Chapter 151 A Trip Plan for Three People
Chapter 151 Three-Person Travel Plan (First Update!)
Salomon stood motionless, utterly helpless, for every attempt to explain, the witch only met his end with bullets. Bayonetta, dressed in her pajamas, produced a pistol from who-knows-where, and fired with a laugh. The bullet whizzed through the air and embedded itself in the wall behind Salomon. "Go find your female spy," she said. "After all, a philanderer is always the best, isn't it?"
"I assure you, Bayonetta, nothing really happened. It was just the teacher's twisted sense of humor," Salomon sighed again. Whenever he asked the Sorcerer Supreme what she had said to Bayonetta, the Sorcerer Supreme always changed the subject, so Salomon hurried back to the apartment to try and calm Bayonetta down. However, Bayonetta didn't need any comforting. She wasn't just a pretty face; she was a woman who would talk with bullets and high heels.
So Salomon had no choice but to give a rough account of what happened after he passed through the cave, and tried to call Nick Fury before the police arrived to have the neighbor's police report cleared; he didn't want to end up in the police station for something so trivial. Salomon didn't tell Nick Fury the truth of the matter, only telling him not to know too much. Then the sorcerer hung up the phone, put on a smile, and moved closer to Bayonetta.
At this moment, Bayonetta seemed to be using her Cheshire Cat as a channel for expressing her emotions. It was unclear what she and Salomon's pet were whispering about, but the cat was puffed up, its short gray fur becoming incredibly fluffy. The sorcerer tossed the "aggressive" pet aside and sat on the sofa, patiently comforting the witch sitting on the other side. In truth, Bayonetta wasn't angry because Salomon and Natasha were together; she was simply furious that Salomon hadn't included her in such a dangerous mission.
"You know, the mortality rate for single men on missions is twice that of married men. I read that in a magazine," Bayonetta said, seemingly casually. "It proves that teamwork is the best approach, but only if..."
"Wear the ring," Salomon agreed wholeheartedly. "To go on a mission with a woman who wears the same ring—I think that's the golden rule. Darling, may I ask which magazine you read those articles in?"
"Oh, fashion magazines from the 1950s and 60s. You know, I've been asleep for five hundred years and haven't had much time for entertainment."
"Did Joan of Arc also read those magazines?"
"Teaching new trends always takes time."
"Okay, dear Bayonetta, I think the most useful thing about fashion magazines is their outfit advice. As for relationship columns, you can ignore them because you have no idea which single men write those articles. They have no relationship experience themselves and just tell women to stay in the kitchen." Salomon spread his hands helplessly. "How about we take a trip to Europe sometime to relax? Since the number of angels decreased, you rarely go out. Staying cooped up at home every day isn't good. I think we could spend some poisonous mushroom juice to hire Scottish Isaacson [Note 1] to help us clean. They can also take care of the Cheshire cats, so we'll have time to go out and have fun. How about Norway? We can go see the Northern Lights together."
"Joan of Arc is coming with us too?" Bayonetta squinted.
"Uh... if you don't mind."
"Of course I don't mind, little one." The witch pulled out her pistol. "How could I possibly mind?"
The travel plans were temporarily put on hold because Joan of Arc, upon returning to the apartment, also fired a bullet at Salomon, having caused Bayonita unnecessary worry. Joan planned to resign the next day and take Bayonita on a trip around Northern Europe; as for transportation, Salomon's teleportation portal would be the only option. Joan said she would remind Salomon to meet them at lunch and dinner, and then she kicked the sorcerer out of the apartment, telling him to come back the next day.
As it turned out, with two women together, there was nothing left for the men to do. Salomon shrugged and returned to Kamar-Taj.
He still has to go to school.
--------------
"Aren't you busy enough with real-world matters, Nick Fury?" Salomon sat in the director's office, his legs casually propped up on the desk. "Isn't that green behemoth far more interesting than what happened three hundred years ago?"
"You think S.H.I.E.L.D. only has this kind of work?" Nick Fury was a little angry at Salomon's disdain. "We have tens of thousands of agents. The disappearance of a few agents is not enough to take up all our workload. I called you here to settle the matter before you disappeared."
"The Merlin School?" Salomon suddenly realized. He had almost forgotten about Balthazar and Dave, and no one in Kamar-Taj had mentioned them. The arcane mage wasn't sure if his decreased sanity had caused him to forget about the Merlin School, but he didn't mind hearing what Nick Fury had to say.
The Merlin School? Upon hearing this new term, Nick Fury remained impassive, quietly memorizing it. "I don't know what those dark wizards you're talking about actually did, and I can't blame all the accidents in New York City those past few days on dark wizards," he said. "You need to help me with the filings; I need to know which innocent people were killed by dark wizards."
"Isn't this something that can be solved with a phone call? Was it really necessary to call in sick for me and then pick me up from school?" The sorcerer sniffed; the biting Himalayan winds of the previous night had made him quite uncomfortable. If he hadn't been sleeping with Phoenix's warm, large bird, the sudden change of seasons over three hundred years might have given him a cold. "They don't want to talk to me," Salomon said, somewhat disgruntled. "Couldn't they have asked Coulson to come to me? I quite like him."
"He and Agent Romanov carried out a mission that only I know about, and afterwards they both suffered varying degrees of mental instability." Nick Fury's one eye was fixed on the sorcerer. "I want to know the details of the mission."
"That's your real purpose, isn't it, One-Eyed Man?" Salomon said. "No, your purpose is... you want to evaluate me, you want to know if I've developed any mental instability."
Nick Fury fell silent, staring intently at Salomon, for the sorcerer's words were indeed his objective. Salomon's danger far exceeded Nick Fury's expectations; both agents had suffered varying degrees of sanity loss after working with Salomon, and as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., realizing this, he too had to be responsible for the safety of others.
"Coulson and Natasha are fine; they just need a few days of rest. As for the investigation S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to conduct, it will only worsen their mental state." Salomon suddenly realized something. "You wouldn't... you wouldn't be planning to have them reveal my information to others, would you?"
“If I know the details of the mission, their investigation can be halted.” Nick Fury blinked. “The bodies of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who went with them were all mutilated, but the cause of death was shock. The last one is still missing. I need to know where my agent is, I need to know if I can find him, whether he is alive or dead.”
"I don't know where the other agents are, but regarding the details of this mission... no." The arcane mage refused. "I don't know what Coulson and Natasha told you, but I can only tell you that it's related to an extradimensional invasion. The consequences of worshipping evil gods are never good. I've already spoken to Agent Coulson, and he certainly told you, though I know you won't believe it."
“But,” Salomon put his feet down, leaned forward, and stared intently into Nick Fury’s single eye, “this event is beyond human comprehension. If anyone recklessly summons an evil god, I will kill all those involved—and we are already doing that.”
The sorcerer was referring to a recent operation at Kamar-Taj—the hunt for an East African cult called the "Cult of the Blood Tongue." Previously, Kamar-Taj had only considered it a cult with a smattering of magic, worshipping a fabricated, inexplicable evil god. However, after Salomon acquired some knowledge from Randolph Carter, Kamar-Taj learned that the evil god worshipped by this cult was real. Following this, Kasirius and Mordo led a large group of sorcerers to hunt down the cult. In addition, sorcerers from the New York Temple had traveled to Canada to hunt down a cult called the "Wisdom of the Stars."
These cults are all worshippers of Nyarlathotep; Salomon has not yet discovered any other cults that worship other Outer Gods. In addition, Kamar-Taj is also hunting down other cults, such as those that worship Nightmare or the god of dark magic, Sithon, so progress is not very fast at the moment.
Salomon fulfilled his duty well, intending to eradicate all Outer God cults on Earth and burn all magical books capable of summoning evil gods. The Sorcerer Supreme and Salomon meticulously examined the books he brought back, removing all magical content. The Sorcerer Supreme then placed the books on the shelves of Kamar-Taj and magically sealed them away. Anyone wishing to access these books must obtain the Sorcerer Supreme's permission and read them under his supervision—this knowledge is even more dangerous than Dormammu and the Dark Dimension. Currently, few besides the Sorcerer Supreme and Salomon know the contents of these books.
"Alright." Nick Fury didn't insist too much, and seemed to accept Salomon's offer. "Then at least file it for me. I hope you've caught that damned dark wizard."
"I hope so too."
