Chapter 1133 Helpless

Chapter 1133 Helpless (First Update)

He met Mbaku at a meeting when he was a child. Before that, he had never seen such a strong and tall person of his age, and from that moment on, he realized that Mbaku would become a powerful warrior. Years later, his guess was confirmed, but with a slight deviation from reality. The Jabari tribe's education system made the already strong and tall Mbaku even stronger, and by the time Mbaku inherited the position of tribal chief, he had already reached a height far exceeding that of ordinary people.

T'Challa couldn't imagine anyone in the world being able to defeat M'Baku in close combat, so when he saw M'Baku with his bruised and battered face, his astonishment was so great that he could have sat up in bed despite his injuries—of course, he ultimately didn't, not only because M'Baku held him down, but also because he simply didn't have the strength. Although the Jabari tribe provided him with some treatment, the broken bones wouldn't heal so easily.

"What happened? Is it my cousin...?"

"No, it's someone taller and stronger than me. He doesn't seem to have any bad intentions. If he used a weapon, I'd be dead. Ugh—" Mbaku spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, licking his slightly loose teeth with his tongue. His expression didn't worsen because of his injury; instead, it held a kind of joy at finding an opponent. "—Perhaps without weapons, Ghekre's (the white ape god worshipped by the Jabari tribe) fists... I've never seen anyone with such strength. I've already forbidden the tribe's warriors from challenging him, lest I anger him and lose several of my best fighters. By the way, that person came looking for you; I wonder where he got the information."

"What does that person look like?"

"Black hair, black eyes, dark skin, doesn't look like an idiot white man. Taller than me, wearing armor with a crimson cloak and a golden eagle on it." Hearing M'Baku's description, T'Challa finally smiled, his face pale. "He wants to speak with you alone, but I'm worried his friendliness is feigned, because he seems very intelligent." M'Baku added at the end, "Should I get a few warriors with you? If he wants to do something to you, even if those few warriors can't stop him, we still have more warriors and weapons than him. He's alone; we can kill him."

"No, Mbaku, please don't do that." T'Challa forced himself to sit up in bed despite the pain. "Let me sit up. That person is my friend."

"Friends?" Upon hearing this, Mbaku's anger flared. He angrily said, "A true friend would challenge your cousin after you fell from Warrior's Fall, not just walk away! Last night, not a single person except me challenged him!" He then began to berate the nobles of the river, mining, and merchant tribes he knew, who had all refused to challenge N'Jadakar because what should have been a ceremonial gladiatorial contest had turned into a tragedy, and those nobles had placed their lives far above loyalty.

“He’s a foreigner, Mbaku, and N’ Jadaka’s actions were perfectly legal.” T’Challa clutched his bandaged abdomen, which was covered in numerous wounds of varying sizes. He smiled and said, “He’s also a king; he has no right to represent Latvinia in a conflict with Wakanda. This is the price of the crown. Helping Shuri escape Wakanda is the best he could do. How is my mother?”

"Still no news. After being imprisoned in the palace, even the servants can't contact her."

"Don't worry, she's alright. Shuri is alright too, my warriors are protecting her," Emperor Latvinia said softly, his voice like a warm breeze melting the ice on a snow-capped mountain. This was the first time T'Challa had seen his friend since being thrown off Warriors Falls. But this time, when he looked at the emperor standing on the snow-covered viewing platform, he felt something different, as if a lightning bolt containing boundless power had been frozen in place on a towering mountain peak. It was an image that exploded in his mind in an instant; T'Challa felt he could sense the emperor's presence even with his eyes closed. He blinked, attributing it to the aftereffects of his fall and the drugs from the Jabari tribe.

"Yes, I'm not dead. Thank you for asking, if you really want to." He said quipped, shaking the unarmored hand extended by the Emperor of Latvinia. The warmth from that hand filled him with strength. "How is the Golden City? And the palace?"

"Your cousin has done a good job." Emperor Latvinia found a chair that looked sturdy enough and sat down.

He informed T'Challa of N'Jadaka's actions since his accession to the throne, as well as the deeds of former Queen Ramonda and her loyal war dogs, and members of Dora Milaje. N'Jadaka had gained extensive experience in Navy SEAL special operations, and the Emperor of Latvinia praised his emergency response measures and methods of maintaining order.

When T'Challa heard that the War Dogs had shut down the nuclear power plant and waterworks, instigated a rebellion in Golden City, and attempted to assassinate tribal nobles who supported N'Jadakha, or even N'Jadakha himself, the smile that had graced his face when he saw his friend vanished, as if the news had hurt him far more than the injuries he had sustained from being thrown off the cliff.

"What do you plan to do now?" the emperor asked. "You know you can't stay here forever. The news of your presence here can't be kept secret for long. As long as you exist, the Jabari tribe's position becomes more precarious."

“You’re still so realistic, my friend. But you’re always right. I plan to leave Wakanda. En Jadaka can become a proper Black Panther.” T’Challa shook his head. “Before that, I want to see him. I’ll voluntarily relinquish all power and then ask him to lift the imprisonment of Mother and allow Shuri to return to the research department. We shouldn’t destroy Wakanda for power struggles, even if Father were here, he wouldn’t allow it. I know what you’re trying to say… He’s already won, there’s no need to kill me again. I heard Latvinia is cracking down on the gangs, and Steve Rogers is there too. Do you need another ally?”

The Emperor laughed, but without making a sound. "Do you know we are about to face a war? Not against aliens, but against ourselves," he said. "When your father decided to open Wakanda, Wakanda would be subjected to the baptism of war. I tried to persuade En Jadaka not to open Wakanda, but he had his own ideas. I reminded you that modern warfare doesn't require direct attacks. The future Wakanda will inevitably face a life-or-death test, so I suggest you stay here and help Wakanda through this crisis. For Latvinia, there is no more important ally than Wakanda."

"This is for profit."

"Yes, but not for our personal interests. I need you to protect Wakanda's high-end manufacturing industry. This alliance is far more reliable than a fleeting friendship. You can't detect subjective changes in people's hearts, but you can certainly detect objective changes in things. This alliance of interests is like the royal family and the Jabari tribe, only more proactive—yes, I know why the Jabari tribe exists. A little thought will tell you that the opposition can only exist for a long time because of the support of the rulers, let alone infidels—this little trick won't fool me, nor will it fool En Jadaka for long. He will soon find out the role of the Jabari tribe from other people."

“To eliminate allies, yes.” T’Challa sighed. “Historically, the Jabari tribe has attacked many tribes several times under the guise of legitimate reasons. Without exception, the nobles of those tribes refused to obey Black Panther’s orders, and after that, records about those nobles and the Jabari tribe were destroyed. I just… don’t really like this approach.”

"Whether you like it or not, you will use it." Emperor Latvinia patted T'Challa's bandaged shoulder, then put his gauntlets back on, the mechanical mechanism clicking as they engaged. "My intelligence says Shuri knows you're here, and she wants to bring you something. The agents will cover her coming here, so you two had better come to an agreement as soon as possible."
