword.
He turned around and looked at the object behind him that he had just knocked away.
It was a rat-like creature, about the size of a human head, with red rat-like eyes. At this moment, almost half of its body had been cut open, and its internal organs and intestines had all spilled out.
Even so, it was still alive and struggling there, and it seemed to have a lot of strength.
"Such strong vitality."
Seeing the life still struggling before him, Adir frowned and stepped forward without hesitation to deliver a final blow.
The creature in front of him was cut into several pieces before it stopped moving.
Just as Adir was about to leave, a mechanical voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
"An unknown force is acting on the subject, and the subject's physical fitness is improved."
He looked at his physical fitness and saw that it had indeed improved compared to before.
However, this improvement was very slight, and Adir would never have been able to detect it if the chip had not been constantly monitoring his physical condition.
"Could it be...?"
He frowned, looked down at the dead creature on the ground, and a guess formed in his mind.
After standing there for a while, he looked into the distance.
While the creature on the ground struggled, other life forms in the room were also awakened and were now rapidly approaching Adir.
The opponent was very fast, and in an instant it was in front of Adir, lunging hard from the wall next to him, its mouth full of fangs opened wide.
Adir didn't even move; he simply swung his sword down with his right hand, cleaving his opponent in two.
Considering the opponent's terrifying vitality, Adir stepped forward and delivered several more sword strikes, cutting the opponent into several pieces before finally finishing the job.
Once the other party had completely lost their life force, the familiar chip notification sounded in my mind once again.
"Just as I thought." Adir thought to himself, sensing the prompt in his mind.
For some unknown reason, the killing of life in this world would grant Adir a little unknown power, improving his physical abilities.
This improvement is so small that most people wouldn't even notice it. According to the chip's detection, to improve even 0.1 in physical attributes, one would probably need to kill thousands of these creatures, but it is a very real improvement.
With this in mind, Adir commanded the chip in his mind: "Chip, can you analyze the underlying principles?"
"Insufficient data, analysis not possible!" In an instant, the chip gave a negative answer.
Adir was not surprised by this answer.
While the analytical capabilities of chips are powerful, they are not omnipotent. To obtain sufficient results, a certain amount of data and information is still required; it cannot be done out of thin air.
