Chapter 1138 Rescue Mission
Chapter 1138 Rescue Mission (Second Update)
As the Fire Knights stormed into the Golden City and destroyed the air defenses with missiles, the new king, En Jadaka, who was holding a meeting with tribal nobles to discuss how to deal with the rebels of the previous royal family, received the news. Before the communication system was cut off, he could see the attackers' weapons and equipment clearly through the patrol drones that were spread throughout the city.
The Latvian emperor's sudden betrayal was surprising, but N'Jadaka knew the reason perfectly well: Princess Shuri, who had escaped Wakanda, must have promised some crucial benefits that he couldn't possibly offer. He couldn't think of any other reason why the Latvian emperor would abandon the treaty that was about to be signed. Having figured out the reason, N'Jadaka put aside his surprise and began to formulate a tactical plan to deal with the Latvians.
He first ordered his royal champion and the newly formed Dora Mirajane to control the tribal nobles who were meeting, and then coerced them to use the unblocked shortwave radio communication channel to issue orders to the nobles' private army. En Jadaka's first order was to have the nobles' private army lead a communications expert and a computer expert to retake the city's communications center, remove the computer virus implanted by the former members of the War Dogs organization, and restore communications.
Meanwhile, he ordered the newly formed Warhound organization to carry his handwritten orders and satellite phones to the airports on the outskirts and in the city center, handing them over to the Wakanda Air Force. He also ordered all Talon fighters to take off and engage the enemy. Another Warhound squad was tasked with infiltrating the nuclear power plant to restore power to Wakanda. This mission was so critical that they were permitted to kill anyone who tried to hinder them. After restoring power, this squad would rendezvous with a Dora Mirajane member to reactivate the electromagnetic shield protecting the city, preventing the Fire Knights who had not yet entered the city and their long-range artillery fire from entering.
While he was giving the order, the Fire Knights were busy controlling the main roads.
Before the arrival of the Fire Knights, the newly formed Warhound organization and the noble private army arrived at the target location in hovercars. As the only remaining armed force in the area, they easily completed their mission, capturing and killing former Warhound members who resisted. They also reported this news to the temporary command headquarters in the palace, which was formed by Dora Mirajane. These newly formed Dora Mirajane were the people En-Jadaka trusted most—unlike the fickle nobles, Dora Mirajane was the last line of defense for the king's safety. Entering this elite organization meant never betraying them. Even if they surrendered to Princess Shuri and the genetically modified warriors of Latveria, they would die after the war because of their oath to the new king. Therefore, En-Jadaka trusted Dora Mirajane far more than the nobles who had been held hostage.
"I need to connect to Emperor Latvian communications," he said to Dora Mirajane beside him.
A few minutes later, the satellite phone was connected and placed on En Jadaka's desk. He asked Dora Mirajane, his bodyguard, for some privacy. Security checks had ensured no assassins could infiltrate the palace, and he was certain he had completely shaken off the assassins sent by the Immortal City, the organization that conspired with Ulysses Klaue to steal vibranium from him. Picking up the phone, En Jadaka didn't question why the Latvinian Emperor would betray him so readily; that was irrelevant. What he wanted was to know Princess Shuri's offer—what price would it take for Latvinia to abandon that massive industrial contract and even sacrifice the lives of those genetically modified warriors?
En Jadaka had no idea how powerful the Fire Knights were in combat, or how sturdy their power armor was.
"An unbreakable alliance will be formed between Wakanda and Latvinia, a partnership far deeper than the contract," Hammurabi said. "This is not a simple offer, Mr. N. Jadaka. While our Lord has agreed that Wakanda will retain its autonomy, Wakanda must also submit to Latvinia's strategic plan in Africa. There is no better foothold on the African continent than Wakanda. We will liberate Africa from hunger and war, and unleash the productive forces of Africa, which will inevitably affect Wakanda's economy and the distribution of power."
"I want to speak to the Emperor of Latvia, not the Praetorian Guard."
"When my lord and the Regent are busy with their work, I and the rest of the Praetorian Guard represent the Emperor's will," Hammurabi said calmly. "My lord's wish is to unite humanity, and the means by which this is done are not important. While my lord admires your thoughts, you still cling to power—that's alright, it's not a criticism. You won't easily relinquish what you've fought so hard for, but my lord desires a wiser Princess Surrey, one who knows what to sacrifice for a greater good. For you, my lord has other plans, provided you can cast aside past wounds and embrace a greater cause. Doesn't this align with your father En-Job's expectations, En-Jadaka?"
En Jadaka, who had been calm, suddenly became angry. He couldn't accept that the Royal Guard described his suffering as something written on flimsy paper, as if it were just a scrape on his arm from a skateboarding fall that would disappear without a trace after a while. "Does your master truly have no selfish desires, Royal Guard?" he questioned. "Can you guarantee that your master won't use this cause to satisfy his own lust for power?"
Hammurabi laughed. "Mortals find it difficult to understand, which is normal, because your minds are too fragile to comprehend greatness, and your bodies too weak to keep your minds clear. Aging affects the brain, and a life of constant comfort will lead you into laziness. That is why Our Lord created us, the immortal Praetorian Guard, to protect this ideal."
Hammurabi's arrogance fueled En Jadaka's anger. He slammed down the phone in a rage, then took deep breaths to calm himself. He summoned Dora Mirajah, who was waiting outside, back into his office. "I need you to send enough men to take control of the noble residential area," he said. "Bring their offspring back, understand?"
"You mean, there are still many Wakandan nobles and their offspring inside the palace?" The adjutant gestured to the servants crouching against the wall, signaling them to remain silent. The Infernal Knights who had infiltrated the palace had already occupied the main passageways, pointing their guns at the palace corridors, now pitch black due to the power outage. "What do you intend to do, Commander?"
"Ignore them. Focus on rescuing former Queen Ramonda. We absolutely cannot allow them to use Ramonda as a bargaining chip." Malcolm ignored the pleas of the surrendered nobles. The command armored vehicle contained numerous screens for displaying visual intelligence, and even a holographic projector for displaying 3D models. The Fire Knights who had infiltrated the palace marked the rooms where the noble princes were imprisoned, and Malcolm could visually see on the holographic projection the distance between these locations and the Queen's room. "Several of our thermal imaging reconnaissance radars deployed inside the palace have been destroyed. The enemy may have already detected your infiltration. How's it going? How long will it take to reactivate?"
The Fire Knight, clad in specialized power armor, touched the data cable he'd pulled from his gauntlet and connected to the vibranium protective gate's control panel. "At least twenty minutes, and that's without interruption," the warrior said. "Marsian technical support can't open this gate quickly enough; the mission to rescue the former queen will take longer than expected."
The legion commander relayed this message to Princess Surrey, who was surrounded by former warhounds and anxious surrendering nobles.
"You said En Jadaka wants to have a gladiatorial contest, so I need you to stall for time during the negotiations, because all the access codes you gave us have expired, and the Infernal Knights who infiltrated the palace need time to rescue your mother," he said. "If possible, I need the assistance of your computer experts. I will grant you access to the Infernal Knights' communication channels so that you can transmit data with our warriors."
"The palace's firewall was built by the Golden Tribe two hundred years ago, and the database from that time is all stored in the palace's server room," Princess Surrey said. "We don't have the complete code now, only a few staff members who have performed firewall maintenance before."
"It's better than nothing. Get those men here, I need them." Malcolm sighed. "And your brother, tell him to stop wasting time, we're running low on ammunition and fuel."
